I don't mind this, really. DVDs and physical media in general are antiquated
The problem is that it's now 8 dollars a month to get DVD's, and you can only have 1 at a time whereas I believe you could have up to 3 at a time, and while there are a bunch of shows and movies on instant, there are much more that you need to get a DVD if you want to watch, so overall this sucks.
If they would make all the movies on both DVD and streaming, it would be that much better, but they way they are doing it now forces you to pay 16$/month if you want to watch them all. Well you could only do DVD and get all the movies, but who the fuck seriously wants only DVD's. I love(d) Netflix for the streaming because I am impatient, even though they have like fucking no good streaming movies or shows anymore, everything keeps getting to DVD only. Fuckers.
I really don't think you Americans realise how lucky you are or how cheap your quality of life is compared to a lot of other developed, western countries.
I'd fucking LOVE to be able to pay $15 a month for unlimited streaming and DVDs and to have internet plans with no data cap for cheap.
You guys have it incredibly good so stop complaining so damn much and enjoy what you have.

I know Australia and NZ are pretty bad for internet, but how bad is it actually? Do you get like 5mbit for 100$ a month or something? It can't be all that bad.

My plan has a 100GB data cap, costs something like 90 or 100 AUD per month (which is about 95-105 USD). We're on a fibre line so in theory we can get 100Mbps, but it never quite works out that way because other people are on the same line, so in reality we hit between like 10 and 20Mbps.

Are complaining is one of the things that keep it so cheap. I mean I bet you would complain if water bottles rose to 3$ each but just because its 4$ in Africa doesn't somehow make your bottles any less expensive.

Bottles of water ARE $3 each over here!

And, considering that people in this country get paid less and our cost of living is MUCH higher, then comparatively anything we buy IS much more expensive.
UPDATE: Redbox, which offers movies at $1 apiece for each night checked out, "now has more than 27,000 locations that are within a five minute drive of 60 percent of the U.S. population," shared with us comments from its public Facebook wall that seemed to confirm at least some possible migration from Facebook to Redbox.
I must be in the 40% that doesn't, I have never seen a Redbox.
I love it when people get pissed over things like this and call them greedy.
Just makes them look stupid.

Netflix is a business. Businesses exist primarily to make money, making them greedy by nature.

Without complaining there would be nothing to stop them from doing what ever they want.

I'm not saying complaining isn't good. Besides, jacking the prices further and further isn't even possible because they'll hurt themselves. I'm just saying the whole 'gurrr, they're greedy, gurr' argument is just plain stupid.

When they say a company is greedy they mean they are raising the price for no other reason then to increase profits instead of doing so because it cost more to do there service. Its just easier to call them greedy.
8 dollars really isn't that bad for me. I just finished watching season 1 of Camelot (Good TV Show)
And really, I only stream movies. So I'm not affected.
For about 2 months now, my only words when someone brings up Netflix, is simply "Fuck Netflix".
And to think that I was just recently considering checking Netflix out since my friends kept telling me it was so great...
And to think that I was just recently considering checking Netflix out since my friends kept telling me it was so great...
It WAS.
so basically instead of paying $8(?) a month for both services, you pay $8(?) a month per service? who uses dvd's anyway?

how do you know they aren't raising prices because of the price of the service?
what if they have plans to get streaming for major movie studios and need the extra dosh
I've never used Netflix, seems like only a slightly smaller ripoff than Blockbuster.
I'm okay with this, we only get streaming up in canada anyway.
I'm okay with this, we only get streaming up in canada anyway.
Yeah, though we don't get their entire library yet. I doubt they'll pull anything like this, find a way to separate the library into something exclusive you have to pay more for.
redbox is better

In their blog, netflix said they're splitting the package in two is because they (suspicious quotes here) "dvd's were a $2 addon to the 7.99 unlimited streaming"
Basically they're splitting it into 2 cheaper packages in hopes that you'll need both and basically pay twice

Yeah, in no way does this help the customer. Basically to continue having the same functionality as I currently have I will have to pay double and not gain a single thing in return. Its fine though I will help support my local blockbuster on their rebound.
it's stil pretty cheap anyways
it's stil pretty cheap anyways
Not for me now, I only watch 3 or 4 movies from a dvd each month and the streaming in its current state is virtually useless.
Good thing I cancelled my subscription to try out Gamefly.
Too bad gamefly also sucks and takes about a week to send my games and another week to receive them despite the fact I live within 100 Miles of the nearest shipping center.
