Russia to ban US from using ISS beyond 2020 over Ukraine sanctions
Look at photos of Mir near its end of its life, same sort of thing. It may be one of (if not) the biggest achievements of human engineering but it is still a man made construction that has been sitting in space for ~15 years.
exactly. it's a closed, moist tube of air. Stale air, at that.

However some of the lower stuff has never come to be.
they should open a window and let the breeze refresh it.
Except that the US and EU could easily make a soyuz copy and continue manning a new space station, besides, isn't everything on ISS except the soyuz's and one of the pods US/EU-made?
It's propaganda for the Russians, nothing else.
Making spacecraft isn't as easy as just copying something even if you could. The Soyuz spacecraft is quite ancient, even though the latest version is only some years old.
And no, about half of the crew modules on ISS is Russian.
The only ones owned by Russia are Zvesda, Pirs (which is only needed by Russia for docking and EVA), Poisk (which is basically the same as Pirs), and Rassvet (another Russian docking module). So if they do remove their modules, the only one that could be a problem is Zvesda.
That's okay, we'll just make ISS V2. SpaceX Boogaloo. It'll have blackjack! Oh and hookers! Yeah!
good thing I can still go there
Sucks that the advancement of humans and space is being held back over petty arguments and sanctions, it's sad really.
hopefully this actually makes the US develop plans for another space station in response to this
This is the best
New space race
America put all your military funding into nasa to protect your space freedoms
A new war will happen, a space war
Ok, fuck you Putin.
Spinless mother fucker can lay his "big" dick all over anything he wants, but banning us from the ISS over your own problems? That's the last straw.

It's quite a far stretch away from the only russian things on the station being the Soyuz and "one pod".
Especially considering the Zvezda module provides all of the life support systems.
Downplaying the problem won't work here, this is pretty serious.

Isn't Pirs meant to be deorbited this year anyway as its not needed.
This is not just a problem for the ISS too, the ULA rocket Atlas V uses a Russian main engine, and it's used for a lot of national security launches.
Well I guess it's time to build a PROPER space station this time, rather than just strapping a bunch of pods together.
Really, we should work towards making our space-stations in fucking space, actually building a solid structure that doesn't look or work like a bunch of cramped cylinders taped together into some sort of kindergartener's art project.

They have a surplus of those, and specifications to manufacture their own, and a court already said they had to stop purchasing new ones from Russia, so that should be alright.
This is kind of a shitty response to the sanctions, it's only going to happen in 6 years and by then it'll be an empty threat.
I didn't realize 2020 was only six years away.
Time sure does fly.
Space War 2 will be fought by Putin and Obama in exoskeletons. They are going to fight with knives, while the ISS enters the atmosphere.
Did you guys really think the Kremlin would sit back and just let the sanctions happen?
Maybe if the American government spent more than half a penny per citizen on NASA they could get to space without relying on the Russians? Blame yourselves.
Time sure does fly.
i'd say time orbits the earth at around 7.71km/s
to be clear, they are not allowing us to launch rockets from Russia, not banning the US from the ISS
Aw fuck yes! I hope this does happen and another space race happens!

NASA's budget is a lot bigger than $1.5 million. It's more like $60 per citizen.
It's half a penny for each dollar of the federal budget I think?

That's just a weird way of saying it, though.

#Penny4NASA
Maybe NASA and congress will finally get off its fucking ass and get Orion going instead of countless delays

The moment the clocks hit 2020 all the solar arrays will eject off. Can't use ISS? Can't use solar panels.
s'okay putin, we should all just build a non-russian ISS, with blackjack and hookers
