France isn't lax. You need a sporting or hunting licence to own a firearm. They're not easy to get.
Hence the to some degree part. Sure they won't sell you a gun that easily, but it's still far away from calling it a gun ban.
Seriously though, don't try and tell us what gun-ownership means to us when you obviously haven't the slightest interest in it yourself. If you want to live in a nanny-state that dictates your every purchase and action for the betterment of the community because of a tiny minority of incidents feel free, but stop trying to convince us that we should have to do the same.
I used to belong to a shoot club and used to shoot at a competition level. I was also tempted to buy a Lee-Enfield earlier this year. So stop with the strawmen, they're getting tiring.
You know a lot of us have valid reasons for wanting to own guns, you know, like self-defense?
You must be feeling impotent.
Science?
Is that why he singled out obama and mentioned "poor legislation" like the kind Democrats are trying to push right now? Either way his argument is the same old shit pushed by people on the right to shut up any kind of debate on the issue. How long will we have to wait until debating gun control is kosher? Newtown was 3 months ago.
I singled out Obama because he wants to say "shame on us" if we forget the Newtown victims. He is trying to keep the emotional rollercoster going and guilt trip people in to giving up their rights. I don't give a flying fuck what your stance is on guns, pro or not. What they're proposing is not going to do shit. It is a colossal waste of time, money and effort and it will only fuck over law abiding citizens. The only way to stop gun violence is find out the cause of it. Find the problem, gun violence is merely a symptom of an on going disease that this country has. Go look at heavily urban areas - why are people doing what they're doing? Its a combination of socioeconomic factors, environment, education, etc. Instead of just out right banning shit (which ironically half these political figures don't even know what the purpose and function is.) You could literally pass every bill they want regarding guns and it would not change the homicide rate in certain areas. Because you're not addressing the problem...
Some jackass was defending the civilian ownership of explosive anti-materiel rifles last time I tried to post in a gun-related thread. I'm sorry, dude, whoever you are, but there is no good reason at all for a civilian to own a 25mm high-explosive AM sniper rifle.
The reason boils down to why the fuck not. It's not like someone will try to mug you with a 2m long cannon, or try to shoot up a school with one. Heck, I've never even heard of a single crime involving one of these.
Don't worry Zeke, after they get the guns, they'll come after other scape-goats too, like videogames, or the internet.
Let me know when I can go to a garage sale and pick up a video game capable of killing someone without a background check or ID
I used to belong to a shoot club and used to shoot at a competition level.
...in England. You chaps don't get any of the fun stuff, of course you wouldn't understand what it's like to have and shoot one.
You must be feeling impotent.
Oh, this again?
Since the UK is the most restrictive EU country in this regard, I mean "pretty much all the other ones".
Afaik gun laws are pretty strict in general here in the EU. Sure, you can get guns for hunting and such here in Denmark, but it requires some dedication if I'm not totally wrong. We don't have a gun culture here in Denmark either, so it's really a complete non-issue.
You're all wrong. Guns are part of the problem. Adam Lanza was NRA certified for christ sake Although i dont give half a shit about mag size or babykiller polymer ASSAULT TOOLS OF 9/11 PROPORTION, we ABSOLUTELY need comprehensive background checks. Yes then it will largen the black market a bit, but these killers BARELY if ever obtained their gun illegaly, and I'd even go as far as to say The fact that it's so easy to legally obtain a firearm in their mental state is what encourages them to kill.
No, he wasn't. There was an NRA certification in the home. That means it could be his mother's, too. And besides, do you even know what the certification was for? Because nobody has said what. It's not like the NRA teaches you room clearing tactics.
...in England. You chaps don't get any of the fun stuff, of course you wouldn't understand what it's like to have and shoot one.
I've shot: A couple lee-enfield variants .22 and fullbore. L85 L86 L98 even a FN MAG once and some Kalashnikov Oh and some rocket launched flare Is this another strawman?
The reason boils down to why the fuck not. It's not like someone will try to mug you with a 2m long cannon, or try to shoot up a school with one. Put more firepower in the hands of jackasses like that? Why the fuck not.
8000 people die per year from guns in the US, and not even all of those are homicides. To put that into perspective, that's 8000/313,914,040 a year. Pretty trivial if you ask me, a necessary evil. If they take away the guns, how would the citizens form a militia against any future tyrannical government?
Remember the guy who cut a hole in the flatbed of his truck and started taking people out with a sniper rifle? Put more firepower in the hands of jackasses like that? Why the fuck not.
No, I don't. Please refresh my memory. And also tell me about how he didn't break any laws doing this, and that is why we need laws.
I've shot: A couple lee-enfield variants .22 and fullbore.
Remember the guy who cut a hole in the flatbed of his truck and started taking people out with a sniper rifle? Put more firepower in the hands of jackasses like that? Why the fuck not.
And yet, big-ass rifles and other BFGs are available in the US with the only restriction being a hefty price and a NFA background check, yet this sort of firepower has hardly ever been used in any sort of crime.
Shot, or actually owned? It's a fundamental difference here...
It truly must be a life affirming experience not to feel impotent any more.
a hefty price and a NFA background check, yet this sort of firepower has hardly ever been used in any sort of crime.
Must be working.
How about because its fucking cool?
I will never, never understand why the ownership of military-grade ordnance by civilians should be justified because "WHY NOT LOL". 'Fucking cool'? Are you serious? Anyone with that attitude shouldn't be let anywhere near a gun. They aren't toys.

lol obama exploiting a national tragedy for political gains what a fucking twat
lol obama exploiting a national tragedy for political gains what a fucking twat
Lurk more.
'Fucking cool'? Are you serious? Anyone with that attitude shouldn't be let anywhere near a gun. They aren't toys.
if gun debates on Facepunch have taught me anything it's how utterly terrifying some people with guns can actually seem over the internet.
in 2011 there were 32,163 total gun deaths in the United States http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr61/nvsr61_06.pdf
of those gun deaths how many were from fully automatic rifles? i think the solution is obvious: make all handguns illegal and all assault rifles legal since having a gun be concealable is 1000x more useful than having it full auto when committing a violent crime
It truly must be a life affirming experience not to feel impotent any more.
Well if someone were to enter my house to steal my shit and/or harm my family, I wouldn't be powerless to stop them at this point. Plus I get to maintain my own gun, see how it works, etc. Without this part, being a gun enthusiast is boring as hell. You don't really get the point of gun ownership, do you.
Must be working.
Yes, it's available on civilian markets and it still isn't a problem. I say it works pretty well.
I will never, never understand why the ownership of military-grade ordnance by civilians should be justified because "WHY NOT LOL". 'Fucking cool'? Are you serious? Anyone with that attitude shouldn't be let anywhere near a gun. They aren't toys.
Thinking a gun is "fucking cool" and having a safe attitude with guns aren't mutually exclusive.
I will never, never understand why the ownership of military-grade ordnance by civilians should be justified because "WHY NOT LOL". 'Fucking cool'? Are you serious? Anyone with that attitude shouldn't be let anywhere near a gun. They aren't toys.
Congrats, just because I have an opinion that doesn't agree with yours I am a complete and utter child near guns. I think high powered rifles are cool therefor I think they're toys. That is totally a proper connection to make.
Well if someone were to enter my house to steal my shit and/or harm my family, I wouldn't be powerless to stop them at this point.
So it is potency you seek?

Anyone with that attitude shouldn't be let anywhere near a gun. They aren't toys.
How about "It's fucking cool and I'm not going to use it for nefarious purposes" then?
