My cousin in Orlando is saying the rain is hitting the house like a bulldozer and the winds are 75 mph
I'm nice and dry in my house but power is out so I'm on my phone.
I'm nice and dry in my house but power is out so I'm on my phone.
yeah same here. plumbing still works though, just in the dark with my friend talking video games.
My cousin in Orlando is saying the rain is hitting the house like a bulldozer and the winds are 75 mph
Sounds like bullshit as I live in orlando and winds aren't even 20 mph. It rained super hard at like 8pm, no rain whatsoever at 3-5am when it was expected to hit, and now it's a bit windy and that's it. What a disappointment.
Damn, Matthew's a pussy. I was expecting it to be worse, instead it wasn't as bad as we expected it. Well, thank goodness for that at least. I hope everyone in Daytona Beach and northwards will be OK.

Just checked the twitter feed, Matt downgraded to a CAT2, and apparently chunks of the pier at jax beach were washed away. they're saying it's going to lose steam but those in Georgia and the Carolinas should still be vigilant.
Let me rephrase that: The major part of this hurricane never hit Florida as expected.
Hurricane Matthew heard 2016 was the year people were fed up with experts and made a hard turn right.
Not sure if this has been posted - but I use this from time to time when we have low pressure systems near us. https://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/surface/level/orthographic=-77.59,31.02,2819/loc=-59.118,29.660

As soon as it hit cat 4 yesterday I got right the fuck outta there [t]http://i.imgur.com/7HeC3Be.png[/t]
As soon as it hit cat 4 yesterday I got right the fuck outta there
Avoiding Valdosta and Tallahassee, well played.

It's a bit west at Panama City Beach

My dad became the new assistant district manager so the campground RV serves as my temporary home. The park serves as the headquarters for the district. He's been appointed to direct the entire state of Florida's volunteer efforts for community cleanup. It's one hell of a job initiation.
Over 800 people have died.
In Haiti maybe. In Florida, one lady had cardiac arrest and was unable to be saved because emergency operations were shutdown in that area during the storm. So because of that, they called it storm-related. It's hardly a boot knocker for anywhere with a proper infrastructure for this kind of thing.
One of my friends had a very large tree fall into their house.

Hoping my college (which is in Charleston) is alright, the webcam footage from there went pitch black a short while ago. Glad I managed to evacuate well ahead of time, gas is running low pretty much everywhere south of the midlands (where Columbia, Aiken, and other cities are). I've spotted a ton of campers/RVs and cars parked in school lots and store parking lots, so I'm guessing my hometown's also an evacuation destination. (I got lucky and am with family, but other people I know at my college had to find hotels in Columbia or Charlotte/Raleigh)
My hometown St.Augustine is currently flooded. Saw some pictures and videos of downtown and it actually hurt to see it in such a state. I really hope most of my friends and family got out okay..

It hit Haiti and killed hundreds.
The hurricane didn't hit Florida. It hit Haiti and killed hundreds.
The hurricane certainly "hit" Florida, but yeah, obviously not head-on like Haiti. It's disingenuous to compare the damage of the two since Haiti would be devastated by a tropical storm on it's own. I never doubted the loss of life, but no one was talking about damage to Haiti. I'm not sure what your point was?

Idiots who are going to get themselves killed the next time Florida experiences a Category 4+ storm. My point is saying this hurricane wasn't bad is factually incorrect and ignorant. It never made landfall in Florida, it never hit Florida with hurricane force wind at the eye wall. I'm saying that if you say this wasn't a bad hurricane, you are being a moron. It is a historically significant hurricane. [editline]8th October 2016[/editline] I simply don't understand how or why people brag about how little a hurricane impacted them.

It is a historically significant hurricane.
Historically speaking, this hurricane isn't even a top 5 in Haiti. They have had multiple which result in thousands of deaths. But, again, no one was talking about the effects of 2016 Hurricane Matthew on Haiti. People are discussing the hurricane where they live, Florida (and norther east coast states). From the point of view everyone else has been talking, yes, this hurricane is statistically insignificant. The idiots you claim will die in the next storm have already been talked on and criticized for about 3 pages. We called them idiots for not following evac orders. If you aren't in an evac zone during a storm, you are far more likely than not going to be safe.
I simply don't understand how or why people brag about how little a hurricane impacted them.
Because it didn't. It's a way of life in Florida to experience hurricanes. We made it through a storm that was overhyped to hell and back on the media, and it was pretty underwhelming comparative to the hype. So we brag and celebrate, because the earth throws a giant spinning deathball of cloud at us and we win.
Been without power for like 13 hrs cuz a tree hit power lines. Drove to local town cause no bars where I live if my home hotspot isn't on. Just chilling in a Lowe's parking lot now Besides that absolutely nothung happened at all. No house damage, nothing in the yard is missing, I literally slept through the whole thing Try harder Matthew
Someone in Florida did this: [vid]http://i.imgur.com/6oE77yi.mp4[/vid] This is also how I pictured ForgottenKane to go through this.
So... Apparently the hurricane passed over while I was sleeping. And abso-fucking-lutely nothing happened. I just walked outside and it was mildly windy. Bitch ass Matthew better stay out of Ft. Lauderdale.
Have hardly heard anything about Savannah in the storm besides that it got downgraded. Doesn't seem to bad, one news segment made it seem like the power didn't even go out.

https://weather.com/news/news/hurricane-matthew-georgia-update Our beautiful Savannah moss has become grass. :saddowns:
I'm thinking we won't be so lucky when the next super hurricane comes. And Florida will be hit.
