Apple pulls apps with confederate flag, including civil war games
The Iron Cross isn't that bad though. It is still used today in the German military, albeit in a slightly different style.

that's because people haven't arbitrarily decided that it's an offensive symbol and should be censored yet
We better start burning books about the confederacy and censoring movies showing the flag too. I mean, we've got to do this for the good of everyone. It's common knowledge that just a glimpse of the confederate flag will stir racist feelings and ideologies in people.

i know that when i see the good ol' stars and bars i get a stirring deep down in my heart, as though my inner me is putting on blackface and whooping the jesus out of my large field of shackled blacks.

especially when i see it in a civil war game, that is when it gets extra beaty down there in my inner self plantation

That's true. I saw J!NX's avatar, and now I have the strong urge to own people.
some dude shoots up a place and every ones a giant bitch about it
instead of pissing on a flag how about you mourn the dead.

I have won
time to take over FP with my avatar

Okay but people have a right to be upset about it.
Banning every depiction of the confederate flag is not the answer to the problem but people do have a genuine reason to be upset about what happened.

yeah i agree that people do have the right to be upset, and i think public buildings flying it is a problem, but things like this are really kneejerky

No one is saying people shouldn't be upset, and I do think that there are discussions to be had. But censoring images of the Confederate Flag is going to accomplish jack shit. It just really feels like a scape goat so people can feel good about being proactive.
I'm aware but the statement that "everyone is being a bitch about it" is heavily ignoring the impact of what happened on various groups of people.
Would be nice if some would show a tiny bit more empathy.
This is getting ridiculous.
It is a fact that the Confederate flag was used during the Civil War. If you think accurate portrayals of the war are racist, then you are saying the facts are racist.
I'm going to start hoarding these flags and sell them for a huge profit 10 years later.
This is really unfortunate
And at the end of the day you won't kill the problems you are wanting to stop by getting rid of a flag
I'm going to start hoarding these flags and sell them for a huge profit 10 years later.
You mean these cheaply made flags that will still be readily available in 10 years time because there isn't any actual law barring the sale of them? truly you are the next big business mind!
We should ban bowl cuts too while we're at it.

Well we probably should have done that anyway.
Civil War strategy games? Pulled!
A game where you do a gory surgery on Princess Elsa's horribly mangled and bloodied corpse? Still up!
Fuck you Apple.

Since when is GirlGames available on iOS?

banning the flag like this instead of mourning the dead is being a bitch about it.
people who are trying to have it banned, it's just taking a tragedy and using it as a vehicle for anger. They don't give a fuck that a church was shot up, they simply are looking for reasons to argue. People should be more concerned that someone killed people than a stupid flag.
The confederate flag was "Ok" before, the only reason people are doing it now is because they have a recent thing that happened.
fuck the confederate flag but also fuck how the media and politicians act like banning it is going to end racism
I'm sorry, I've not been following this, but what's going on with suddenly all of these people wanting to censor the confederate flag?
Last week there was a shooting at a church in the southern USA. Not long after the shooter was identified SJW's and the media were digging up anything they could on him and they were finding a lot of material showing his support for confederacy, plus numerous photographs of him with the flag.
protests started popping up, southern politicians did their usual thing and even though the USA has slapped that flag on everything for decades (with and without controversy) it suddenly became distasteful and insensitive to have ANYTHING related to the flag or the confederate army.
So here we are now where everyone is basically stripping any connection to it from replica General Lee's (a famous orange Dodge charger used in the 70's television show The Dukes of Hazzard) being banned from races to Apple pulling apps. As several have already mentioned, it is similar to how for years Germany has essentially made it illegal to even mention the Nazis.
I got into a facebook argument with someone and used this as one of my points and she kept arguing along the lines of "if someone gets offended by it and we're able to change it, why not change it?"
Oh my god I don't want to live in this world.
I too love ignoring context and censoring history. Apple is my hero.
[sp]This is sarcasm[/sp]

I get what you're saying. Just thought it was a harsh choice of words is all. I'm not disagreeing or anything.

fair enough
it's so tiring that people are trying to get stuff banned just because their feeling were hurt lately.

It's gonna backfire somehow in the future, not just because of the rebel flag. It's not the only thing people are trying to ban.
fair enough

they're trying to ban it because it's being associated with a racial shooting, not because their feelings were hurt you're missing the point
[sp]that being said, there's no reason to ban any symbolism no matter what its associated with in a country that promotes free speech[/sp]
Their store, they can do what they want at the end of the day.
That said, my opinion is that Apple are being kneejerk idiots doing this more to save skin from possible future bullshit than actually giving a fuck about the real issue.
Oh this is stupid, and all the apps with Nazi flags are okay to stay?!
It sickens me how moral panics are no longer the domain of the Christian Right but are slipping right back into the mainstream.
We have to deal with this for years in Germany now.
Modified appearances of Hitler in Videogames where he looks completely different, removal of Swastika Flags, removal of any mentioning of the Third Reich... etc.
We don't have it quite that bad in that movies or educational content using swastikas because they simply happen to be covering the Nazis are a-okay, it really just affects video games.
Apple seem to be doing this for every use of the flag.
