And you have a snowball effect because people care about ratings and will do anything to avoid the bad ones.
quite proud of my giant pile of boxes i am
They're probably happy that they're getting free alpha testing
Is EA even gonna bother searching for the leaker like when valve found who leaked HL2 beta?
It's legal to download pirated stuff, but not to upload in Canada.
Gonna buy the full game instead
The second it's available on Steam, I'm buying it.
No, they're all spineless kids who's opinions change every single day for absolutely no reason.
Changing your opinion doesn't mean you're spineless. Standing up for something with no reason, or without considering changing view points is short sighted.
Ugh.
It's sad how people bitch about PC always getting treated like shit so they pirate the games to show they don't support the company. Crytek, one of the few companies who support PC gaming gets backstabbed by some idiots who leak their game. It's like putting all your effort into a project only to have it fail in the end.

You all realize the 360 version leaked too? Right? Less publicized, but still getting tons of downloads.
And I hope most pirates buy this game as I've seen a number of them say.
and don't blame the person that leaked? Ok
damn crackers?
I'm just going to laugh when it sells more than most PC games out of pure respect for Crytek. Also the beta does not do the final product justice at all whatsoever, it's really buggy, lots of missing textures and such. It's the same deal as the Half Life 2 leak back in 2003. People are going to buy it because the leak isn't exactly an amazing representation of the final product, hell the game hasn't even gone gold yet.
I really hope not many people pirate it, it will just lead to getting less pc support and more drm, then i bet other companies will follow and soon we would all wish we didnt pirate

I want to agree with you, but it feels like I am bandwagonning against bandwagonning :v:
What generally annoys me more is that there are assholes who are willing to pull this shit to the point that they put not only their job but the company they work for at risk because they want to hype the gaming community.
You spend years in college, followed by tens of thousands of clocked hours in experience just to get this job and then you risk it all by leaking the project you and your co-workers worked so hard on.

I highly doubt pirates managed to somehow steal an unfinished build of their game.
EA are idiots worrying about people playing an unfinished build. Just consider it a demo and move on. Let's be honest, no one is going to not buy the game because the unfinished build turned them off, they weren't going to pay for it anyways.

the build has most of the game in it
it's not a demo

I have always wondered about this, for someone to do this they must have really been pissed off by the company they work for. I mean if you leak something like this and are found out no one in the game development industry is going to touch you no matter how great of a developer / tester / etc you are.
A lot of people are whining about how apparently people's opinions change all of a sudden. It's not that they change it's more of a double standard.
If I see someone pirating MW2 on PC, you couldn't pay me to give a fuck. Infinity Ward doesn't care about PC so their PC sales should reflect that.
Now I see Crysis 2 being pirated. Crytech is one of the few developers still actively supporting the PC. I want them to sell well on PC so it can stay that way.
What is with this whole anti pirate movement all of a sudden. A few months ago if you would have said pirating is bad, you would have been ridiculed. Facepunch is weird.
Facepunch is full of hypocrites you know

Nobody's going to risk their job unless it's worth it. Maybe someone was careless with a disk or password, or maybe someone got paid some money?
Typical, they put the blame on "PC piracy" and not on the careless individual who allowed the game to be leaked in the first place.
See, this is why we can't have nice things.
Damn pirates.
This is why we can't have Death Stars.
Damn rebels utilizing leaked plans.

Because most change opinions depending on what they feel like.
I've always been against piracy, unless you can not get the game otherwise (no not having the money is not a good excuse, get a job). For example old games that you can not find anywhere anymore is perfectly fine to pirate.

Quite accurate actually.
Let's Buy Crysis 2
It's going to get pirated on release, just like any other game. The only difference being this game is way more hyped than most, Two Worlds 2 was leaked about the same time before, 2 months or so.
Wanna download this yet it'll take about 3 months thanks to some fucking virus on my computer. I'm gonna end up buying it, installing it, playing for an hour at 5fps then uninstalling it :(
"Gut wrenching?"
For who lol, I bet the rest of the gaming community weren't as heartbroke as EA :v:
I wish I could buy this.
But first I have to buy new hardware. :frown:
