Well considering microsoft employees even call Windows 8 "the new vista," this might actually be the case.
that could also be under the pretense that people formed extreme biases against vista after its initial release, as a result of the (new at the time) phenomenon of internet-age hearsay. despite a massive majority the platform's issues being fixed a service pack later, views didn't shift and their flagship product was eternally backed into a corner for reasons that can be largely be summed up as spiteful ignorance. I and everyone else still think shit would change ten-fold if they just gave into demands for the optional previous style start menu
Did I accidentally fall out of the Windows 8 is good universe, because I must be the only person in the world that actually prefers Windows 8 to 7.
I enjoy Windows 8, I have no problems with it, I paid $15 for Windows 8 Pro when it first came out so I saw no reason to at least not pick it up since it was cheap. Apart from GFWL shit its perfect, I have a start menu and I use metro to check my email, look at news and weather and stuff since it has those apps.
that could also be under the pretense that people formed extreme biases against vista after its initial release and the newer phenomenon of internet-age hearsay, despite a massive majority the platform's issues being fixed a service pack later. It's a flagship product backed into a corner for reasons that can be largely be summed up as spiteful ignorance.
spiteful ignorance on microsoft's part perhaps. they designed an operating system meant for tablets and tried to make it work with a mouse and keyboard. everybody hates it because it's not natural to use a mouse/keyboard like that. you could say they could just make metro optional but then what benefits does it bring over windows 7, except for potential performance upgrades (which really isn't that high priority for the average consumer anyway)
"If you din't like Windows 8 you're just stobborn and dumb! Try Windows 8"
but that is basically exactly what it boils down to? the argument for 7 over 8 is essentially "i dont want to bother getting accustomed to a new thing" even though, other than metro, the only thing that's different about 8 is shutting down the pc is a slightly different movement metro is a superior system for organising a start menu. it's all the best hallmarks of minimalism and is so easy to customise and simplify with just 30 seconds of effort to be perfect for your personal needs. metro and the w8 desktop work much better with multiscreen setups too here is my metro start menu: everything i ever use, easily organised into 3 categories that are roughly equatable to "stuff", "work stuff", and "game stuff" what's not to like. for me, that is so much better than an endless list of thousands of programs that is really really slow and unintuitive to clean up but nope it's terrible because touch-screens, tablets, minimalism, and change are the boogeymen that conservative nerds love to demonise
One thing I don't get with Windows 8. Why didn't Microsoft make Metro replace the desktop, but still have the superbar? Then instead of the start menu, you can have all the same functions in the form of charms.
Whether you like the new interface or not, this is so misleading that I'm awed that you managed to put together that post at all.
k good point can I also semi-indirectly call you a complete moron and not get banned for flaming? Fucking people defending windows 8 instantly grasp at the "ur dumm" card.
If you love ant-sized icons, they come in a taskbar-sized flavour directly on the Metro start screen.
Where? The only thing I see is smaller/larger version, and the small version is still huge. If I can get desktop icon sized icons then that's news to me because I'm not going to search through the settings to find it.
but that is basically exactly what it boils down to? the argument for 7 over 8 is essentially "i dont want to bother getting accustomed to a new thing" even though, other than metro, the only thing that's different about 8 is shutting down the pc is a slightly different movement metro is a superior system for organising a start menu. it's all the best hallmarks of minimalism and is so easy to customise and simplify with just 30 seconds of effort to be perfect for your personal needs. metro and the w8 desktop work much better with multiscreen setups too here is my metro start menu: everything i ever use, easily organised into 3 categories that are roughly equatable to "stuff", "work stuff", and "game stuff" what's not to like. for me, that is so much better than an endless list of thousands of programs that is really really slow and unintuitive to clean up but nope it's terrible because touch-screens, tablets, minimalism, and change are the boogeymen that conservative nerds love to demonise
And one of the biggest complaints is "No start menu", which is just stupid since you can get a program to put it back. Yea it sucks that you have to do it but once you do it its basically a slightly newer looking 7. And metro is not that bad, I thought it would just suck but once I started using it I found out its not as bad as I thought it would be. Yea its more meant for fingers to use it but I personally like how you can just have what you want on it like what you did Chesty.
but nope it's terrible because touch-screens, tablets, minimalism, and change are the boogeymen that conservative nerds love to demonise
Did you just try to use the term "nerds" in a demeaning tone? I'm sorry, I didn't realize anyone could make complex software.

