oh wow you just had to be even more of a tit about it
i don't want your suggestions, i completely disagree with your interpretations (hah your), and your comprehension of her work stops at wikipedia
i'm so glad we didn't have a discussion about marx, what a bloody joke
Let's go back, why do you keep claiming that line is from the speech.
Your subtle attempts at trolling me by attempting to claim that I'm not familiar with one of my favorite novels are not working successfully.
[editline]8th March 2011[/editline]
Are you sure you didn't sparknotes your way through it in highschool?
How would Atlas Shrugged a novel about the moral justification for laissez-faire capitalism be not about capitalism?
I'm showing how ridiculous his comments are.
He egged me on because he believed Ayn Rand would disagree with me about capitalism being a moral standard low and behold:
"If you want to save capitalism, there is only one type of argument that you should adopt, the only one that has ever won in any moral issue: the argument from self-esteem. Check your premises, convince yourself of the rightness of your cause, and then fight for capitalism with full, moral certainty."
She's saying the same thing anyone who fervently believes in a cause beyond rational reason would say. How is this good.
She's saying the same thing anyone who fervently believes in a cause beyond rational reason would say. How is this good.
We can discuss this later the issue at hand is that thisispain wants to pretend he's read Ayn Rand but now that he's been discovered for the fraud he is is attempting to claim that it is I who has not.

Morality is determined and confirmed by rational reason.

Again, this is the demonstration that her system is based on her ridiculous way of staging characters and what not. How can you possibly not mind this?

if you have the paperback version like i do, go to page 921

"Check your premises, convince yourself of the rightness of your cause, and then fight for capitalism with full, moral certainty." Is not basing anything on rational or reason, but entirely on ego. Telling yourself you are the only judge that exists and no one elses judgements of things matter? I'm all for self confidence and self esteem, i believe in the art I make whole heartedly after all, but there's a point of egoism that is simply stupid, the inability to allow critique.
Taggart and Thompson are having a conversation on page 921...

I'm reading it out of my paper back copy of it right now man.
Why are you arguing about Ayn Rand? She was an insane and selfish dried up bitch.
In fact John Galt's speech doesn't even begin until page 923.
In fact John Galt's speech doesn't even begin until page 923.
Jesus christ, you don't have the same version of the book as him and this disproves what he says how?
Why are you arguing about Ayn Rand? She was an insane and selfish dried up bitch.
I'm arguing that he's never read the book and that this line "If you want to save capitalism, there is only one type of argument that you should adopt, the only one that has ever won in any moral issue: the argument from self-esteem. Check your premises, convince yourself of the rightness of your cause, and then fight for capitalism with full, moral certainty" which comes from one of her essays is not in Atlas Shrugged.

Read the fucking quote and tell me why would John Galt say that during his monologue when he doesn't even speak the word capitalism once.

"My morality, the morality of reason, is contained in a single axiom: existence exists—and in a single choice: to live. The rest proceeds from these. To live, man must hold three things as the supreme and ruling values of his life: Reason—Purpose—Self-esteem. Reason, as his only tool of knowledge—Purpose, as his choice of the happiness which that tool must proceed to achieve—Self-esteem, as his inviolate certainty that his mind is competent to think and his person is worthy of happiness, which means: is worthy of living. These three values imply and require all of man’s virtues, and all his virtues pertain to the relation of existence and consciousness: rationality, independence, integrity, honesty, justice, productiveness, pride."
Nope, that's the quote we're taking about I thought
[editline]8th March 2011[/editline]
Wow, don't you either know jackshit about her or actually suck at reading comprehension
This is where the quote comes from: http://www.aynrand.org/site/PageServer?pagename=arc_ayn_rand_an_answer_for_businessmen
Now don't ever claim to be familiar with her work in my presence again.

Now don't ever post again because you don't even read the arguments you get into
Haha you're right I don't.
Haha you're right I don't.
posting so you can't snip it.
Well then he completely blew off my point which is the moral justification for capitalism which he said Ayn Rand would absolutely disagree with so continue.
And yes I apologize for misreading thisispain all I saw was quote and thought you were referring to the above mentioned one.

I thought you were referring to the capitalism quote. I didn't even read your post except for "where does this quote come from".

She says quite clearly self deception and affirmation is the way to be certain of things. She basically confirms radicalness in her own speal.

Why are you such a pompous douche bag?
Hrmm let's take a fucking look at the Ayn Rand Institutes website on Atlas Shrugged an organization which has spent decades discussing and interpreting her work.
http://atlasshrugged.com/the-philosophy/a-new-moral-code/the-morality-of-business/
You are so wrong it isn't even funny. Capitalism is such an integral part of the novel that I know you either have not read the novel or are mentally incapable of comprehending it.
I can't think of a more depressing life goal than discussing and interpreting the works of a wretched, ugly, stupid, self absorbed hack writer.
I'd rather analyze the complete work of stephanie myer, at least it would be interesting if i were gay.
that's the whole fucking point behind atlas shrugged. it's not about fucking capitalism.
I'd still like you to explain this.
