• Man removes graffiti from wall, returns later to find image of himself sprayed in its place

This is a modern art masterpiece, seriously. This is the sort of irony and spectacle that modern artists should strive to accomplish
Fuck anyone who thinks graffiti isn't art.
The UK gets all the coolest graffiti artists.
Fuck anyone who thinks graffiti isn't art.
Some of it isn't. There was a beautiful memorial mural sprayed into an underground skate park nearby my house. Stunning piece of work, but after about 5 years it got covered up with ugly-ass gang tags and crap like that and only the center of the face remains. People should only strip off ugly vanity work like embellished tags.

Sure, it can be seen vandalism, but its still art regardless. Art is nothing but a physical representation of an idea. [editline]29th July 2013[/editline] But yes, I still partially agree with you.

If it's city property, the city also has full right. Most business owners fear graffiti staying on their property because it would attract more of the stereotypes they think are related to graffiti-laden areas. Think about an area that's just painted up, and try not to imagine police sirens in the distance and some guys hanging out in hoodies around an alleyway entrance or something, this is the general conception of that culture. To be fair that's about how it is, but only because people don't care to clean up graffiti in areas that are just terrible because it's dangerous/pointless. It's a side effect, not a cause.

I'm just happy this thread hasn't had an "I could shit on a canvas and call it art" comment yet [editline]e[/editline] my merge? [editline]e[/editline]
It is art.
your merge too also I love that can because the discussion about it prove the exact point he was making about the art world and its critics
It is art.
It's shit.
No shit.
Regardless. I dislike how things like that can be art. Because to me, it devalues the meaning of art. If anything can be art, there is nothing that is not art. And if everything and nothing is art, what's the bloody point of describing something as such?
There's a guy who's been doing murals for years about historic shots of the former village of Islington, now a neighbourhood of Toronto. They're all along Dundas Street, between Islington and Kipling.
There's nothing wrong with calling what you want as art, but that doesn't mean it's good art or art exempt from criticism as people tend to belive.
I'm just happy this thread hasn't had an "I could shit on a canvas and call it art" comment yet
I could make a canvas using shit and then paint art on it if you liked.
If you painted that black, it'd be right at home in Mordor.
mormondor
I drive by this often. All the young kids here think it's some sort of castle.
That's what I thought as well.

Graffiti artists have the best sense of humor.

It's all garbage, the least they could do if they're going to muck up someone's fence is put a piece of artwork on it.
If you painted that black, it'd be right at home in Mordor.
There'd be one hell of a prank Under the cover of night paint the whole thing solid black and replace all the gardens with dead plants
There'd be one hell of a prank Under the cover of night paint the whole thing solid black and replace all the gardens with dead plants
That's just depressing, though I'd admire the coordination to paint an entire building black in under 12 hours.

There's a railroad station in my town, and you can drive right up near the trains, at least close enough to see the graffiti in detail.
Graffiti is really cool when it's done well, like the photos in the OP. But you're kind of a cunt if you do it on property that isn't yours or on something someone wanted you to in my book.
There's nothing wrong with calling what you want as art, but that doesn't mean it's good art or art exempt from criticism as people tend to belive.
Then criticize it all you want that's fine. People only say that when someone says something isn't art which isn't the same as criticism.
That's just depressing, though I'd admire the coordination to paint an entire building black in under 12 hours.
They could get those Russian guys who stole a bridge to do it.

But when they get to do some bombing on murals or a big piece they really give everything some amazing color.
I really doubt that dailymail is the one who took the first picture (since it would have been used by the graffiti artist in the first place to make the second graffiti) So I dont know why they're putting their copyright watermark on it
because they took the picture, the picture itself is copyrighted.
