19 and still in High school? Is that normal in Canada?
Victory lap
Oh wait seems this is about Canada :( dumb broken flag thing.
so you're saying, if a kid talks to another student on facebook saying "oh im going to bring a gun to school tomorrow and shoot that one kid" and the student who was told that reports it to the principal, its illegal?
thats a gun threat, like a bomb. it is COMPLETELY different from saying hurtful things
is this girl retarded? just because you have friends that are whatever you say, doesn't justify it. thats like me walking up to my black friends and saying "Whats up n---a"
ok so a person who says nigga in the presence of a black person, and isnt black themselves, is racist?
The United States is not a fucking Christian nation. The founding fathers MADE THIS CLEAR. [editline]11th December 2011[/editline] But she did not deserve to be suspended. "I hate what you say, but I would give my life to let you continue to say it." First amendment bitches. [editline]11th December 2011[/editline] Dude my black friends think it's hilarious when I say nigga. Like I'll clap them up and go "MAH NIGGA!"
Canada bro. although we're not christian too. omega ninja damnit
It's obvious both sides are wrong; 1. Welcome to Canada, a country made up of almost every major and not-so-major culture in the world. Everybody is free to celebrate their culture's holidays and if anybody was offended by "Merry Christmas" or simply reciting the national anthem, you're in the wrong country. 2. Same applies to Natasha of course - I don't know how you could say something like that considering you grow up around so many cultures here, especially you live in any considerably-sized city (including Windsor). I grew up essentially in Toronto until I was three, and ironically it wasn't until we were taught to be accepting of other cultures and races that I actually started noticing other cultures and races. Pretty sure most people here grow up colour/culture-blind, so unless she has a shitty family I don't know why she said what she did.

wow, never thought I'd see my city in this section, but the school was somewhat right in suspending her, although they shouldn't have suspended her unless this was posted while she was on school grounds, or she had done something in the school along these lines, but she wasn't suspended for the christmas bit, she was suspended for the racism, although from what I hear kennedy is a shit school, still, if she hadn't mentioned doing that santa claus thing in the school, I doubt that anything would have happened to her and to those saying shit about first amendment and shit, free speech is protected in canada, hate speech on the other hand is not, so things like the westboro baptist church are not allowed in canada, and I'm quite sure that none of their members are even allowed to enter canada [editline]11th December 2011[/editline]
It isn't restricted in a fundamentally oppressive and totalitarian fashion, so yes we do have free speech.
tell that to the occupy movement [editline]stuff[/editline] also, this is from the windsor star, not a bad newspaper, but its a little on the sensationalist side, they like to skew things to incite a bit of controversy sometimes
ITT: yawmwen doesn't understand Free Speech even though he lives in the United States and thus should have taken an American Government course that goes over the topic. Maybe he isn't in 11th grade yet, or he was just stupid and didn't pay attention.
Wait, since when did people start getting butthurt over saying Merry Christmas?
The latter half somewhat fits.
Wait, since when did people start getting butthurt over saying Merry Christmas?
thats not what its about, its over the racist side of it, if someone were to complain about someone saying merry christmas they would probably be ignored or laughed at, shes lucky that the person reported it to the school instead of taking her to court over the racism bit
She seems to be trying to make out she got suspended for saying Merry Christmas, when it would more likely be the stuff like "back to your (explitive) country" and go round screaming at pakis and towelhead" remarks.
free speech doesn't apply to a school environment
Hate isn't inherently illegal though. Hate speech = threat speech. If it doesn't threaten, it isn't hate speech.
are you retarded
Schools in general need to fuck off of what happens outside their property during school hours.
I think we all just need to exercise tolerance regardless the religion or political view.
she's a stupid cunt but are schools supposed to have the ability to punish you for shit that you do off school grounds? it's kind of unnerving that you should be subject to school rules at all times, even when you aren't IN SCHOOL.
she's a stupid cunt but are schools supposed to have the ability to punish you for shit that you do off school grounds? it's kind of unnerving that you should be subject to school rules at all times, even when you aren't IN SCHOOL.
you still get in trouble with the school even if you aren't on school grounds when you physically bully someone, i don't see why it'd be any different for verbal abuse
School suspending girl over something she said on facebook. GG. [editline]11th December 2011[/editline]
you still get in trouble with the school even if you aren't on school grounds when you physically bully someone, i don't see why it'd be any different for verbal abuse
When it's someone you go to school with, maybe.
I'm sorry guys, I just now realized that free speech is only limited to what the government allows you to say. I forgot that the government knows what is best for me, and I should definitely be punished for my dissent against the mother country.
FUCK THE ONTARIO SCHOOL BOARD /caps Our board is absolutely FUCKED up, all of them, this is the same issue at our school, with our, "Holiday Tree" instead of Christmas Tree, "Festive Assembly" instead of Christmas Assembly Also, Easter eggs are referred to as "Festive Eggs" or "Festive Spheres", not joking. Fuck off, ok yes the Catholic Church (in general, Christian churches) a long time ago were fucked up. But Christian nations founded this country, respect my heritage, bitches.
Take the issue up with your local board if it bothers you that much. My school plays Christmas songs, has posters up that say Merry Christmas and has a "Holiday Assembly", which doesn't really bother me. We don't have a Christmas Tree, but that's more because dickheads would vandalize it than anything. It's interesting that people talk about Canada having no slant religion-wise, considering Ontario has publicly funded Catholic school boards and various other provinces have separate boards for Catholics/Protestants.
I'm sorry guys, I just now realized that free speech is only limited to what the government allows you to say. They're entrenched in a Constitution that cannot be amended and can only be interpreted by the Supreme Court, which has no specific political leaning.
Poor choice of words to get a decent point across.
Too true. I don't think any of our family have even been to a church in the last 10 years bar a few baptisms of some parts of the family, but it's always fun to put up a tree and exchange wrapped gifts.
I'm an athiest, as is some of my family. We still exchange gifts, we participate more into it with goodwill for everyone, no one's left out.
I may just be a Fascist, but she has a point.
Sounds like she went a little overboard there.
"Everybody knows I'm not racist. I have a lot of friends who are Arabic, Pakistani, blacks," I'm not a murderer, lots of my friends are alive.
"Everybody knows I'm not racist. I have a lot of friends who are Arabic, Pakistani, blacks," I'm not a murderer, lots of my friends are alive.
the use of the word 'blacks' as opposed to 'black' just feels really racist in itself
the use of the word 'blacks' as opposed to 'black' just feels really racist in itself
what the fuck is wrong with you what is racist about blacks v black
