The Bible doesn't condone this kind of shit, so it's not the religion's fault some nutters decide to follow it
Never read the bible I take it?
So your saying someone who has the power to turn religion against other people, doesn't also have the same power to turn the media against others? Yea.. no.. that's not correct at all.
If you can turn entertainment media into "go kill infidels" and have people actually follow that, you deserve a medal.
The Bible doesn't condone this kind of shit, so it's not the religion's fault some nutters decide to follow it
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy+17
If a man or woman living among you in one of the towns the Lord gives you is found doing evil in the eyes of the Lord your God in violation of his covenant, 3 and contrary to my command has worshiped other gods, bowing down to them or to the sun or the moon or the stars in the sky, 4 and this has been brought to your attention, then you must investigate it thoroughly. If it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, 5 take the man or woman who has done this evil deed to your city gate and stone that person to death.
Hmmmm
Christianity is a religion of peace.
Bit of a difference between nutbars killing their daughters for converting to other religions, and the state condoning the killing of a woman for converting to another religion.
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy+17 Hmmmm
Modern Christianity doesn't follow the Old Testament. It's used to teach lessons because of the stories in it, but it is not followed to the T. Christianity revolves around the teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, that he died for the sins of humanity and all of that. Jesus himself brought with him new rules to follow, and those are the ones modern Christians abide by. You're never going to go into a church and hear the minister tell you to cut the hand off of a thief, and they will never teach the passage you posted as a literal instruction for what to do. The point is to embrace sinners, since there is no one without sin. So no, it may be written in the bible which includes books that are thousands of years old, but the Christian interpretation of the bible does not condone this.
Christianity is a religion of peace.

Religion is peace
Cucumber is peace [editline]18th May 2014[/editline] Also so many people not getting the metareference.
Imagine if there were no religions in the world how many wars and deaths could have been avoided in some extent: - The Crusades - Ottoman empire attacking Europe - WW2 holocaust - many Balkan wars - the list goes on...
The Holocaust would still happen because it was racially motivated. The Crusades were mostly political using religion as a front. The Ottoman invasion was a land grab with little religious motivation. Wars would still happen without religion. Only the naive and the stupid believe otherwise.
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy+17 Hmmmm
What is it with Christianity and stoning people?
What is it with Christianity and stoning people?
Plenty of stones laying around.
What is it with Christianity and stoning people?
It was a popular method of execution a couple thousand years ago, so it's pretty common in religious texts from that time.
Old Testament was still a thing, though. Why was it a thing in the first place?
It's a collection of books written before the time of Jesus. They offer insight as to the origins of the world and how everything began (genisis) and other this like that. Consider like a history book mixed with asops fables. It's something to learn from and Dee inspiration from but not to be followed literally. The Jewish Torah is the first five books of the bible, the books of Moses. Torah translates to "teachings". In English we call it the pentateuch.
"Because God" isn't exactly "insight" :v:
You realize we're talking about books that are thousands of years old? It's what they believed.
Cucumber is peace [editline]18th May 2014[/editline] Also so many people not getting the metareference.
fuck 'em
Bit of a difference between nutbars killing their daughters for converting to other religions, and the state condoning the killing of a woman for converting to another religion.
I challenge you to prove that Islam is responsible for those deaths, and not the "nutbars" who happen to find themselves in a position to carry out those acts. For example, if someone who believes as this father does somehow found himself in complete control of the country he lives in, and then decided to kill people for converting from Christianity to Islam, would Christianity then be at fault or just the "nutbar" who found his way into power?
Christianity is a religion of peace.
Yeah right, seen the Westboro Baptist Church? God bringing the hurricanes and punishing us for gay marriage and shit? Atleast with Islam it's muslims that do the killing. The Christian god is an asshole!
Yeah right, seen the Westboro Baptist Church? God bringing the hurricanes and punishing us for gay marriage and shit? Atleast with Islam it's muslims that do the killing. The Christian god is an asshole!
They're the exact same god.
They're the exact same god.
If god isn't real, it can not be the same god.
Christianity is a religion of peace.
There's a difference between: 1) Man of group X did act Y. And 2) Man did act Y because of group X.
They're the exact same god.
It's not the same god. In Christianity, god took on a human form and came to earth. The Muslim god did no such thing. They're not the same.
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy+17 Hmmmm
Good job quoting a book that isn't only not relevant at all to Christianity, but a book that can immediately dismissed as nothing more than the ramblings of a Northern Israeli folk religion. It claims to be written by Moses though. It was actually written a long time afte the supposed exodus, and came to its modern form after the exile in Babylon.
If god isn't real, it can not be the same god.
Your open mindedness towards others is truly an inspiration
it's kind of hilarious to see that none of the usual assholes who spout hate speech at muslims in other threads are in here spouting hate speech at this guy it's almost as if they're ridiculously hypocritical or something

Isn't Islam basically the sequel to Christianity anyway? He should've moved on.
Isn't Islam basically the sequel to Christianity anyway? He should've moved on.
Islam is more like the third one in a trilogy, Judaism is the first, then Christianity.

It has nothing to do with a bias against Islam, if you go back and read my old posts you'll see that I'm against all religion equally. But hey, why do I try right?
Nobody is gonna be turned to the "light" because some dude on the internet who's obsessed with skepticism said they should be more skeptical god damn

Mah, I'm pretty sure it's just has to do with you addressing legitimate arguments with: People trying to actually get ideas across have limits ya know.
 [editline]19th May 2014[/editline] I wasnt even referring to you. I was more talking about the guys that come in acting like islam is the only religion that ever caused people to do some stupid shit and talk about ethnic cleansing and whatever. at least your problem is with all religion instead of just one for stupid reasons
It's so frustrating when I try to use Christianity to promote equal rights and humanitarianism and then you get the westburo baptist church getting everything wrong and this chucklefuck murdering people followed by everyone blaming it on Christianity and spitting out dodgy misinterpreted and obsolete quotes from the old first half of the Bible (which was not written by God and we have no proof to believe that the writers were wholesomely telling the truth) The whole idea of Christianity is love one another and treat people equally. Not murder people or hate gays or whatever kind of discrimination that uninformed people believe it's all about. I understand much of the frustration of feminists now, I can only imagine what it must be like to try and promote a good humanitarian cause only to have it fucking ruined by assholes parading around under your flag and wearing your uniform doing stupid shit to get your name tainted. I wish there was still a way to be a Christian and not be associated with these people.
