I think she should be suspended since she said hate and sounded threatening.
Suspended from school because of something posted on Facebook? What's the sense in that?
I think she should be suspended since she said hate and sounded threatening.
Even if she was threatening someone (she wasn't), that's for the police to deal with. The school should have absolutely nothing to do with it. A school should never be allowed to take action against students for something that happens outside of school.
Eh she deserves it.
For every one of your anecdotes I could find another about how it is indoctrination and all religion classes are presented from a Catholic-centered viewpoint. Not to mention the fact that many schools require a letter from a priest saying that yes, the family and child are actually Catholic and regularly attend church as a condition of acceptance. For many people these schools are the only ones in the area and to avoid having to send their children half a city away for school they're forced to convert to Catholicism. These schools are blatantly discriminatory. Oh, and no, Muslims couldn't set up schools on equal standing. They wouldn't get public funding like Catholic schools do. Either fund them all or pull all funding from Catholic schools. Then again you think the United States is a "Christian country" so I'm expecting this post to fall on deaf ears. (Blind eyes?)
Wait, you have to be catholic to go to a catholic school in Canada? We had muslims, jews and others. I was told I was going to hell by a particularly crazy religion teacher though.
I don't think I know anyone who is Christian.
that's because no self respecting Jew would ever say happy hanukkah. For Christ's sake I'm a Jew with no self respect and even I wouldn't say it
i don't even say happy hanukkah to my family
ITT: People think christmas is a christian holiday
i don't even say happy hanukkah to my family
Really? Shit, I've been saying happy tisha b'av, happy hazikaron and happy hashoah for years ..that really explains the reactions.
Eh she deserves it.
This is just asinine.
ITT: People think christmas is a christian holiday
because it mainly is........
Shit, I've been saying happy tisha b'av, happy hazikaron and happy hashoah for years
i don't think the holocaust memorial day really calls for a happy
Free speech aside, a school should not be policing facebook for shit their students say. It's none of their business. [editline]12th December 2011[/editline] Also, how is this abuse of freedom of speech? Because we don't like what she's saying?
It is abuse of freedom of speech because she was giving a hate speech with racist contents, which as far as I know isn't legal in Canada. I do agree that the school should not have anything to do with this though, since she did not threaten or hurt anybody on her school or during her school.
That's no fucking reason to suspend her, it was a personal comment made on her Facebook. She's expressing her beliefs and last time I checked, Canada was a free country. Still, the whole "Happy Holidays" and "Merry Christmas" thing is pretty much one of the most retarded things ever. Christians flipping shit about political correctness, atheists antagonizing them, all of it's fucking retarded. I'll be heathen over here and not associate with any of you.
I agree with her, but not like as harshly, I think they should harden up and accept other peoples beliefs. What annoys me more is the fact that schools can discipline students for posting facebook statuses that don't agree with their code of conduct.
Meant to rate you agree. Fucking iPod.
Meant to rate you agree. Fucking iPod.
So just change it...
Schools should have no control over what you say on the internet, ever.
i don't think the holocaust memorial day really calls for a happy
I thought I was just pronouncing the words wrong oops
In Ontario, Catholic schools are funded by tax dollars That's right, non-Catholics are forced to support the religious indoctrination of children even if they don't choose to send their children there Stop acting like you're oppressed
While it's true that the Catholic school system is supported by taxpayers, you choose which system to pay taxes for.
Even if she was threatening someone (she wasn't), that's for the police to deal with. The school should have absolutely nothing to do with it. A school should never be allowed to take action against students for something that happens outside of school.
For some reason where I live, schools are allowed to dictate our entire lives. We're told that their jurisdiction starts when we leave our homes for school, and ends when we go back home from school. If a fight is planned at school but happens elsewhere, they still get in trouble. They stalk everyone's Facebook pages and many people have gotten suspended for things said on there. Also if something is said on Facebook you don't like, you can report it to the school. Heck if you get in trouble in any way shape or form, regardless of where it happens, the school is almost guaranteed to take action as well if they know about it. (They're not very concerned with that silly freedom of speech thing). They were doing it before this law passed, but now just having a Facebook the school knows about is a danger.
Accept other people for their believes unless they're shoving it down your throat.
When it comes to a school's code of conduct, Scantlebury said that, "as with the law, ignorance is not an excuse."
This is bullshit. "What's that, you didn't know we could suspend you for something you posted on Facebook? We didn't tell you we could? Too fucking bad."
It's funny how Christmas brings out so much bigotry in people, it's the time of the year ay :v:?
Natasha Burge seems like kind of an idiot. "Everyone knows I'm not racist" and yet she said the word "towelhead." So what's racist in her book? Personally, I would love being wished a happy holiday, even if I didn't celebrate it necessarily.
Racism is the belief that a race is inferior to another race, I don't see how pointing out that their people wear towels on their head is racism.
Personally, I believe that schools, let alone people have no right to dictate who can say what about religion. If a christian says merry Christmas, suck it up and walk the fuck off. If a Jew says happy Hanukkah, suck it up and deal with it. You come to a christian country, smarten the fuck up and accept Christian beliefs, holidays and ideals. We would do the same for your country. Going on to call them ragheads and such is harsh and discriminatory, saying "Merry Christmas" is a kind gesture and if you don't like it, then get the fuck out of my country or deal with it. Your rights do not give you the ability to dictate what is said and who says it. Jehovah's can go door to door, Muslims can play that loud ass horn, I will say Merry Christmas and you can take that right away over my dead body.
christian country? are you joking
christian country? are you joking
No, I'm not. Look at the anthem, look at our holidays. If you think for a second any other beliefs have a stronger foothold in our country your misinformed or blind.
Why are people still on this thread?
Why are people still on this thread?
Presumably to read it.
I agree completely. It's not fair how some people like to celebrate christmas then 1 jehovas witness freaks the fuck out and ruins it for everyone.
No, I'm not. Look at the anthem, look at our holidays. If you think for a second any other beliefs have a stronger foothold in our country your misinformed or blind.
It wasn't founded as a christian nation, what the hell are you saying? and "Christmas" is barely even Christian anymore, you know. I celebrate it because of family, saying most people do it because of Jesus and that's their only reason is just dumb.
