I'm going to remain optimistic about dice making a battlefront game.
Toggle-able would be nice. I remember you could do that in the first two, but there was no arms/guns in 'first person'.
I just want my space battles back.
The first Battlefront had first person guns and arms.
At least on the Original Xbox
what are you guys talking about both Battlefront I and II had full first person modes at least on PC did you actually ever play the games
also obligatory "hope they don't fuck up"; i'm not that worried about DICE doing things wrong, EA is the real threat to the project here

Had full first person models on every version for both games.
I always laugh in the face of anybody who says they always played third person battlefront and never knew there was first person.
Didn't they also say that they wouldn't stoop to premium service, map packs and stuff?
Offering more content at a later date ala smaller but quicker expansion packs is "stooping" now? Wow.
DICE will either get massive respect points if they pull it of correctly or ruin everyone's favorite game.
Seeing how much shit people give DICE for Battlefield 4, I think they're going to get a lot of shit no matter what they do.
The Battlefield community is one of the worst communities out there. They're obsessed with Call of Duty for some reason.
I just want my space battles back.
I really didn't like the space battles. They always felt so devoid of action by comparison to the ground levels.
Overhauled space battles would be awesome. Like with multiple capital ships, bigger interiors and capital ships getting close enough to blast each other much like this
Well, the only way we'll find out if they screw it up or not is to play the game - so I'm waiting untill I make any pressumptions.
Didn't they also say that they wouldn't stoop to premium service, map packs and stuff?
they also said pigs can fly
It's a fps.. how can they break it? The genre hasn't changed since doom.
The only thing new has been fancy graphics.
Throw decent artists at it and at least half-ass a "story" together and money will be made.
Complainers will be slandered as Luddites, and Fanboys will be regarded as snotty children.
Both will sell their bodies to suck as the sweet SW teat though.

captain Generalization on the deck
With my experience with playing with friends/family on the consoles, they first person models would be removed if you played 1st person in splitscreen. That might be where some confusion is popping up from.
I m intrested in what time frame they are going to be placing it. Will it be another clone wars or Empire time frame

All of the above (just like the last two)
Wait wasnt there a cancelled battlefront sometime ago? This is like a whole new thing then?

My list of worst communities follows in Gmod RP community, Planet side 2 Forum Community, LoL Everything, and Battlefield Community.
Jumping in on the arms debate, Battlefront II had first person arms even on the original XBox, only if you were playing singleplayer/XBL by yourself. If you played in any form of split screen, the FP arms went away. I imagine it was the same for the first.
If I played split screen, I only played third person, otherwise first person all the way.
Wait people actually played in 1st person? Whenever I played me and my cousin would always play in 3rd since the controls seemed weird for 1st. That and we didn't discover it until like a year or two after release.
Wait wasnt there a cancelled battlefront sometime ago? This is like a whole new thing then?
Yeah, there was a Battlefront 3 that was either 98% done or was completely ready to go and was just never published because of bullshit.

I started playing first person recently, after spending a shit ton of time playing Battlefield 1942. It just felt weird playing a Battlefield-like game in third person.
Didn't they also say that they wouldn't stoop to premium service, map packs and stuff?
I don't recall, as far as I remember they had planned DLC Map pack shit since forever.
I like how nowadays literally no one trusts developers on their word, I don't think it's a mindset that will ever go away either sadly.
I hope it has that mode like in Battlefront II where it spawned 128(?) players in one map.
That was really really cool.

lol, thats like saying RPG's haven't changed at all as a whole since Daggerfall.
There is a large fanbase around the Battlefront series and they get kind of pissed really easily because they all have nostalgia goggles on or defend the Battlefront way to much.
Battlefront 2 was a pretty great game and a lot of fun, but it wasn't that special or unique. The space battles are perhaps the coolest innovation. Sometimes I don't get the hype that much.

I'd say you forgot CoD and TF2 but they probably don't even count by now.

Run around... shoot monsters
Run around... shoot people
Run around... shoot objects
Hasn't really changed much. Different modes like capture the flag and such.. sure, but the whole 1st/3rd person running around shooting is getting kinda dated.
I get criticized for sticking with XP. And that isn't nearly as old as FPS as a game genre. Perhaps folks stoically holding onto old fashioned gameplay paradigms are holding the industry back. OR maybe that's it. No one has any ideas anymore, so we end up with weirdo vr interfaces or motion controllers to map on top of the same old thing.
I doubt very highly that DICE or anyone else is going to come up with anything mind blowing with a FPS. It will be a FPS with SW art and a super-duper rendering environment. Nothing more.
I'm probably just burnt out on it all. It's probably really exciting and I'm just to jaded to be optimistic.
yes, i agree - video games have gotten much too similar with the idea of pressing buttons, and quite honestly, it's getting rather dated.
Maybe the industry could someday look to a video game without any button pressing, but right now it's all the same - no-one has any ideas about how to break video games out of that same old 'button pressing' cycle so we end up with weirdo gimmicks like 'genres' or 'narratives' to distract us from the fact that all we're doing is the same button pressing over and over again.
I'm probably just burnt out on is all. It's probably really exciting and I'm just to jaded to be optimistic.

Wii-Fit
Look how that turned out
clearly mind-controlled video games are the next step that the industry needs, anything less than that would be unacceptable in terms of innovation
I'd say you forgot CoD and TF2 but they probably don't even count by now.
I don't count the TF2 community because TF2 doesn't have a coherent base, people have spread out too much to their own little corner.
CoD is too large to be honest, its played by most gamers so having a fanbase of that size is pretty difficult to be coherent.
I listed the Gmod RP community first because after being an admin for several RP servers, people juts want their way, a lot and will drag the community down to get it. Most admins are in their teens so they're power hungry morons and the player bases intelligence decidedly starts to drop after a certain period of time.
Plantside 2's Forum community is next because all the do is bitch about whatever faction is doing the best right now and about things that really don't make a god damn difference. Everything must be nerfed to them except their stuff, because its under powered.
LoL for obvious reasons is basically the cancer of gaming communities.
Battliefield community used to be nice and then they got Angry that CoD was doing so well and like any community that's very FPS heavy, especially on the PC side, they shat all over Call of Duty at any opportunity. Its embarrassing.
