What if all shops start doing this? Should I starve to death?
Any other course of action would be dishonorable.
Noooo my privacy! I'm walking into a privately owned store and they're recording my gender and what ads I'm interested in! What is this world coming to?
You act as if the massive chain stores and advertisers are innocent businesses that have no intention of parting us from our well earned money in any but the best of means. It's almost like they don't spend millions of dollars every year studying customer psychology and choices so they can better learn how to use our decision making processes against us.
I honestly don't understand everyone pretending there is some major breach in privacy going on here. It detects your age and gender to show you things they think you're most likely to buy. Cool, that's fine. They're not taking down my name and recording everything I purchase. If you don't like it don't watch the ad or don't shop there. It eludes me how people can make such a big deal out of this. Is everyone against security cameras too because they record you looking at things?
They're not taking down my name and recording everything I purchase. You do realize that information is already being recorded and sold right?
yeah i'm not really seeing the problem here "oh no a computer knows what my sex is and a rough approximation of my age! and worst of all, they're using it to... attempt to make the ads i look at more relevant and tailored to me!!! the horror!!! george orwell is spinning in his grave atm"
I agree with you, actually. Like if adverts are gonna exist anyway I'd RATHER they be tailored to me than be completely random and of no interest to me. I rarely cave to advertisement anyway (although I will admit the Honda 'Impossible Dream' ad really made me want a fucking Honda) so it wouldn't really change my life too much I imagine I'd just be presented with things that are more relevant to me and if anything piqued my interest I'd then go away and do further research on it. All I ask if that the random lingerie ads stick around on huge billboards and the likes. Boobies brighten my day.
