Looks like my university's evacuation plan is being pushed to tomorrow morning while the storms hitting us. :v:
Sticking around as well. Just got finished covering everything on my patio, filling up the tub and some buckets for water just in case, I advise others to do the same. Gonna head to CVS for some last minute stuff. Stay safe guys!
Dammit Matthew, don't destroy us too much
The eye will be passing over us.
I'm in Palm Beach County. We got shutters up, powerbanks, got our yard cleared and such. Wonder how it will compare to Wilma who hit us like a bitch around here.
Hey! I am also in PBC. I'm like 4 miles from the coastline. Cheers to being absolutely fucked, friend
The only thing you need to worry about is Jim Cantore. If he shows up, you need to evacuate immediately.
The only thing you need to worry about is Jim Cantore. If he shows up, you need to evacuate immediately.
It's actually a common misconception that people are evacuated due to the storm. The real cause is that Cantore is making a stop, and as an effect, the storm will be worse. Jim Cantore brings the storm... Also, people see shit like this and start panicking: But this is for pre-fab houses and and houses 80+ years old. Shit in Florida doesn't do this because we have hurricane codes for buildings.
They are saying it could possibly become a category 5.
Why has no one organized a FP hurricane party somewhere around Melbourne/Palm Bay? We missed a great opportunity. I even have generators for LAN fun :(
I got family in Jacksonville and I'm worried for them. They say they don't want to evacuate, so hopefully it won't be that bad down there?
I got family in Jacksonville and I'm worried for them. They say they don't want to evacuate, so hopefully it won't be that bad down there?
If they were ordered to evac, then they need to evac, period. If they did not receive evac orders, and they don't have to cross a bridge to get to their home, then they can stay and just wait through the storm. Basically, if you aren't at a low-plain flood risk or on a barrier island, you don't have much to fear besides the wind, which isn't an issue for most modern homes (minus shingles).

I would show them all the news sources saying to leave. https://weather.com/storms/hurricane/news/hurricane-matthew-bahamas-florida-georgia-carolinas-forecast
For anyone in the Hurricanes path, be safe and don't get killed trying to film the hurricane
For anyone in the Hurricanes path, be safe and don't get killed trying to film the hurricane
My truck and wakeboard await the floods
So, my family finally agreed to evac out of here. Staying with some family further inland. Better safe than sorry.
Anyone else here in the Daytona area? Apparently they're just going to evacuate the beachside by 6, the folks on the mainland don't seem to have much to worry about as far as evacuations go not unless something comes up. Luckily my house is on some kind of grade, but then again my idiot neighbor's got a bunch of trees in their yard hanging over my roof.
I'm currently heading up to Orlando with my ma and grandpa. And this hurricane comes right when my family and I were almost done setting up our grandpa new house in sat beach, hope it's there when I came back. Also goodluck to my Melbourne homies, be safe out there.
So it's just been breezy up until now. It's picking up a bit to where I hear it from inside. I'm still a child at heart so I kinda want a little bit of it to make it worth the days of clean up, hauling thick steel shutters and cutting myself in the process. Still got power and internet though. Internet usually goes first.
Luckily part of the west coast, but we're running out of food and gas here from all the east coasters evacuating to our side. Regardless, stay safe guys.
So I do computer work for a landscape installer, who has their nursery right up the road (a mile). [t]https://puu.sh/rA7iz/d560ccd7b1.jpg[/t] However, my house is ready: [t]https://puu.sh/rA7vn/acc58b5893.png[/t] Plenty of downed tree potential. If anyone needs firewood, hmu after the storm fam.

I honestly think that anyone who isn't leaving is insane. This really looks extremely dangerous. I never experienced a hurricane though, but from what I've seen I really wouldn't dare staying. :v: Is something like this survivable? Are most houses built to handle such events?

When Katrina hit, the levee burst which let the ocean flood New Orleans

it's really weird how I live in zone D for flooding (theres basically no risk since I live behind a creek, downhill, in an elevated house) but the park across the street is zone A for biggest risk of flooding the zones are weird
Is it happening? (Livestream) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQB343UxXyQ&feature=share
the roads are closed and im so fucking bored can this storm just please actually make landfall so this gets a little more interesting
They are saying it could possibly become a category 5.
Unlikely this close to shore.
It's actually a common misconception that people are evacuated due to the storm. The real cause is that Cantore is making a stop, and as an effect, the storm will be worse. The eye wall passed a mile from me. I don't even pay attention to these Categories anymore. It really depends how close to the eye you are and on what side you're on. 30+ miles away from a cat 4 on the WEST side of the eye? 50mph winds. It's actually fun. I've been on the beach during a Cat 3 and it was FUN. Just wear pants. But the east side of the eye, same distance? Full fucking blunt force, you don't want to be in it. Your home may be mostly okay (In Florida) from the wind, but bridges start getting knocked over in large sections due to the force of the water from the huge waves, debris is flying in the air, rain hurts, you can barely stand up, paint on your car gets sandblasted off Lot of rain though, so if you're in a low lying area, there's no getting away from the rain They also lose steam so fast. Ivan was a category 5 when it started making landfall, and by the time the eye hit shore it was already a cat 3
