• Girl has Christmas Rage over Facebook, Suspended.

This is why people in high school shouldn't be allowed to have a facebook if they're going to say shit that will get them suspended. Or at least make it so privacy is at maximum setting or w/e protection facebook has.
woah you're totally misunderstanding what the story is. she said paki's and towel heads and thus was suspended for saying weird shit. how that turned into "people got butthurt over her saying christmas i have no idea"
No, I'm not. I understand about that shit. I was referring to the person who said that Canada isn't a Christian Country and explaining why her point about christmas was still valid because although not officially christian, Canada is a majority christian country. If anything you should be telling Darkzero226 that he misunderstood the point of the story. [editline]11th December 2011[/editline]
Sure she hasn't done that yet but suggesting it should be a good reason to suspend her for some time imo. Free speech != hate speech.
I hate you, bitch. Suspend me. My point is: Hate speech is speech that is used to incite violence or persecution. Calling someone a towelhead is not inciting violence. It is not hate speech, and it is not illegal. [editline]11th December 2011[/editline] Either way, if it was hate speech the school still had no right to suspend her. She is 19, you would contact the police.

is this girl retarded?
"Everybody knows I'm not racist. I have a lot of friends who are Arabic, Pakistani, blacks,"
just because you have friends that are whatever you say, doesn't justify it. thats like me walking up to my black friends and saying "Whats up n---a"
So I am allowed to call them towelheads now? Holy shit this is amazing.
When were you ever not allowed to use derogatory terms without fear of persecution in Canadian history? For real, if you guys aren't allowed to use the words nigger, kike, spic, towelhead, and paki, then you guys obviously don't have any free speech.
So I am allowed to call them towelheads now? Holy shit this is amazing.
Depending on where you're from it would be considered free speech. Ill advised speech either way though.
Depending on where you're from it would be considered free speech. Ill advised speech either way though.
That's the point of a free society. You are allowed to express your views without fear of repression, and you are also allowed to call out the views you think are bullshit.
is this girl retarded? just because you have friends that are whatever you say, doesn't justify it. thats like me walking up to my black friends and saying "Whats up n---a"
Inevitably, that's always the thing that racist people say after saying awful, intolerant things. "I have [insert race here] friends!" As if that made any difference whatsoever.
yeah fuck off you Christians this is indigenous American land you will obey our religions wait I read this wrong didn't I
Inevitably, that's always the thing that racist people say after saying awful, intolerant things. "I have [insert race here] friends!" As if that made any difference whatsoever.
Isn't having [race] friends essentially telling that you hate this specific person/group/whatever but are not generalizing? If you have a friend from a different race, would you really call the entire race this or that?
Saying go back to your own country is inciting hatred.
Isn't having [race] friends essentially telling that you hate this specific person/group/whatever but are not generalizing?
Isn't having [race] friends essentially telling that you hate this specific person/group/whatever but are not generalizing? If you have a friend from a different race, would you really call the entire race this or that?
No it's saying that you're a racist but you've found some exceptions to your racism
Saying go back to your own country is inciting hatred.
Not illegal to incite hatred. Inciting violence is, but telling someone to go back to their own country doesn't incite violence.
Burge goes on to suggest walking through Kennedy Collegiate dressed up as Santa and "screaming merry christmas to the arabs, pakis, towel heads and whatever other race that doesnt like it."
?
I know on chinese new year, I love to go around my school dressed like a dragon yelling "HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR CRACKERS"
Every time it was chinese new year i find the nearest asian and they always gave me candy, I sometimes don't even Remember how i knew it was chinese new year honestly, I think they kept announcing it on the bus.
Not illegal to incite hatred. Inciting violence is, but telling someone to go back to their own country doesn't incite violence.
It's hostile, and would be considered hate speech in the UK. And more importantly it's fucking stupid for a nation of immigrants
Not illegal to incite hatred. Inciting violence is, but telling someone to go back to their own country doesn't incite violence.
They're pretty closely related.
It's hostile, and would be considered hate speech in the UK. And more importantly it's fucking stupid for a nation of immigrants
Then the UK has fucking retarded hate speech laws and hardly even have free speech.
They're pretty closely related.
Not really. Hate speech: "We all need to go and murder these fucking towelheads" Free speech: "I hate towelheads and think they should go back to their fucking country" Notice how one incites violence, and one doesn't?
One is threat, one is hate. You mean?
it's illegal to punish someone for their actions while not on school grounds, plain and simple.
You come to a christian country, smarten the fuck up and accept Christian beliefs, holidays and ideals.
There are some Christian beliefs and ideals that shouldn't be accepted. For example, my old high school kept dropping a course because the school board didn't like that it introduced tolerance towards LGBT. The principal of the school also said that if any grade 12 male let the females put them in a dress (I have no idea how that started), they would face suspension just because he sees it as promoting LGBT.
One is threat, one is hate. You mean?
Hate isn't inherently illegal though. Hate speech = threat speech. If it doesn't threaten, it isn't hate speech.
Not illegal to incite hatred. Inciting violence is, but telling someone to go back to their own country doesn't incite violence.

Public incitement of hatred 319. (1) Every one who, by communicating statements in any public place, incites hatred against any identifiable group where such incitement is likely to lead to a breach of the peace is guilty of (a) an indictable offence and is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years; or (b) an offence punishable on summary conviction. Wilful promotion of hatred (2) Every one who, by communicating statements, other than in private conversation, wilfully promotes hatred against any identifiable group is guilty of (a) an indictable offence and is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years; or (b) an offence punishable on summary conviction.

Not really. Hate speech: "We all need to go and murder these fucking towelheads" Free speech: "I hate towelheads and think they should go back to their fucking country" Notice how one incites violence, and one doesn't?
Notice how you're being condescending? You seriously don't think hate speech doesn't incite violence often? Sincerely?
Notice how you're being condescending?
So sue me for condescending speech
a quote
Oh, I though Canada had free speech, I guess I was wrong.
Oh, I though Canada had free speech, I guess I was wrong.

Fundamental freedoms 2. Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms: (a) freedom of conscience and religion; (b) freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication; (c) freedom of peaceful assembly; and (d) freedom of association.
Seems pretty good, but I think I'm forgetting something.
Rights and freedoms in Canada 1. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees the rights and freedoms set out in it subject only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society.
It's an interesting little document.
Oh, I though Canada had free speech, I guess I was wrong.
Implying that America has free speech? That isn't restricted?
Personally, I believe that schools, let alone people have no right to dictate who can say what about religion. If a christian says merry Christmas, suck it up and walk the fuck off. If a Jew says happy Hanukkah, suck it up and deal with it. You come to a christian country, smarten the fuck up and accept Christian beliefs, holidays and ideals. We would do the same for your country. Going on to call them ragheads and such is harsh and discriminatory, saying "Merry Christmas" is a kind gesture and if you don't like it, then get the fuck out of my country or deal with it. Your rights do not give you the ability to dictate what is said and who says it. Jehovah's can go door to door, Muslims can play that loud ass horn, I will say Merry Christmas and you can take that right away over my dead body.
Why do you sound so sadistic when talking about a happy festival. You really have a lot of hate in you.
Implying that America has free speech? That isn't restricted?
It isn't restricted in a fundamentally oppressive and totalitarian fashion, so yes we do have free speech.
