New York City bans large sodas and other sugary drinks at restaurants, movie theaters
Actually, yes, although not large theaters. We have a 3 screen theater here that a friend of the family owns now, and she told us that she hardly gets any money from ticket sales and gets most from snacks and drinks. The best part of her owning the place is the occasional free movie when she's there.
they should add baked goods to their concessions bar. everyone loves a scone.
uh no corn gets subsides because of huge food corporations. And are you suggesting the city of new york end corn subsides? that's a little beyond their abilities.
My point is that this won't accomplish anything.
I'm not convinced that much of anything short of the national level is going to help, and the current system essentially makes it impossible to fix stuff because the farmer's unions are so powerful. They have billions to throw around.
help me help me I don't understand the link between unhealthy food & drink and weight problems
I need somebody else to tell me what to eat because I have no self control but expect everything to fall perfectly into place

I keep eating and keep eating but I'm still morbidly obese :(
Once again, people in power are telling us what we can and can't do. That's what I call the pursuit of happiness.
Good thing I don't live in New York! :v:
too me this is too big of a change for something. if maybe they did it slowly like idk lowering the size of the drink.to just outright ban it so fast is a little to much
Wow, it's almost like Bloomberg is a flaming retard or something!
Bloomberg = soda Hitler
prohibition always works well IDK what you guys are on about
are you fucking comparing a blanket ban on all alcohol to restricting the size of soda cups
are you fucking comparing a blanket ban on all alcohol to restricting the size of soda cups
There can be a prohibition on anything. A prohibition is a ban of something. Yes, there was a specific one, but that does not mean it is not a verb anymore.
The fact of the matter is that what they're doing is just a huge waste of resources and OUR money. If I want 16 ounces, I'll buy two fucking 8 ounces. This changes absolutely nothing aside from the money I'm giving the store. Just the fact that they can prohibit whatever they want, just like that, is a bit disturbing. Especially when it's such a benign factor on the subject of obesity. It's just stupid.

dangit bobby
stop being an idiot
its like his comparing fucking SODA to cigarettes
I knew the petitions to stop this would do nothing, and doing this won't help to further educate people about obesity. Just because you keep people from abusing one thing doesn't mean they can't get it anywhere else, or replace it with something else.
I think it's fun to get a giant drink once every blue moon.
Some people abuse it, yeah their choices cost healthcare a buttload of money potentially. But it's their choice.
Nobody likes seeing fat children eat their lives away because their parents suck, but eh, it's a slippery slope. You can only encourage healthy behavior, not ban detrimental behavior.
fuck soda
