That is the most beautiful horrifying thing I have ever seen.
I have the strangest feeling that some of the photos were edited to censor the gruesome parts.
They probably haven't released the gruesome parts yet. But I don't see how it could be edited, dust and ash flying about.
Holy shit. That was all blasted up in like a split second and it was all caught on footage. Poor last guy.
this is so surreal, the picture of the tank shell hitting almost looks like a painting.
journalists are pretty much the bravest people out there, not to mention the syrian opposition fighters
Last guy was lucky as fuck, couple more meters and he would be toast.
I'll never get used to hearing stories like this. I know people die every day, but... damn.
violence and war are fruitless endeavors; they shouldn't happen in the first place.
it's sickening that we kill each other
I don't understand this post. Are you new to humanity? I'll agree that war is terrible, but I definitely wouldn't say that it is fruitless. War gets shit done.
well war correspondents get shot at all the time, that's sort of their job.

"gets shit done" is such a brainless statement
war for these people in Syria was a last-resort, they wouldn't have had to go to war if it wasn't for the war-worshiping fascists that run their government.

If there was no war the US would not be a country.

seems like a pretty good trade off

There are right ways and wrong ways to do things you know, it's not just about getting things done.
Seeing them all in 'order' made that last picture all the more potent.
If there was no war the US would not be a country.
Is that supposed to be a bad thing?

this one really gets me. just looking at how he's carrying himself, i can hardly fathom, let alone comprehend what he must be feeling
If there was no war the US would not be a country.
i'm sorry but do you have an hard-on for conflicts and violence in general?
If there was no war the US would not be a country.
Tell that to canada.
Jesus christ... Three of his friends, minutes previously they were laughing, are now gone, and he sits alone. That guy is probably gonna have survivors guilt like crazy
According to the photographer the video will be up next week.
Those are not stills from a video, or they don't seem like they are. It's so well captured and not blurry or anything.
Got really lucky, the guy who lived and the amazing camera shot.

Good, maybe then we could get QI on TV.

well for one thing I wasn't referring to what's going on in syria, I was making a general statement about war
and also, so what? what part of that invalidates what I said?

This chokes me up :'(

I'm not DEFENDING war, or even justifying it. I think it's an awful practice, but it definitely accomplishes goals
and when it DOES come to war, yeah, it's pretty much only about accomplishing things. nobody to my knowledge ever declared war for fun

Have a competition.
Name 10 wars where nothing was accomplished.
Name 10 wars where it 'got shit done'.
Lets see who does it first.

it depends how you define 'accomplished', but it's irrelevant, because I don't think I could even name twenty wars let alone know the details of them
I find the differences between these two photos absolutely incredible. The first looks like soldiers preparing to battle, and in an instant, while they're still in the same positions, their lives are about to end.
