Any retard with half a brain can spray paint the tip black again. I doubt that's the whole reason they did it.
[editline]03:46PM[/editline]
The whole Idea is really stupid, imo. Anyone could spray paint the tips of their guns orange, walk straight into a crowd and massacre everyone, with no one expecting a thing because of the orange tips.
given they don't enforce the international shipping standards of toys, that isn't the reason.
except they aren't seizing them because they can be turned to weapons, they're seizing them because they don't have the orange tip on the barrel.
Learn to bloody read.
I'm jealous. At least they let you have airsoft guns there.
Fucking New York. Airsoft guns aren't allowed because of the super strict gun laws, but somehow every criminal manages to get their hands on a gun anyway.
well it is new york.
Fuck the BATF.
You could probably build a lethal airsoft gun with a 4 HP electric motor and some copper piping. I think the ATF should confiscate copper piping and electric motors from auto parts stores.
Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms.
I don't see toys in there, do you? And man, I would REALLY love to see them try and turn an airsoft gun into a functional firearm.
"See, we gutted the whole thing, replaced both the upper and lower receivers, the trigger mech, the buffer tube and the barrel. This is now a deadly machine gun!"
:downsbravo:
Depends on if it's a firearm replica or not, which I think a lot of Airsoft stuff is classified as.
Still not Illegal
Actually that's more of state legislature. It isn't illegal on a federal level.
Dammit, Lankist, I was just about to post that they shouldn't be regulating toys.
GIVE ME YOUR SMARTS.
Anyone figured they wanted the guns for themselves, and for their combat simulations?
So my airsoft guys did some digging and fount like 5 phone numbers that are related to the BATF and shit. Someone actually called and complained that it was a waste of time and resources, and that the family had to pay for that out of their own pocket.
What a hell of a store, and a little over an hour away. I'm going to have to go take a look.
As long as the ATF doesn't put them out of business first.
How to convert an airsoft gun into a machine gun.
1) Take your airsoft gun
2) Unscrew the main panel above the bb intake.
3) Buy a fully functional gun
4) duct tape the panel to the gun.
Anyone figured they wanted the guns for themselves, and for their combat simulations?
No, they took them because being an ATF agent was boring as fuck so they wanted to go airsofting in the forest.
except they aren't seizing them because they can be turned to weapons, they're seizing them because they don't have the orange tip on the barrel.
Not all states require the orange tip, and, the orange tip must be applied to sell them in those states that do require them. Let's say someone in America wants to buy a foreign car that does not meet american safety regulations, but plans to make it meet them and sell the vehicle. That's not illegal, and has been done many many times before without being seized. If they buy the airsoft guns and then apply the orange tips before sale, that's completely legal. They just have to be sold with the orange tip, not imported with it.
stupid ATF.
That's retarded. Like, seriously. I can't even be angry at this. It's just so stupid that I'm not sure exactly how to react to it. I think it should go without saying that converting an airsoft gun to a "military grade weapon" is impossible.

without the orange tip, they could be used as fake weapons for crimes, or some innocent airsoft user could get hurt by someone thinking that it's a real gun; both scenarios have happened numerous times before.
the article is misleading
The orange tip which is only illegal to paint over in the state of California. Everywhere else there is no law preventing the end user from legally painting over the orange tip. Which is how it should be.

Not true. Federal law requires the orange tip before it can even be sent to the United States.

State laws govern if you can legally REMOVE the tip as the end consumer, but they MUST have it at the time of creation or arrival in the country AND at the time they are sold.
Note that it is federal law, which is why the ATF, being a federal agency, was the agency responsible. It does seem silly though. At least give them the option to manufacture the orange tips or return them to taiwan for a refund or whatever.

I had a friend get in a lot of trouble for painting over the tip up here in Minnesota a while back.
I believe the news media is saying they can be converted to machine guns where the ATF is just siezing cause they are missing orange tips.

ATF still doesn't enforce shipping standards of normal consumer products under the assumption that it can be converted into a firearm.
So America are allowed guns, but their toy guns need orange at the barrel's end? lol.
Well do the math, we're allowed to have real guns and fake guns. If they all look the same, everyone would be shooting each other. Some with BB's and some with live rounds.
ATF still doesn't enforce shipping standards of normal consumer products under the assumption that it can be converted into a firearm.
It says in the article that the ATF was brought in later to cover up somebody else's bumblefuck.
I'm presuming they can do whatever the fuck they feel like after another agency calls them in, hence the bullshit excuse that they can be converted to functional firearms.

Local laws may differ or perhaps Minnesota has a state law. It has been a few years since I last looked it up.

Actually that's where bureaucracy is supposed to play its very vital role.
Actually that's where bureaucracy is supposed to play its very vital role.
Right, but as I believe you pointed out earlier, the ATF is basically a lawless clusterfuck.

Article is just using all the facts about the story. Obviously if they had just seized the shipment due to lack of tips it would be old news. But because the ATF stated that as part of the reason and even gave a statement about it is what makes it interesting.
Now about the orange tips, the fact that they prevent them being used as weapons for crimes is irrelevant. Any idiot with a can of spray paint can remove that. Most of the people involved in such crimes did not buy the weapons without tips.
Just to add in my final blow to your argument, a century is 100 years. Airsoft guns have not been around for centuries. You annoy me.
Wow, UK Airsoft laws are pretty bad right now, but at least they're not as bad as the US'. I feel sorry for you guys.

Uh, no. The UK's gun and airsoft laws are far worse than the US. The ATF is just another shitty government organization.

Yeah, in Yankland. I've never even seen an orange tip on an airsoft gun here.
