I am not from the uk but I just hope those who truly deserved the benefit is not affected by it
I don't like how Osborne cut this benefit and now Cameron plans to spend a fuckton to upgrade our nuclear deterrent gj dickheads glad you've got your priorities straight
I get that much every month too but I do almost nothing with it, I feel so guilty spending what was other peoples tax money for some reason, I just don't even feel as though I've earned it even though I am truly entitled to it
I didn't mean to rate you dumb...sorry
Is getting onto the UK dole just as easy as hopping on the disability pension in Australia? I swear most of the people on it say they have a cramp in their leg and the government just gives them a fuckload of money to buy on cigarettes
and any sort of reforms that the government tries to put in place causes every housing commision in the country to go cronulla riots style
With the job center you have to prove that you've applied to at least 14 jobs every 2 weeks or they kick you off.
Well, that explains Roger Mahony's efforts to hide pedophiles, he was doing his best to make sure people judge the Church correctly.
/quoting Catholic leaders as a moral high ground=not good idea
None of that makes what he said any less right.
With the job center you have to prove that you've applied to at least 14 jobs every 2 weeks or they kick you off.
14? when I was on it (in 2010) it was 3 jobs a week...
Yeah, like you can just go out and get a job when you've been on disability for years.
I have problems with the liberal parties in the US and UK, sure, but generally speaking they're pretty good about not voting to intentionally inflict pain and hardship on the people least able to cope with it. Conservatives LOVE to do exactly that.
i know people on disability who aren't disabled at all
Why do you need benefits for dyslexia?
Well dyslexia does not get in the way that much now but if you look back at my posts from 2009 to now you will a massive change in ability to spell.
I only started to get this money a couple of months ago as it was something I did not know I could get.
I found that as long as you are in a special needs school you can have the money. Does not matter what your needs are you can have money but depending on how bad your needs are depends on how much you get. I am getting the lowest amount as this is not exactly the most severe problem out there. (you need a statement to go to a special needs school so not anyone can just go and start claiming. I have been there for nearly 7 years.)
The money is supposed to stop once I leave the school but I was told it may be possible to keep getting it while I am in college and it stops when I leave there. But who knows know.
So to really answer your question I don't need it but it is hard to find a job right now so the money really does help pay for things.

Another interesting thing is that I get a free bus pass to ride any bus in the UK for free after 9am. It does not expire until 2016. I use it to get to the gym every Wednesday.
i know people on disability who aren't disabled at all
I've seen a guy in wheelchair in tears because he just soiled himself in the jobcentre having to explain why he's not working.
Exactly. My friend gets £500 a month for having aspergers and depression. He spends it all on weed and video games.
Sounds like nobody is bothering to actually treat the depression

Money brings happiness.
Money brings happiness.
No it doesn't
No it doesn't
Okay, Money can lead to happiness.
Sounds like nobody is bothering to actually treat the depression
He never said what treatment he's getting.
But if he's too mentally ill to provide for himself currently, then the government is obligated to help him.
This is a good thing. There's a worrying amount of people that claim disability benefits for absolutely no reason. "I've got a bad back." Get a job that doesn't involve any manual labour then. There are people that abuse this and get everything paid for. They get council housing, and even get given a car by the government, when 9 times out of 10 they're perfectly able to work.
Yeah, with a bad job market and people getting lazier, more people than ever are trying to work the system.
I should know. Half the people in my family do this over total bullshit "back pain" type stuff and it's disgusting that they're treated the same way as people who are truly disabled.

What's the mental health system like in the UK
Is he able to actually get a psychiatrist or counsellor to talk to on a regular schedule

Yes, but how is he going to feed himself if he can't work?
Sounds like nobody is bothering to actually treat the depression
They aren't.

Actually he can't. He would need to travel to Glasgow (2 hours away).

I just sent my form off today for Bipolar Disorder. They rejected me the first time, so having coming out of mental hospital, I'm appealing. Sigh, it's such a ballache
I'll have to admit, that before working in law I had a full and wide understand for these people. After starting to work in it I've gotten a lot more skeptical about a lot of cases.
Generally speaking the system is sort of broken and I've seen people on stage 1 disability who are clearly stage 3 and people in stage 2 who barely have any issues at all.
The whole system seems really broken and requires a fairly important audit imho.
You guys are acting like this is entirely to be evil and stop that money from going to those who are blind, crippled, etc.
From the same article:
The impression I'm getting is that some people are trying to collected disability over very minor thing which doesn't affect their work. Tell me if I'm wrong though.
If you allow people to game the system, then it's your fault for it not working right. It sounds like that's whats been happening which is sad because now people who are really disabled and in need could be the ones to pay for it.
Now the scary part is...my back is also fucked, it's a genetic flaw that everyone on my mother's side has had for generations. I was told by my GP with the coldest of tones that my back is going to be 10 times worse than hers (when I'm her age) due to the nature of my injuries. I can stand for maybe 30-40 seconds before it becomes unbearable and I have to sit, so that cuts out a ton of work for me until I either risk an operation to fix it or get prescribed enough medication to mask it.
I've been this way for 7 years now with no signs of it getting better, should I get some form of assistance from the government? Because I sure as hell hope I do after the way my doctor was talking to me less than 6 months ago.
However let it be known that I can use a PC and would take up an office job in a heartbeat...however it's not landing the job that's the issue, it's getting myself out there and into the world to find one, not being able to casually stand about or walk anywhere really fucking pisses all over my chips every waking hour of every day...so I stay inside, where I'm not aching and grimacing in pain all the time.
This is where the assistance comes in, because I'm technically not disabled enough to receive any benefits until it becomes worse, to the point of no return kind of worse. I'm still fighting the problem (not giving up yet), doing what I can to try and naturally relieve the pressure on the nerve that's being crushed without high doses of medication...but not giving in is just hurting my family, because I don't get any financial assistance for actively trying to avoid it slipping into a full blown disability.
I would try to find a job you can do from home like writing articles for a site or being a private accountant. These are pretty specific jobs but just examples of the kind of thing you might be able to find.
My mum has a problem with her hip/left leg where fragments of bone from when she broke it as a child have moved into the ball joint so any movement at all causes extreme pain from these bits of bone grinding on the inside of the joint. I don't actually know if she's elegible for any benefits, she has never tried to get any but she used to be a speech therapist. She had to quit that job because of getting to work and back so now she is working part-time selling holidays to people which is ideal for her because she doesn't have to go and physically visit anyone she can just talk to them on the phone.

I'm sorry but writing articles for a site will not pay any bills. Do you have any idea how little money writing earns - if any at all?
And as for a private accountant, again that is at the edge of fantasy.

hey it's better than nothing.

Have you found out why your back is fucked and searched for/ attempted any alternative relief/ exercises/ therapy for this?
Obesity and lack of exercise can make back pain worse, spinal manipulation & massage therapy are proven to be successful.
Yoga and acupuncture are also proven to be successful, as is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - as back pain is also found to be psychosomatic (in which physical symptoms are thought to be the direct result of psychological or emotional factors) at the least.
hey it's better than nothing.
So is dealing meth.
But saying "oh you could just write" is laughable. It doesn't pay, even for those who are actually good at it.

I don't think I'd be too happy without money. I'd have no house, no car and I'd live on the street.

That's really stupid and they should do something about that
