I'm actually with Microsoft and Apple on this one, however neither of those companies have presented anything that surpasses flash as a web multimedia standard. HTML 5 works I guess but I've grown to like the idea of working on interactive applications outside of a browser.

Google isn't defending flash at all. If anything, they're probably for HTML5 and open standards instead of proprietary software.
