Hurricane Matthew to Strike Florida as C4 Hurricane, Get Ready To Die!
It isn't overkill. If this actually hits Florida, which it still might tomorrow afternoon the way the projections keep changing every hour, the unlucky city it makes landfall at would be devastated. The thing was powerful enough to do some damage to the Bahamas and ruin part of Haiti. Throw that at a coastal city like Daytona Beach and you got serious problems.
The only person that died was some dude in South Carolina who was killed for shooting at a group of deputies while evacuating. The evacuation has been remarkably well handled.
I promise you, unless this thing gains to a Cat5 over night, there will be minimal devastation in Florida. This storm has been overhyped out the ass so far.

There will be devastation along the coast and people will die from this in Florida. Saying it's overhyped is incredibly shortsighted.
This isn't Katrina or Sandy, but this isn't something to scoff at.

Even if it gained wind speed the brunt of it would still be off the coast until it made landfall. It would've been worse had it made a direct landfall on a population center, which was well within it's cone of uncertainty. For awhile it looked like it might land on Cape Canaveral which would've been bad for Space. All in All it's looking like a dodged bullet for now.

Either way, being over prepared is better than being under prepared. The only stupid move is not doing anything.
Haiti got the worst of it when it was CAT5, those poor people.
Latest predictions show it sitting as a Category 3 about 20 miles east of the Cape. For where I'm at that now means we should (hopefully) be getting only category 1 winds.
It's times like these that remind me how happy I should be to live in Nevada, where no natural disasters happen, ever.
Guess who lives north of saint augustine and south of Jacksonville (aka right in the impact zone between Daytona and jax) :)
I'm out of town and safe with my family. My house and computer are not so lucky.
Man, looks like South Carolina is going to get fucked up. Glad I live in the upstate. Feel really bad for everyone near the coast.
I'm pretty much just south of Melbourne and I slept through the storm passing and the power is still up
Heard some roof tiles breaking overnight but that's about it so far
So... Apparently the hurricane passed over while I was sleeping. And abso-fucking-lutely nothing happened. I just walked outside and it was mildly windy.
Bitch ass Matthew better stay out of Ft. Lauderdale.

From the news it looked like it was going to go trough every single city :v: But apparently right now it's kinda gliding near the sea?
It's just heavy breezes and lots of rain so far where I live, this wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
I called this from the start, everyone overhyping this storm. If the hurricane isn't coming from the gulf, and its not projected to pass over the state of Florida, then we're fine.
I'm near the UCF area and my friend wanted to go back to our homes near Tampa. Now that we're well out of harm's way, the news is that our side of the county is suggesting evacuation and our old high school is open as a shelter. This is a gross overreaction for a completely safe region.
I live right near you and I spent my whole night trying to drink a bottle of vodka by myself. #heck
Complaining about the overhype is stupid imho. They just wanted to avoid another Katrina, which is totally understandable. In about ten years, when we get several cat 4 impacts per a year, you'll have to get used to it

Yes, it's completely ridiculous. Yesterday this was tracking to make landfall around Port Canaveral, inland past Cape Canaveral, as a category 4. If that had happened this would have been much, much worse. Getting pushed 20 miles out to sea makes a huge difference for anybody that's not sitting on a beach and we're lucky that's what happened.
Thankfully where I live this turned it into strong tropical storm winds, but I was ready for category 2 winds (which would have happened with the earlier tracks) and losing power for a week.
I've been run over by the eye of "only" a category 2 hurricane before and shit fucking sucked. I really don't want to go through that again.

just drove to get stuff from redbox blaring death grips in fast winds
this hurricane aint shit
(already back home, no need to worry)
yeah I'm glad it ended up not going directly over Florida; I walked around last night at midnight and it was just super windy with slight rain. Off work yesterday and today, not too bad

There was supposed to be 80-90 mph winds here in Orlando right mow.... and it's only like 20 mph. :(
I'm disappointed.
The eye never made landfall. The hurricane wasn't overblown. It just didn't hit where expected. The damage caused by hurricanes vary's greatly depending on where it is.
Provided that Matthew carries out the gradual curve to the right expected late Friday through Saturday, its center will likely remain between about 20 and 50 miles off the coast, perhaps all the way to Charleston, SC, by Saturday night. This path would be enough to keep Matthew’s inner core and its top sustained winds offshore, which is very good news in terms of limiting the most severe wind damage
https://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/matthew-toys-with-florida-coast-major-surge-threat-remains
Unless some of you live 30 miles off shore, none of you experienced what you were expected to experience.
If Matthew fails to make landfall on Friday, or if it does come ashore below Category 3 strength, the remarkable and unprecedented U.S. “drought” in major hurricane landfalls will continue. The last hurricane to strike the U.S. with Category 3 winds was Wilma, in October 2005--nearly 11 years ago.
Yeah just watched a bit of Channel 4 news. St. Augustine is a no go if you're on the road. Arlington/St. Johns Bluff also has some downed power lines & trees so if you are out in those areas do be careful.
I'm just across the ditch in Marsh Landing and we're starting to get some sizeable rain & wind.
