“Brains of Game Addicts Same as Brains of Drug Addicts”

Sex affects your brain. Drugs affect your brain.
Sex=drugs.
Human brain found to be like another human brain, what are the odds!?
This.
I bet we can find a lot of other stuff which affects this part of the brain, to the mere point where we will be able to affirm that everything is dangerous (that already happens with cancer. everything gives it)
Speaking affects your brain, as does walking so...
Anything you do has an effect on your brain!? Who knew! Honestly though, the answer is most likely that addiction to anything causes that part of your brain to be stimulated. Let's see a TV addict and a junk food addict compared up there as well.
I could stop playing any time I wanted to.

I just don't want to.
it's mostly just shite man

Gee, you fucking think? Addiction has certain signs. Video Game addiction is no different; it has the same signs as drug addiction. It has the same signs as gambling addiction. IT'S STILL A FUCKING ADDICTION.
Addiction is the same all the way around, I don't find this surprising.
Well I do not think that this going to be thought as a medical condition, but rather a mental condition that needs attention. Say with the image do you think that it may just be that it is an echo of the stimulation of playing those games. But what makes them think that they have rock solid proof that is the area where the brain activity related to games is taking place. And besides those two images have two different ares and cross sections of the brain, so I really do not think that us game addicted guys have an all too common ground with cocaine addicts.
But I do agree that an addiction is an addiction, whether it be physical or non physical.
What do they mean to accomplish with this? With the billions of dollars made by games and the millions collected in taxes on said games, the government and game industries would NEVER shut gaming down.
That's what they said about tobacco.
So all this time I've been playing video games when cocaine will give me a much better high?
I've been wasting my life! Thank you informative article!
Honestly... I blame WoW, and Maplestory...
and runescape if you play maplestory
Comparing the two without a control makes this article pretty invalid. Also I'm both I wonder what my brain's like (probably exactly the same as everyone else's).
Sadly, alcohol is cheaper then some video games nowadays...

But alcohol has negative side effects, Games don't.
Of course they are! brains of ANY addict are the same, because they all have an unbalance of Dopamine...
Bear in mind we are talking the same level of life-threatening addiction here, the type which the vast majority of us are not accustomed to.
People calling bullshit either has something against foreign research groups or feel that their "gaming culture" is being attacked when clearly it isn't.
Gaming addiction is a BIG problem in Korea, hence why they go into this much research.

They already did. There are people enjoying games and getting on with their lives (the comparison to normal brains) and those who are addicts who have less of a life than the people here on facepunch.
Which is saying something.

Does anyone here even understand the level of addiction we are talking about? Jeez.
Imagine a crack-head. Now imagine someone in their basement playing WOW/etc every waking moment.
No Job, Crippled future prospects, malnutrition/poor diet, poor exercise, poor social skills.
It is an ADDICTION.
Some chemicals from cocaine are used in pharmecuticals, they can't shut down an entire source just because a few people can't keep their veins closed.
When you play the same game you don't learn more, so it doesn't give you more knowledge, like the other study had.
Korea is just trying to get some scare out there, damn almond eyes.
oh my god i'm a monster.
I saw more people play farmville on facbook then people play WoW.
I think this is kinda probably. My guess is that the centers which are highly active are responsible for imagination. Your imagination blooms when you are tripping balls due to drugs, and you are using it a lot when playing games to complete the details to enjoy the game.
However I don't find anything bad in this.

Also, at least the pictures in OP are hilariously unlikely. My guess is that they are even from different layer of brain. Just compare them, they don't have anything common.
Honestly... I blame WoW, and Maplestory...
I like Maplestory.
I haven't played it in forever though.
I think I just like it because those orange mushrooms are cute. <3
no one really cares korea can you please just stop trying to make games look bad
They're trying to trick the west into playing less Starcraft, so they can totally dominate :ohdear:
BS, and either way, both are good for you, so they can go fuck themselves.
Addiction may affect the same part of the brain, but I guarantee drugs are messing up more than that.
That's bull
Addiction is a made up state of mind. Why stop doing something that feels good for no reason, when you can carry on doing it perfectly find for a damn good reason!

Orbitofrontal cortex compared (left) active drug addicts, (right) Internet addiction
That proves nothing until they show how a "normal" brain is different.
It just shows the same parts in a brain that are stimulated i'm assuming when in an addicted persons brain - I don't want to know what the treatments for internet addiction are going to be but i'm guessing like they offer drugs similar to the ones they use to get people off the other drugs.
