waitwaitwait, DP supports up to 4k at 60fps but HDMI can't? that's why there's two of those ports on my monitor?
the newest DP can go all the way up to 8k HDMI 2.0b can get 4k 60fps, I'm using it to shitpost as we speak. Also regarding the max resolution of DVI, you need to make sure you get an authentic dual link cable to get the most out of it, a lot of them sold online have the DVI-D ends but aren't wired for it
I know displayport is the future and all that but does anyone actually own a monitor with a DP input? It's been around for years but it still hasn't been widely adopted. Why put three displayports with only one HDMI, the most widely adopted output standard ever?
HP, LG, BenQ and Dell all use it in their mid tier to high tier stuff and have for at least 5 years now. Like DVI it probably will take 10 to hit cheap shit
I got the 1080 when it came out, specifically for the Vive. I didn't even know the Vive supported DisplayPort, I just have all of my monitors on DP and the Vive on HDMI. Apart from some weird issues with hot plugging, DP has been great.
does displayport still have the issue that the monitor gets disabled/disconnected in windows if you turn off the power
does displayport still have the issue that the monitor gets disabled/disconnected in windows if you turn off the power
I don't have this issue with my DP 1.3 monitor.
This is nonsense. If I had a Vive and a GTX 1080, I still wouldn't have changed out my monitor which doesn't have DP. It works just fine with DVI.
I guess if you already have a 1440p high hrz monitor or whatever that just doesn't have DP i understand but i can't imagine not thinking about upgrading your monitor if everything else was best of the best. It's arguable the most primary way you interact with your computer.
does displayport still have the issue that the monitor gets disabled/disconnected in windows if you turn off the power
I have a DP monitor which did have this issue, but simply plugging it into a different display port fixed it and it hasn't had it since for me.

(some 4K IPS stuff for editing)
More professional monitors use it, my Dells have it.
If you have a monitor that has a refresh rate over 120hz you need a display port cable or dual link dvi cable in order to utilize it. Display port also supports higher resolutions than HDMI and Dual link Dvi but it'll be awhile before everyone moves above 2k anyway. HDMI currently supports a maximum resolution of 2560×1600 at 120hz while Dvi supports also supports a maximum resolution of 2560 × 1600 at 144 Hz being that Dvi and HDMI are almost the same besides HDMI carrying audio while Dvi doesn't and Dvi can also go up to 144hz. Display port supports a resolution of up to 3,840×2,160 at 60 FPS. [editline]7th July 2016[/editline]
I got the 1080 when it came out, specifically for the Vive. Display port is much easier to plug in and takes less time then DVI though. As far as HDMI goes there the same for me plug in wise.
I have a 1080 and my only complaint is the lack of HDMI. More HDMI is all I really want. Everything I have uses HDMI so I have to rig everything together with a fuck ton of splitters.
