• Hurricane Matthew to Strike Florida as C4 Hurricane, Get Ready To Die!

I live in Ponte Vedra St. John's County. Got back today around 12. Some trees in my complex got uprooted and a big Oak tree crashed into the center pond. Besides that and some superficial damage to the outsides of a few buildings theres nothing major. Went down to the shopping center where I work to check on the restaurant for my boss and the whole place looks untouched. Finally got my power and water back about 30 minutes ago. We got pretty damn lucky with this hurricane.
Coastal va here, getting hammered mildly by the remains of Matthew, about 80k without power which is laughable compared to every other state it has hit. Fuckload of flooding though.
I haven't been following this well, on the news I hear it's horrible and whatnot, but social media shows people mostly joking about it and not really worrying or saying "what about Haiti?" so honestly I'm confused about if it's just bad because it exceeded expectations or because it was almost like Katrina It makes me feel bad because my family goes on vacation to Orlando every year in December (though they are thinking about postponing it due to said circumstances) and it'll be a bit odd to be going to tourist locations while a lot of the surrounding area is messed up.
SCAD is cancelling classes for both the Atlanta and Savannah campuses for the rest of the week. They wont take us back to the city until Tuesday, I might need to buy clean clothes.

I'm going the fuck home to Maine for the week. :v: [editline]9th October 2016[/editline] I'm kinda really pissed at how scad has been handling this, especially since the people who went off on their own aren't allowed back. What the fuck kind of double standard I guess is that??
It wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be in Daytona. from the predicted trajectory it looked like I was gonna get hit head on but didn't. Still lost power for over a day and tons of traffic lights are out along with trees and branches everywhere, but it was a bit exaggerated.
Over 800 people have died.
Fuck. I feel terrible for that post. I didn't mean it as if there wasn't any damage, but that it wasn't as bad as it was made out to be for Florida. I understand that there was loss of life in the Caribbean, and that any loss of life is devastating.

The latest news is that they are "recommending" that those who have been evacuated to the Atlanta campus go home or find more comfortable arrangements for the next week, to sweeten the deal they are stopping meal and bus shuttle services. :v: They can't really afford to look after a campus of stranded students, feed them and house them while they are simultaneously trying to get everything on both campuses back up and running too, but they cant just kick us out either.

I live off campus, and Georgia Power's website says my apartment has power so I'll probably be returning tomorrow. Midterms are going to be mess.

All my friends that I came up with I know don't have really anywhere to go. But I do definitely understand the cost and stress of immediately bringing everyone back.
The family and I just returned to our apartment in Jacksonville. Thankfully no major damage and the power is working. I hope others are as fortunate.
My roommates returned to Savannah aside from the power going out our house was untouched. Considering what the damage was in the city as a whole getting away with just loosing power is pretty lucky. Our news crew gave them snacks they had in the car.
Dunno if they were SCAD or SAVTech but either way its really heartwarming seeing people who care.
I just got power back in my house after losing it midday friday here in North Florida(I stayed). Beaches are pretty destroyed and there are a ton of huge trees blocking roads and power lines still. But really glad the storm went more east and weakened because a hit dead on would've pretty much crippled us for a couple weeks.
GA here, been getting really windy and rainy where I live. Hope it doesn't get much worse. Past few hurricanes haven't hit too hard at all. Really hope it stays that way.
Officially no power for 24 hours. Getting mixed reports of "it could be days before power is fully restored" vs "everything will be up in the morning" Fuck my city tbh.
powers been back on since last night :ok:
Knowing my city I don't expect power to be restored to my house until Wednesday the earliest, im in no rush to go back home, at least in Atlanta I can charge my phone.
My college restarts classes Wednesday and starts reopening dorms Tuesday Damn that's a fast turnaround.

Powers out for a lot of places in Raleigh NC. Fallen trees messed up my school bus route so I was lte for classes. Wonder how the government will handle Haiti this time around
My town was torn apart by all the rain from this hurricane, the flooding was intense, power was out in my area for the whole weekend and it's still out in some areas, several dams burst, lots of roads washed out, the water supply is contaminated, and the sewer systems are wrecked.
You in NC? I just saw some drone footage from there on the news- place looks annihilated from the floods.
Meanwhile mines closed till the 17th. :v:
I ended up getting a flight home since I evacuated on my own and couldn't afford to stay in Atlanta longer. :v:
Just got my power back after 3 days. Maybe it's just me, but you don't realize how much you really rely on electricity until it's gone. 90% of our city was out for a few days. Trees down everywhere, power lines crossed nearly every road...it was crazy. Luckily no flooding like what happened here last year. Insurance is a fucking life saver. 2 busted windows, a blown out door, flooding on the first floor (I'm in a low area so it wasn't a surprise) which got past the sandbags, and was out of food yesterday because I'm a sucker and shared my canned stuff. All in all everything else was fine! Moved all of my shit up to the second floor a day prior. And best part is that I'm 80mi from the nearest coastline. I was sleeping when it hit and woke up in the middle of the night because I thought somebody was breaking into my house and started screaming or something. That wind was loud!
Finally got back into my dorm at college- luckily Charleston didn't get hit too hard, so my stuff's fine and nobody's really too displaced at the moment. Sadly, there's some cleanup at the department building most of my classes are at due to water getting in- 2 floors up?
I havent been keeping up with this hurricane at all but it looks like it did jackshit to central florida and fucked up the coast and some states above us? After Hurricane charley barely did anything when i moved to Kissimmee, FL i wasn't really worried about this one either. Oh and Haiti keeps getting fucked up by these hurricanes.
