Yeah, Piracy isn't theft.
:smug:
it's denying a potential sale, isn't that right ol' chum?.
oh but you would never say anything like that, that would make it a not crime thus rendering your friends argument moot.

It's still hypothetical stealing.
You know that is actually a pretty good way to word that thing you didn't say.
we should edit that "piracy isn't theft" image to include "It's just denying a potential sale."

of imaginary money with an item that didn't exist before you 'stole' it.

See, piracy is all quantum mechanics.
you see, without someone yelling "PIRACY IS THEFT, YOUR A CRIMINAL" all day we can actually have a deep and thought provoking discussion.

Piracy causes as much damage as just not buying it
Theft takes away something, actually causing a loss in profit. How the hell can you not get this?
This is nice.
oh damn it, auto merge.
Piracy causes as much damage as just not buying it

because people would have you think that denying a potential sale and thus denying the potential profit from that sale (that may or may not have happened in the first place) is just as bad as doing it for real and stealing something that actually cost money to produce and denying any profit from a future sale of that item from getting to the people who deserve it thus constituting a tangible loss in profit for the company not a hypothetical one.
the latter is stealing, the former is not.
If EA decides not be assholes to us non-pirates because of this debacle and refrain from adding the requirement of persistent internet connection to play Crysis 2 SP I might buy this game after all to support CryTek :ohdear: .

Hypothetical stealing? You lost the argument right there.

This wasn't leaked because of pirates though.

They fucked up, and we just downloaded it.
hell it doesn't even fit with the discussion because this is the unfinished product and is not what was going to be sold to us anyway.
so this build has no value.

It's apparently the full game.
It's apparently the full game.
Except extremely buggy, not working for some people, and missing some textures and sounds.
Strange I wonder what hurts a game more. Buying a used game (which gives no money to the creators) or pirating. I mean while people say pirating is destroying gamming buying a used game happens a lot more. also you cant really get a used game for the pc so I dont understand why people say pirating is killing pc gamming.
It's apparently the full game.
Full game in terms of story maybe, from the screenshots I have seen there is clearly work to be done still.
It's apparently the full game.
no it's not, the multiplayer components aren't there, a fuck ton of textures and sounds are missing and it's buggy as fuck. this isn't what they were going to sell us, it's a test to see if all the various parts fit together and worked properly at the time, and if they all didn't, to see what needed to be fixed.
Ie this isn't what they put a monetary value on so it has no value.

Buying a used copy is essentially worse because someone makes money off it and none of that money goes to the publisher or developer and it's free of moral or legal ambiguity.
so it's completely negative because they don't get any of the extra (real) profits that the particular unit makes.
People stating that piracy isn't theft, are right, the US supreme court has even stated this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dowling_v._United_States_%281985%29 (Bootlegging and internet piracy falls under the same category legally)
It is however textbook copyright infringement. That is however illegal. Stop trying to justify it and just admit that whatever you are doing is illegal.
I will support them by buying the game. They are one of the last few good developers that are pushing the PC to it's limits.

No one has really tried to justify it. Personally I just wanted Winslow to understand that it is not theft.
What is with this whole anti pirate movement all of a sudden. A few months ago if you would have said pirating is bad, you would have been ridiculed. Facepunch is weird.
:bandwagon:
It's bad enough that it's called theft, it's even worse that it's called theft before the game is even released and physical copies can even be bought
To me Piracy is just a fact, the way digital information works. It's going to happen and there's nothing anyone can do about it except deal with it... If it was really as bad as everyone made it out to be, Gaming would be dead, not thriving and being one of the few industries to actually see gains during the recession
Hell it can even potentially be used as a huge marketing tool, but everyone's so anal and worried about it they never thought of it like that
this doesn't cut it because why are you going after the people who download it and not the people who made the unauthorized copies in the first place?.
so if I unknowingly purchase an unauthorized copy or obtain a copy of something it's all of sudden my fault?.
Crytek has been alerted that an early incomplete, unfinished build of Crysis 2 has appeared on Torrent sites.
How fucking "early" and "incomplete" can it possibly be- only 49 days away from release? Seriously.
Well in the big thread about it they said the build was from early Jan
How fucking "early" and "incomplete" can it possibly be- only 49 days away from release? Seriously.
Um, because he released an incomplete build?

off of the last modified date on the exe, which not the date of the creation of the original but the date the copy was made.
this thing is months old.
Yeah that makes sense, because from the videos and screenshots you can tell there's much more work needed than 30 days allows

ITT someone who does not understand the law, the dictionary or what people are saying in this thread.

Well, it's certainly not going to be what Crytek releases.
Also I like how you assume I'm a pirate because I can tell the difference between piracy and theft.
