Oh this is stupid, and all the apps with Nazi flags are okay to stay?!
Perhaps ww2 games should be banned.
Are we in the realms of Censorship yet?
I got into a facebook argument with someone and used this as one of my points and she kept arguing along the lines of "if someone gets offended by it and we're able to change it, why not change it?"
Oh my god I don't want to live in this world.
Tell her that you are offended by her arguement and demand her to change it.
This whole ruckus over the confederate flag has prompted me to update my avatar for the first time in four years.
even as someone that leans slightly to the side of not liking the confederate flag, this is fucking ridiculous
This whole thing is so bizarre. The flag went from something people didn't really give a shit about to a complete taboo in the blink of an eye.
I also don't understand the rationale behind banning the symbol even when used in a historical context. How could someone playing a game about the American Civil War be offended by the flags themselves? It makes no sense.
Streisand effect. Been seeing it more than ever recently.
I am waiting for first history book to get censored so I can finish my knee jerk bingo.
Getting closer with every thread about confederate's flag.
We are witnessing the first pointless witch hunt to take place on the internet.
This was posted by the Games Lab team, whose game "Ultime General: Gettysburg" was removed from the App Store (It's also on Steam and is very good).
As you may have been already informed (Read Facebook link), Apple has removed our game from AppStore because of usage of the Confederate Flag. Ultimate General: Gettysburg could be accepted back if the flag is removed from the game's content.
We accept Apple's decision and understand that this is a sensitive issue for the American Nation. We wanted our game to be the most accurate, historical, playable reference of the Battle of Gettysburg. All historical commanders, unit composition and weaponry, key geographical locations to the smallest streams or farms are recreated in our game's battlefield.
We receive a lot of letters of gratitude from American teachers who use our game in history curriculum to let kids experience one of the most important battles in American history from the Commander's perspective.
Spielberg’s "Schindler's List" did not try to amend his movie to look more comfortable. The historical "Gettysburg" movie (1993) is still on iTunes. We believe that all historical art forms: books, movies, or games such as ours, help to learn and understand history, depicting events as they were. True stories are more important to us than money.
Therefore we are not going to amend the game's content and Ultimate General: Gettysburg will no longer be available on AppStore. We really hope that Apple’s decision will achieve the desired results.
We can’t change history, but we can change the future.

Oooh, the wonders of knee-jerk reaction bullshit.
What next, someone driving a General Lee replica gets arrested for racism because of the confederate flag on the roof?

the way you use 'reactionary' isn't correct, fyi. it means to be against major political or social changes

Well alright then.

Ohh that game. Coincidentally an ad for that came up on steam just a while ago. It looks pretty good.

Now everyones doing it.
These are private companies deciding what they want to sell, or have sold, through their marketplaces. People crying censorship and comparing this to Germany and the swastika are morons.
That's not to say the private companies' knee-jerk reactions aren't stupid, but Jesus Christ. Start freaking out when legislation gets passed.
I have no love for the flag but this is a bit much.
The bans are retarded because all it does is cause Southerners to further rally around the flag and drives the wedge between the south and the rest of the country farther. Like it or not, the Confederate Flag is a big part of Southern culture, and attempting to erase it from history because of Goofy Roofy just increases the South's anger with the rest of the country. As a southerner myself, I'm not too keen on the flag, but soft-banning it is an awful idea.
The whole thing is just a knee-jerk reaction from Northeasterners and West Coasters thinking they can beat racism by soft-banning images related to it, like the Confederate flag, when in reality it'll be interpreted by the South as an attack on them as a whole from other parts of the country because of how important it is in their culture. The South already has a bad relationship with the rest of the country for various reasons, so this'll just make things worse.

Maybe we'll secede again. That'd be fun.
this is just fucking silly

Being a private entity does not shield you from judgement.
This isn't the work of "SJW"s, dude. For a company like Apple to pull something like this, there's gotta be a decent amount of general community uproar. Apple is just addressing it in the most extreme manner likely done to prevent them from having to deal with a PR nightmare.
Can't blame everything on "those darn SJW"s.
You clearly do not know whom works for Apple.
Being a private entity does not shield you from judgement.
Agreed, and they should be judged, especially for the historical shit being banned.
But people are blowing this way out of proportion.
Can we stop calling people "Social Justice Warriors?" You guys get how ridiculous that sounds, right?
This is merely a case of monkey see monkey do. These businesses and facilities are just copying what they feel is a good course of action to save their business and appease to political correctness. This one incident sparked a domino effect.
I don't think POSt - wW2 Germany was this retarded.
Its just a flag, If you are so mentally unstable you get offended by a flag, That long since lost its meaning to all but hillbilly's and rednecks, Its a miracle you can function even eighth of a percent in human society.
Flags are a means of a identification of a group, A warning to people outside to danger and steer clear, If there is one thing to like about an enemy faction it's their flag.
Censorship of history is one of the most heinous things you can possibly imagine, If history isn't there as a grave reminder of the what events transpired in the past it could happen again.

I'm pretty sure that is the idea.

It is ridiculous, and that's why we call them that
Can we stop calling people "Social Justice Warriors?" You guys get how ridiculous that sounds, right?
Why not, Makes them sound cooler than they actually are.
