NOT going to happen. Read the EULA before you post, this is perfectly acceptable.
Except he's redistributing assets that he doesn't own. The source code is GPL, the maps, textures, models aren't.
Seeing this thread made me wonder why World of Goo isn't on the App Store. Fuck, it would be amazing. It seems like the perfect kind of game for a touchscreen.
I just realized that I'd bought this game ages ago and forgot about it. Must replay now. Also, why would you pirate something made by an indie developer. It's a sin.
Wow, that fucker needs to die in a fire.
ITT: People have no concept of justice. Yes this guy can be sued legally, yes he probably will be sued and is an idiot for doing this.
What a bunch of shameless fucks
It's the same as if I took valve's models, added them to my game and then sold it. The code might be mine, but models are not and I have no rights to use them, especially commercially. He should be sued because this is a serious offense. Stealing someone's art and then using it for profit is very illegal.
Someone who has access to the App Store, comment on the fake's saying that it's a ripoff of the original and that you should buy the original to support Wolfire. I'd do it but I don't have a Mac so yeah. [editline]4th February 2011[/editline] Also, I just found out I can get Black Shades for my iTouch :buddy:
check out icoders other awesome works.
Haha, no wonder he had to steal it.
Let's stone this Icoder guy.
Isn't Apple also legally responsible for facilitating this theft because they explicitly gave permission for the pirated version to be sold? You would think Apple would want to cover their asses on this one, but evidently not. Other apps were taken down much faster than this one.
He also uses pc screenshots for the preview note one of the images says press escape or space to return to the menu
He should get hanged for the crimes he has done. Unforgivable
You're such a faggot.
That pirate guy looks pretty badass, tbh.
That's how Duke has made a living over the past 12 years.
This is fucking retarded and in a somewhat grey area of the law. If they added a decent chunk of their own code it might be acceptable. But a carbon copy is outright fraud.
It's hilarious watching people think that open source means free. This isn't a gray area. This is some guy ripping off Wolfire. Wolfire own the art, music, content. The game engine is open source. If they did a total conversion and replaced every single art asset, it'd be fine. But this is just a ripoff.
Apple doesn't care because they get profit. Greedy bastards.
This is fucking retarded and in a somewhat grey area of the law. If they added a decent chunk of their own code it might be acceptable. But a carbon copy is outright fraud.
It's actually not a grey area at all (I thought this too but I've now learned more about the situation). None of the creative content besides the code is under a free license. So if they carbon copied the code, that would be okay, but everything else would have to be their own work, including maps, models, textures, and menu graphics.
He also uses pc screenshots for the preview note one of the images says press escape or space to return to the menu
Those buttons are on macs too you know.
Seeing this thread made me wonder why World of Goo isn't on the App Store. Fuck, it would be amazing. It seems like the perfect kind of game for a touchscreen.
It is for iPad I'm pretty sure
Even if that isn't the case, Apple is showing an enormous incompetence.
Not big surprise.
yeah now mac users can pay for a shitty game for 8 dollars more!!
yeah now mac users can pay for a shitty game for 8 dollars more!!
What? The stolen version is the cheaper one.
According to Wolfire's website, they took it down!
We're not sure who took it down, or what will happen to the customers who were tricked into buying the fake copy, or the money they paid for it. We still haven't heard anything from Apple. We don't think that the customers should be punished for buying the fake version -- they probably just assumed that all the games in the App Store are legitimate. We would have assumed the same thing until last week! If you accidentally purchased the fake Lugaru, you can forward your receipt to contact@wolfire.com and we will give you an authentic version of Lugaru HD, as well as a bonus Steam key for your trouble.
Source I can't believe they're nice enough to give the people that bought a fake copy a key for the REAL copy. I'm really starting to respect them even more.
So, anyone remember when we hunted down that kid who scammed some cash from us at Christmas time...? I smell blood.
What? The stolen version is the cheaper one.
uh, no. idiot.
uh, no. idiot.
Explain how I'm an idiot instead of just replying with 3 uninformative words.
