education is not a commodity.
Shouldn't education be free?
Need to pay the teachers, get the materials for sciences and sports, building places where they can teach, etc. Some prices are ridiculous though.
Sweden just introduced fees for foreign students. Taking a 3 year Astronomy programme (as an example) will cost outside students £41247, which is 420000 SEK. It's free for Swedes though (hehe)
How shit should be done.
hey guys guys remember you can get a student loan! you only have to pay back over 200% of it for the next 30 years! i dont no what your bitchin about!!!! :downs:
That shits horrible. Over here in NZ its around 2k per semester. Hopefully UK will sort this shit out.
Unfortunately politicians never give back what they take. A completely different party who are completely against it could get into power at the next election and the fees wouldn't go back down.
education is not a commodity.
it is now
Taking a 3 year Astronomy programme (as an example) will cost outside students £41247
That's $64,000CAD Combine that with travel costs and Sweden is now not even remotely an option for foreign students to study in without going through an exchange program. gj sweden
Looks like i'd better get to leaning Finnish to a fluent level pretty damn quick, since going to the UK simply to be able to study in English is becoming less and less feasible :/
Wiggles, am I right in saying that if I start a 3 year course this September, I will pay the same normal fees set now for each year, or will I have to pay the normal fees for this year, and then mega fees for the next two? I find it a little confusing.

Lets make University largely unaffordable to the majority of people, making it so we have a lack of important degrees or just make it so they'll be paying off the debt for the rest of their lives, because thats a good idea, right? [editline]29th March 2011[/editline]
Personally, I believe that anyone who voted Lib Dem at the time was a fool. Their claim that they'd abolish top up fees was obviously rubbish, where was the money going to come from? Also confused as to why people are so surprised this happened, the Lib Dems are small part of a coalition. Given that they got their referendum on AV it was unlikely they'd be able to block anything else.
The goverment doesn't serve the people, it serves itself. And I have no faith in any of the politcal parties, so I don't see the point in me voting.
I'm going to go to uni regardless of this, but it's a major stab in the back by Dick Clegg.
God damn I'm so glad I live in Norway now. All universities are free, and we even get paid so we can rent a place to live and support ourselves. Whether or not you go to university should have nothing to do with how rich your parents are.

Is it enough to live on your own without working or is it recommended you find a roommate/work part time as well?
Oh dear http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-12880840
They fucking said that wouldn't happen! they said the 7K mark would be where most of them are! They had an excuse for the rise in the first place "oh we must all make sacrifices in coalition" and "the deficit is worse than we thought" but they have nothing behind this. They're either ignorant fucks who have no idea how the universities they're playing with work or have no problem with lying through their teeth with no regard as to what to do when they're proven wrong.
Translated: "I don't mind breaking promises and getting politically butt fucked as long as I have some sort of power."
He reminds me of Gollum in a way.
If you hate tuition fees then don't fucking vote conservative I hate britain when it comes to voting sometimes
Clearly you need to read up on what you hate, because you apparently have no grasp of the situation. a. The Conservatives aren't in power - it's a Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition. b. The Liberal Democrats (read: Nick Clegg) promised that tuition fees wouldn't go up. Then when he was in power he increased them. So the whole "If you hate tuition fees then don't fucking vote conservative" is bullshit, because a large number of people voted in the Liberal Democrats and expected them to uphold their promise - which they didn't. It's not about people voting Conservative - it's about the Liberal Democrats screwing people over.
Oh dear http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-12880840
So about those "few" Universities planning to charge the full 9k...

Which makes him either stupid, a liar, or both.