The small is about desktop sized. [t]http://u.cubeupload.com/assassinraptor/cnfvnn.png[/t] You right click the tile and at the bottom there is resize and then some options on size. Its not that hard. [t]http://u.cubeupload.com/assassinraptor/uB1fO9.png[/t]
I'd like to say that the start menu was pretty shitty in Windows 7, at least to me I never used that. And that it is basically back without the programs on the side by right clicking the windows icon. But I don't really care if you don't like Windows 8 because it is just a small performance boost that I got for basically free so w/e
k good point can I also semi-indirectly call you a complete moron and not get banned for flaming? Fucking people defending windows 8 instantly grasp at the "ur dumm" card.
Yeah, I'm sorry, I might be a bit of an ass.
Where? The only thing I see is smaller/larger version, and the small version is still huge. If I can get desktop icon sized icons then that's news to me because I'm not going to search through the settings to find it.
Windows 8.1 comes with "Small, Medium, Large" - you're still on Windows 8.0, get with the times old man. Still, I don't personally use them since I find the larger ones to be much more useful.
spiteful ignorance on microsoft's part perhaps. they designed an operating system meant for tablets and tried to make it work with a mouse and keyboard. everybody hates it because it's not natural to use a mouse/keyboard like that. you could say they could just make metro optional but then what benefits does it bring over windows 7, except for potential performance upgrades (which really isn't that high priority for the average consumer anyway)
yes that is what I was saying it brings a ton of benefits other than metro, the OS isn't exclusively your start menu. I say this time and time again though: • buying 8 isn't really worth it as an upgrade to 7 because it's not that big a deal. It's ok if you want it. • Buying it over anything else is well worth it. • Getting it for free with a new computer is a great deal • People who only buy a new computer because HP is offering w7 prebuilts aren't BAD but it's still an awful decision given the choice • People who actually go out of their way to install 7 on a new machine that came with 8 are fucking idiots, especially if their excuse for wasting a ton of time and potentially re-buying 7 is "I don't want to spend $10 on third party software to get a start menu when it should be standard" [editline]20th January 2014[/editline] and like godong says, if you have 8 you absolutely need to install 8.1. after using vanilla 8 before upgrading a laptop I realized how much they've improved it.
but that is basically exactly what it boils down to? the argument for 7 over 8 is essentially "i dont want to bother getting accustomed to a new thing" even though, other than metro, the only thing that's different about 8 is shutting down the pc is a slightly different movement metro is a superior system for organising a start menu. it's all the best hallmarks of minimalism and is so easy to customise and simplify with just 30 seconds of effort to be perfect for your personal needs. metro and the w8 desktop work much better with multiscreen setups too here is my metro start menu: everything i ever use, easily organised into 3 categories that are roughly equatable to "stuff", "work stuff", and "game stuff" what's not to like. for me, that is so much better than an endless list of thousands of programs that is really really slow and unintuitive to clean up but nope it's terrible because touch-screens, tablets, minimalism, and change are the boogeymen that conservative nerds love to demonise
Good for you. No one said you can't like Metro. Just because you like it doesn't mean other people have to. How do you not get this? I've used Windows 8, I used it for 3 months in fact and I hated every minute of it. I've had my start menu organised so that I can reach any part of my PC instantly since I was 12, I'm not going to change how I organise shit because some designer at Microsoft decided they liked tablet interfaces. I also love how you people automatically use the same fucking arguments every time. "You're just resistant to change." No shit, I'm resistant to stupid changes that fuck with my work flow. Change isn't inherently a good thing.
Why is it in every Windows 8 thread the supporters of Windows 8 feel the need to insult people when trying to get them to use it? "If you din't like Windows 8 you're just stobborn and dumb! Try Windows 8" "Get with the times OLD MAN! Use Windows 8. You're not my real dad!" How about fuck off. Metro is a fucking terrible system, I don't give a shit if you like it, I hate it.
