I doubt very highly that DICE or anyone else is going to come up with anything mind blowing with a FPS. It will be a FPS with SW art and a super-duper rendering environment. Nothing more.
Are you using a XP PC from 2001? FPS games gotten more advanced than Quake 2 in the last decade. [editline]19th October 2013[/editline]
Wii-Fit Look how that turned out
Or the *shudder* Kinect.
As long as it has Instant Action and bots for single player conquest I'm happy.
DICE will either get massive respect points if they pull it of correctly or ruin everyone's favorite game.
that's a lot of pressure either make everyone smile or everyone will get seriously pissed and send death threats
Had full first person models on every version for both games. I always laugh in the face of anybody who says they always played third person battlefront and never knew there was first person.
third person was default on the 2nd game there were no first person hand models in either of the games when playing coop that's why people think there were no models, because they mainly played split screen
Me using an old machine to browse the internet doesn't change 3 decades of the same game.
You can't look at Deus Ex, System Shock, Rainbow Six, Fallout 3, Thief, Jumping Flash, or Dishonored and say it's no different than Doom. Unless you are just talking out of your ass and have never played a first person shooter made in the last 10 years.
Battliefield community used to be nice and then they got Angry that CoD was doing so well and like any community that's very FPS heavy, especially on the PC side, they shat all over Call of Duty at any opportunity. Its embarrassing.
In my experience out of the games Battlefield players have just as bad attitudes as CoD players. That said, in the gameplay itself, I would much rather have a team full of CoD players than Battlefield players. This is just me playing on the PC for both but I know in CoD games when I play objective modes matches are almost always fairly close. This is opposed to Battlefield where a close game is extremely rare because one of the teams is just filled with people who can't achieve ultra-simplistic goals like "run into that bomb site" or "throw down medkits at high traffic areas". I've never quit a match in CoD because I felt like I was the only one on my team going for the headquarters, but I've quit out of frustration from numerous BC2/BF3 Rush matches because I'm consecutively looking at the respawn screen and not seeing anyone even trying.
I really didn't like the space battles. They always felt so devoid of action by comparison to the ground levels.
I agree, though my main gripe was how they put all the spacecraft in the space battles and left Hoth as the only ground map with spacecraft. Playing Battlefront II makes me really miss back in Battlefront when you could strafe infantry or vehicles in a Tie fighter or an X-wing. I also kind of missed when Jedi were invincible ai killing machines that the only way to get rid of where to blow off the map or get them stuck somewhere with the rocket launcher.
Better AI would be good too. Bit tiresome watching the advanced cloned super soldiers getting stuck on sliding doors, or watching them discover that no, a doorway doesn't support 10 people at once.

So yeah.. talking out of my ass or just not finding gaming interesting anymore because it's all from the same damned perspective.. whatever. Just voicing my opinion and stating that nothing new will come from a fps. FPS + RPG is still just FPS. FPS + prompted button mashing is still FPS. FPS + sandbox, is still just FPS. FPS + tetris, is still just FPS. Not saying there isn't a market for it, and not saying there won't be novel little special touches. It'l be dudes running around shooting each other. Has that changed since doom? Not one little bit.
I think we can be glad that DICE has taken on the subject because lets be honest who could pull it off any better? If EA decides to give them the time they need I'm sure this will be a really big title and pulled off very well.

"FPS" isn't a restrictive genre if you can come up with novel ways of interacting with the world. Yeah it's going to be "dudes running around shooting each other", but what else can it be? It's a shooter, it is played in the first person, what can you change about that without it being a different genre? There are quite a few differences between ye olde shooters like Doom and modern things like, say, ArmA2 in terms of gameplay outside of the fact they both have FPS as a common ground. You're literally looking at this as if the genre is all there is to the game from what I understand, when there is more to it. Yeah, ArmA2 is also "dudes running around shooting each other", but it adds more depth and shit with realism, and tactics. As does the Rainbow Six series. CoD adds more depth in the customisation features, and such other shit. They will always be "dudes running around shooting each other", because that what an FPS is, it's shooting from the first person. There's literally nothing you can change about that without it being a different genre. So DICE working on it is pretty great in all honesty.
;42585409']Research and Development would like a word.
Monotonous reuse of a design has a reply? I'm really the only person that sees this? If you remap a tic-tac-toe grid over a sphere and add cells, it's still tic-tac-toe. If you play chess with nothing but pawns, it is still just a variant of the same game. but, yeah.. that's getting away from DICE and SWBF3. It will be a fps. Since it's SWBF, it should be squad based. What could they possibly add that would be revolutionary other than a fancier engine that requires a beast machine to handle the pretty? Better marketing? -edit @Hex You are right. I am seeing it a bit narrowly. It's just disappointing to see the same thing over and over and hearing it heralded as the greatest thing ever.

My memories of swbf was throwing grenades down chock points or sniping bots over and over again.

Shame we don't see as much of the other, numerous genres out there really.

Honestly I feel like if anyone can pull off 128 player conquest matches it's DICE.

I always thought the fun of it was working with other players to accomplish specific goals. And it does have a story mode. Methods for modding your own stories into it haven't been really developed till recently. (SWBF2 may be different, I wouldn't know.) Multiplayer Galactic Conquest was planned IIRC, but not implemented. Some of the code for it is still in the game luas. That would be cool to see. -edit Oh wait.. you mean a branching story mode? That would be Awesome, actually. (wouldn't get away from FPS, but I'm dropping all that as it's just negativity.) Yeah, a decent story that isn't just a static adaptation of movie events would rock. Especially if it could affect the current map/level/whatever.

Placing fucking mines everywhere just to see count dooku walk into one and then do a million flips into oblivion. The best feeling every time. One of the reasons why I still think Battlefront 1 > Battlefront 2 was because the flipping body physics was way more exaggerated in BF1, it was hilarious.
jedi fights with frostbite can't lose
If Battlefront 3 does happen to be a re skinned BF4 with a few new ideas then it'll be no different to it's predecessors. They've always offered practically the same thing and they've been great.
