Oh I didn't know you were exempt from the laws of gravity.
ever heard of relativity you should check it out sometime
And this is where our arguments should be not whether a country should be setup on the basis of morality. But rather what that morality is.
that's dodging the question. that's the test my teacher showed me when it comes to objectivism. is it more moral to die an individual, not fulfilling their potential as is required in objectivism, or is it more moral to live as a nonindividual, also not fulfilling their potential? that's the very premise on which i disagree with objectivism
Oh I didn't know you were exempt from the laws of gravity.
No, but the laws of gravity can very well be fake. I could be a brain in a vat experiencing false reality right now and you can't show different no matter how hard you try.
Oh I didn't know you were exempt from the laws of gravity.
Objectivism is theory and philosophy not gravity. I skipped a few pages, but I really missed the seam where this turned from an argument about practical government into an argument about philosophy.
The only truth, as Decartes puts it, is the "truth that I can doubt myself".
Demonstrate to me something true beyond a shadow of a doubt that I can't simply throw the brain in the vat argument at you with.
Philosophy begins with consciousness. The matrix or allegory of the cave is nothing more than a what if ... you can't use it to support or critique anything If such is true we are all fucked but that's about it. HEY STRIDER, HERE'S ONE FOR YOU So you have Newton, and he comes up with Newtonian physics. Great system. Works fine. Quite a while later, Einstein comes along and disproves Newtonian mechanics and comes up with Relativity. So, if all things are objective, and we're all able to figure out absolute truth on our own regardless of circumstances, why did Newton get it wrong? The answer to that question is why objectivism is bullshit.
Philosophy begins with consciousness. The matrix or allegory of the cave is nothing more than a what if ... you can't use it to support or critique anything If such is true we are all fucked but that's about it. [editline]8th March 2011[/editline] I think therefore I am.
Holy crap how can you abuse a descartes quote like that...
Which problems? And you want all the benefits of a free market without any of its causes.
There are benefits of a free market?
I think therefore I am.
Define "am". Define "think".
I think therefore I am.
that means there is a truth, that doesn't mean there's a singular moral truth
If you held the view that nothing is objective that there isn't truth to be discovered we would be stuck with the concept that the earth is flat. Objective truth exists we continually make progress towards its realization.
Define "am". Define "think".
woah getting all deconstructive in fact define "i"
Holy crap how can you abuse a descartes quote like that...
Its proof of existence, an objective truth.
If you held the view that nothing is objective that there isn't truth to be discovered we would be stuck with the concept that the earth is flat. Objective truth exists we continually make progress towards its realization.
but objectivists in the year oldassfuck B.C. would believe the earth was flat
Why is it when Strider* enters a topic the same 6 people end up posting for like 7 pages? Also: define "is", Bill Clinton is waiting on that one
If you held the view that nothing is objective that there isn't truth to be discovered we would be stuck with the concept that the earth is flat. Objective truth exists we continually make progress towards its realization.
If we held the view that things that seem on the surface to be incredulous aren't worthy of investigation we would be stuck with the concept that the earth is flat as well.
but objectivists in the year oldassfuck B.C. would believe the earth was flat
And they'd also be the first to discover that it wasn't because the search for objective truth doesn't end with your first finding.
Its proof of existence, an objective truth.
what if I was insane, how would that be objective there are so many I's
Its proof of existence, an objective truth.
Yeah, the only objective truth as I just said a moment ago was the ability to know you're you, to know you can doubt or think. That's all. The only one. How can there be any other in that rational?
Why is it when Strider* enters a topic the same 6 people end up posting for like 7 pages? Also: define "is", Bill Clinton is waiting on that one
I'm so attractive.
Its proof of existence, an objective truth.
It's not objective if it only works for the person making the observation you know.
Why is it when Strider* enters a topic the same 6 people end up posting for like 7 pages? Also: define "is", Bill Clinton is waiting on that one
That one made me laugh.
Yeah, the only objective truth as I just said a moment ago was the ability to know you're you, to know you can doubt or think. That's all. The only one. How can there be any other in that rational?
Law of identity.
Law of identity.
You can only prove your existence strider, it can't be an objective truth if it only holds to your view.
A is A!
And they'd also be the first to discover that it wasn't because the search for objective truth doesn't end with your first finding.
not really i mean it's not like they were actively looking for it
And they'd also be the first to discover that it wasn't because the search for objective truth doesn't end with your first finding.
The only thing that would make your posts even better was if there was a fundamentalist christian arguing in here as well, I daresay his arguments would have the same validity and proof of concept as yours.
A is A!
unless a = b because I saw a c = a and I know i've seen b = c before. it's objective because I know it red is red? yeah, my red is what you think blue is. what else you want to go with?
not really i mean it's not like they were actively looking for it
Excuse me who were the objectivists before the modern era?
