until the wii-u is hacked to be used as an external disk drive for a PC wii-u piracy will be impossible
until the wii-u is hacked to be used as an external disk drive for a PC wii-u piracy will be impossible
Let's just wait and see. There were drives that could read wii and gamecube disks. Hell, i even own one.
Pepper;38437317']Let's just wait and see. There were drives that could read wii and gamecube disks. Hell, i even own one.
gamecube disks were miniDVD while wii disks were plain dvd. wii-u disks are full proprietary
What if you just put the games on a flash drive and plug it in?
I don't think it can run games from anything but the disc drive also usb might have too slow read times
I don't think it can run games from anything but the disc drive also usb might have too slow read times
there were ways on the wii, but i wont get into that
there were ways on the wii, but i wont get into that
for one the wii had very little protection against homebrew/counterfeit/pirated games I think with the wii u they'll be a lot more extensive
Because solid state costs literally 100x more than discs (for the amount of data they're using)
Really? You can get a 32GB USB stick for $18.90 AUD, I would assume ROM would be cheaper. They wouldn't lose that much on game sales and they'd have a better quality product, they can also expand the capacity for future games. With the price of flash media and SSDs heading downward, you'd think they'd want to future proof it a bit.
I honestly can't see much difference. How does this work as an anti-piracy measure?
It's possible the drive in the Wii-U won't read normal disks. Modified Wii's can read certain burned disks.
This is actually yes a good idea. Picking them up (properly by the edges) will not give even a slight discomfort to your fingers.
gamecube disks were miniDVD while wii disks were plain dvd. wii-u disks are full proprietary
Gamecube/Wii discs weren't (mini)DVDs per se. They had the same physical specifications, but the data was written on this disc in a non-standard logical format (encrypted as well). A few DVD drives provided raw reading modes that would read the logical structure directly. Wii U discs are made by Panasonic, who also makes Blu-ray discs, and the older Nintendo discs. Wii U discs store 25GB per layer. Blu-ray discs store 25GB per layer. It's very likely that Wii U discs are based on Blu-ray.
Nintendo has done an amazing job on the antipiracy on the 3DS, so I doubt they would step down with the wii u. Although, I would definitely get a wii u if it was hacked. Making homebrew on nintendo hardware is awesum
Unfortunately it's all going to be fucking region-locked again. That's the only reason I modded my Wii. Since I live in The Land of 5-Months After The American Release, I sometimes want to play a game that everyone else has already played, but no.
Pepper;38436827']Uh, the wii uses either a 4.7GB or 8.5GB disk that is similar to DVD but spins in the other direction.
Just put it upside down.
It's possible the drive in the Wii-U won't read normal disks. Modified Wii's can read certain burned disks.
It plays Wii games.
I know exactly why Nintendo dont call there disks Blueray but proprietary... Who was the first system to ever use Blue Ray and patented it... SONY PLAYSTATION of course!! So if Nintendo call there disks Blueray its setting them up for legal confortations with SONY! Of course Nintendo Disks are Blueray they just cannot say blueray thanks to Sonys Patent on having the first system to use Blueray disks!! Any disk that holds 25GB is BLueray the way I see it!! As for the rounded edges... Not new... Buy a Blank Memorex BD-R disk and look at it carefully!! There smooth and rounded edges like the Wii U's, BUT its not exactly as smooth as Panasonics disks but I bet if you buy a Panasonic BD-R theyd be the same as a Wii U disk!! So this is just to hopefully clear this up some!! Matthew196
Spectacular first post
