That's a point, it probably doesn't say who can change it
Most contracts say that the provider of basically can change charges whenever they want for any or no reason.
If the contract says that what stops the customer from changing the contract
Peoples ignorance towards the contract they're signing. They just sign it, and not even read it.
Peoples ignorance towards the contract they're signing. They just sign it, and not even read it.
To be honest I've never seen a cell phone contract before. Are you bound to their specific plans or can you negotiate your own contract with them?
To be honest I've never seen a cell phone contract before. Are you bound to their specific plans or can you negotiate your own contract with them?
There is specific plans, but there is negotiable plans. I have a smartphone, so immediately they tacked on $25 because it requires the data package (at the time, I got the data unlimited with AT&T). But you can still pick and choose features and how many minutes you got on the plan. And the contract is actually very small, only about 2 pages iirc. I always request for it when signing a contract. I think you, and everyone should too. Don't sign anything unless you are 100% aware on what you're signing into.
I use my iPhone for internet browsing constantly, would they really be able to tell if I did it on a laptop instead? I'm on an unlimited data plan so I was planning to start tethering it soon but this is just lame
It depends. Mobile apps and browsers are usually set to only request data that is optimized for mobile platforms. AT&T can probably see which kinds of requests are being sent aswell (but don't quote me on that) and then they just have to look at the communication protocols used to tell wether its coming from a mobile app or a computer. I'm not too informed on tethering though so for all I know they might just be guessing.
I don't understand why they charge for data (a non solid object) when they pay the same amount to keep their servers up anyhoo, while others will do this for free/a lot less. Fucktarded business scheme.

Moneyloving bastards.
They charge for data because thats what you're using, data. You're using their cell towers.
We're using their cell towers regardless of how much we pay for it.
We're using their cell towers regardless of how much we pay for it.
your point is what then? constantly charge you because your phone is connected to the cell tower?
There is a way to beat them. I'm doing it right now. Att doesnt recognize the nokia n97 as a smart phone and therefore gives me unlimited text for $15.00 a month. You see, this phone was never carried by them when it came out 3 yrs ago and they were basically ignorant of it. Let me tell you.. .this phone was way ahead of its time then and still is. I have.a brand new android top of the line phone and.the nokia is way.better. Anyway, thats a matter of choice but if you.want a 48gb phone that can use Joikuspot and do everything these new phones do plus more and not want to pay by the gig, it may be one way to go. Just by an unlocked n97 and ask att for the sim card. You dont have to gives them your imei number and they cant tell what phone you have. The other day I put my sim in my android and they tryed to up my plan. I called and said I was just trying it and made them put it back. The guy had no idea what my other phone had been for the past 5 years and when he asked me I made up some fake name. He didnt even blink..just put the account back...because he cant see it anyway.
Thanks for the.heads up.
No problem. Before all this smartphone shit came out I had 3 nokias.. The n95, n96,, and n97. The n97 was advertised at the time as the most advanced smartphone. Att saw all 3 as the same phone. They never even knew I switched phones.
Guys guys, you don't get it. They're not doing it because there's something wrong with tethering or that it costs more to maintain or anything. They're doing it because it's a way to get additional $45 a month off thousands of customers and they can get away with it.
T-mobile netherlands is probebly going to do thesame because they disabled the "personal hotspot" option for the iphone and were planning to add payment plans for it.
Sue the motherfuckers. Oh wait, courts are bought. Shit, we're so fucked. Oh shit we're gonna be poor.
My guess is that they do a deep packet inspection on HTTP requests and looks for user agents that isn't iPhone safari or opera mini.. so maybe it could be bypassed somewhat easily.. just happy that I'm not using AT & T :-)
Guys.. this thread is over a month old.
I remember the days when I used to buy technology and actually own it.
Guys.. this thread is over a month old.
A month, a year, it doesn't matter. Bottom line is they're fucking crooks and will continue ripping people off until we wise up and stop using them or find ways around their bullshit.

To stop greedy bullshit like this, telecommunications companies need to either have caps on their profits, (after a certain point, have 95% or so of the profit go to the government as taxes) or be nationalized.
To stop greedy bullshit like this, telecommunications companies need to either have caps on their profits, (after a certain point, have 95% or so of the profit go to the government as taxes) or be nationalized.
Capping profits is the worst idea ever. Caps usually discourage services from expanding because if they can reach the cap, there's no reason to try harder. Nationalizing them won't change much I think, now instead of having to contact the provider, government could change stuff directly.
I remember the days when I used to buy technology and actually own it.
I remember the days when people using a service paid for it, rather than finding a way around the company and then acting like martyrs when the company got pissed.
No AT&T, just... No. Who needs tethering? I have a data cable that came with my android phone!
Fuck att. I'm glad I moved to sprint.
Do they have the right to do that? That is just absurd.
Unlimited Data! JUST DONT YOU DARE SHARE IT, WE'LL BILL YOUR ASS.
Who on earth would pay $45 for spotty 100 kbs 3G? Isn't it enough to rape me out the ass for the unlimited data package?
Wait, does this go for Android too?
