At 8.2 it would be one of the 5 largest since 2000
Jesus that siren is creepy.
I found them only slightly annoying. I also found it hard to hear the voices in the siren from my house.
Turns out they had quite a few in the last days http://www.iris.edu/ieb/index.html?format=text&nodata=404&starttime=1970-01-01&endtime=2025-01-01&minmag=0&maxmag=10&mindepth=0&maxdepth=900&orderby=time-desc&limit=200&maxlat=-16.25&minlat=-24.15&maxlon=-63.83&minlon=-78.97&zm=7&mt=ter
Not to mention that we were all scared because everything pointed to a future big earthquake It happened

We all know what happens when everyone is caught off guard. You can't outrun it once it's swallowing you.
I ran to the hills. Now I'm back on my house. In Valparaiso nothing happened. Also, my phone started to make an alarm and saying (speaking) "Tsunami incoming, go to safe zone" with an alert like that creepy thing at usa. I like how everything went smooth, unlike the clusterfuck that was the 2010 earthquake. That would be creepy as hell
Video on the tsunami:
I heard that the wave entered the city of iquique up to 350 meters. scary. (sorry if my english is bad, it is not my native language)
I'm doing a project about the subduction zone in this region right now this feels so weird
your avatar is an earthquake

Wasn't the Tsunami only 1.8 meters? That's around 6 foot high, and it did that kind of damage?
I don't really understand how a tsunami can be 1.8m high, aren't there normal waves bigger than that? In my mind it should be 50ft tall :v: Of course a small one is preferable, though!
It's not the size that does the damage. It's the energy. A tsunami can look like a normal large wave except it doesn't stop at the beach. [editline]2nd April 2014[/editline] Which is why sirens are great because people expect them to be huge walls of water so they think nothing of the large waves on the horizon. Until you realize it never broke and now its right there and then it's too late to run.
