Actual competition of a large retail chain is different from your grandad's corner store.
Just saying.
im fine with having it go to around 40% but when it gets to the point where the top 1% pay over half of the nations tax quotas then it gets a bit embarrassing
If you make 8 figures a year you can afford to pay upwards of 50+% income tax
I'm not saying bump the 250k bracket up to 70%, I'm saying add more brackets
I'm looking at it this way. Shit, I forgot what I was going to say.
Oh, I remember.
It seems the biggest proponents of tax cuts for the wealthy all have selfish interests in mind.
Good. Now when I become rich I don't have to pay more just because I was more successful than others.
On the other hand, those who don't want taxes for the wealthy to be cut are thinking not of themselves, but of the general welfare of the populace.
Poor people tend to support the "little guy" more than the rich. Someone in the poor - middle class range will likely shop at the corner store, farmer's market, buy a used car, etc. This helps the economy.
The super rich keep their money with other rich people; ordering crates of caviar, special ordering a diamond-studded Lexus, so forth. This does jack shit for the economy.
Sorry, but no. You're right on the used car part, but poor people are the people spending their money at places like walmart and costco cause it's too expensive to shop at the mom & pop stores.

GameStop and Starbucks both bought competing chains.
Wal-Mart and a local supermarket don't compete.

Bill Gates currently pays very little in the way of income tax, as he's retired. Yes, he's spending much of his wealth on charity, but, not to sound selfish, that is providing no benefit to the American economy or the American people. You guys say that tax cuts encourage the wealthy to "create jobs"? How'd that work out for you under Reagan?
Why do you guys care if some guy is paying slightly less than they used to be in taxes?
Chances are the people are still paying 100x more than you are. Yeah, they have a bunch of money, but that doesn't mean they should have to give half their check to the government.
And no, I'm not rich nor am I in a rich family. We're lower class, live paycheck to paycheck. I deliver pizzas for a living. I just happen to be a rational individual. No one should have to pay more than anyone else. At the end of the day we all have an equal stake in this country.
Flat income tax is fair. Plain and simple.
Why?
1. The rich provide jobs.
2. Most rich people worked hard to get where they are.
3. The rich pay extremely high taxes (higher percentages than poor and middle class people) and make up by far most of the income taxes paid in the US.
Rich people provide the foundation for the US economy, benefiting the rich will benefit the economy (because the rich power the economy). Some people need to get over their "anti-rich freedom fighter" mentality that they got from watching too many movies. If you don't like the concept of rich and poor people, and working hard to get ahead in life, move to a communist nation and let us know how that works out for you.
inb4 clueless people call me rich

im saying that once you begin taking away half the income of someone earning 10 million a year, the next time we decide to hike up the taxes, people making 7 figures are at jepoardy, then the people with 6 figs
Sorry, but no. You're right on the used car part, but poor people are the people spending their money at places like walmart and costco cause it's too expensive to shop at the mom & pop stores.

hey im poor and i shop at places that help my fellow poor person.
Then I highly doubt you are poor. and news flash buddy. Poor people don't own businesses. You're just helping rich locals.

Well poor people on welfare aren't likely to be doing much shopping at a Costco, but you're right about Walmart
And speaking dollar-for-dollar, the government is much more effective than an average charity. The American Red Cross, for example, spends $123,700,000 dollars a year on fundraising. Collecting taxes requires no fundraisers. That's $123,700,000 a year that can be directly spent helping people.

I have and its from a corporation that hires a lot of other people.

Or if you just set taxes to a good amount now you wouldn't need to hike them again. In fact, as the deficit shrunk, more jobs became available, and more people began to enter the upper brackets, you'd gradually be able to lower them.
Well poor people on welfare aren't likely to be doing much shopping at a Costco, but you're right about Walmart
True, I remember for a short while, we were on food stamps and went every now and then cause you could get some good deals in bulk though.
But your point stands, it's not typical.

If my money was being chewed by high taxes, I would create a business by hiring some immigrants or importing chinese goods. Locals require high wages which is not worth it
Flat income tax is fair. Plain and simple.
no it aint. If my mothers income tax went up by just a little she would not have a house while a rich for a rich person it would not really make a difference

You are a maroon.
They don't give "half their paycheck" to the government. All your income over $250,000 would be taxed at 39% instead of 35% if the Bush tax cuts are allowed to expire.

Now think about how much money the government spends in the process of collecting taxes and pursuing tax dodgers.

The largest demographic of hard-working but non-wealthy people I can think of off-hand are farmers, and they don't seem the type to shop at big box stores.

What makes the rich person responsible for your mother?
I don't know what you're talking about, my family is very poor and we spend as little as possible. We do not support the "little guy" or any junk, we just buy whatever is cheaper.

Sorry for being a, "maroon." for exaggerating, but my point still stands. You didn't even directly argue with the point I was making, you just called me a moron because I think the tax cut is fine.