And there are people like you who shit down people who like metro? You're entitled to your opinion. But don't tell others that they can't insult others when you do the exact same. Hypocrite.
And there are people like you who shit down people who like metro? You're entitled to your opinion. But don't tell others that they can't insult others when you do the exact same. Hypocrite.
I don't insult people for liking Metro, I call out people who use bullshit arguments like: "You're just resistant to change, get with the times!" - Change is not inherently a good thing. "It runs faster!" - It runs 1-3% faster, nothing an average user would notice. "You just haven't used it"/"You didn't give it a proper chance" - As though the only way you can't like W8 is if you haven't used it. Completely false. "The boot times are so quick." - Because boot time is SUCH an important thing, and who doesn't love having a 10GB page file?
It's prettier but less practical unless you have a tablet. I have a laptop with touchpad, so making the start screen full-screen simply makes the transition more jarring and increases the distance I have to move the mouse between icons. And that's rubbish. There was a mockup some guy did of a start menu that only covered the left half of the screen. That would be so much better already.
well then right click instead
I don't insult people for liking Metro, I call out people who use bullshit arguments like: "You're just resistant to change, get with the times!" - Change is not inherently a good thing.
Then stop writing "Windows 8 supporters" and write "idiots" instead, because you're generalizing a whole lot people right there.
If I call them idiots then they act like babies and say "Well if you can't make an argument without insulting people blah blah blah." I don't have a problem with people liking Windows 8. I just have a problem with people how act like Apple fanboys when they talk about Windows 8.
If I call them idiots then they act like babies and say "Well if you can't make an argument without insulting people blah blah blah." There are people who like either OS and are vocal about it, and people who don't like either OS and are vocal about it. Can we all just agree that what Windows 8 brings isn't worth it to the average person?
How about fuck off. Metro is a fucking terrible system, I don't give a shit if you like it, I hate it.
Well i guess this will never go anywhere because Metro is a huge improvement to the Start system, I don't give a shit if you hate it, I like it.
Well i guess this will never go anywhere because Metro is a huge improvement to the Start system, I don't give a shit if you hate it, I like it.
That's fine, but you can't use "I like Metro" as an argument to convince people who don't like Metro, and calling them dumb, or old fashioned, or whatever isn't going to convince them to agree with you.
That's fine, but you can't use "I like Metro" as an argument to convince people who don't like Metro, and calling them dumb, or old fashioned, or whatever isn't going to convince them to agree with you.
I didn't call anybody dumb. I also refrained by telling people off, which is more than I can say for you. The fact that you are even speaking out to question an argument tactic that is no more than a mocking of your own argument tactics is literally astounding btw.

I meant you say Metro is a better system because it works for you, however that wont convince someone like me who can't stand Metro. Separately, the people who insult those who don't like Metro are acting like Apple fanboys and driving people against their opinion.
Even though I run and enjoy Windows 8 I have to say the sudden killing off of 7 was stupid. Windows 7 is a great, popular, and stable operating system. Microsoft really shot themselves in the foot for trying to kill off its most popular product. Good move on HP's part.
That's fine, but you can't use "I like Metro" as an argument to convince people who don't like Metro, and calling them dumb, or old fashioned, or whatever isn't going to convince them to agree with you.
your argument right now is pretty holier-than-thou for being the guy who started the thread out with "fuck off, I don't care about others opinions"

Get real.
You can't disable vsync on windows 8 - the only reason why i don't use it ^ Mine is probably the most unpopular opinion ever :v:
I don't have any clue where this rumor came from because you totally can.
http://glass8.berlios.de/
Welp, nothing stops me from using W8 then. Gonna use in on my new laptop when I'll buy it in next month.
"you're dumb and call people who don't like metro dumb" is pretty holier-than-thou, coming from the guy who started the thread out with "fuck off, I don't care about others opinions"
I actually said I don't care if people like Metro. Whether you like Metro or not is irrelevant to someone who doesn't like it. You liking it wont convince people who don't like it and neither will insulting those people. My first post was in response to BCell calling those who don't like Metro "cranky old [people] who hate change". The fuck off was referring to arguments that people who don't like Metro are dumb for not liking Metro.
