John Browning deserves a day of honor, he was a truly brilliant. Hell, quite a few of his designs (and a few of his weapons, in almost unmodified form) are still in military use today, 100 years later.
That dude who invented the wheel was a fucking genius eh?
That dude who invented the wheel was a fucking genius eh?
Yes he was, but we have no fucking clue who he was.
Why do so many of you Americans appreciate guns so much? What's with the love for the #1 tool of killing? Countries where guns are restricted by the government have much lower gun crime rates per capita than the US. Don't think that because everyone carries guns everyone is safe. It's the other way around. I'm not saying you should start restricting gun-trade and possession. It's too late for that, there are already millions in circulation, to remove them all at once would be impossible and would only create an imbalance, and since you got Mexico so close-by without a proper border control criminals could just get the guns from there. But there is still no reason to love these killing machines like so many of you seem to do.
I really grow tired of arguing gun control on facepunch, so I'm just going to leave it short and simple: You are wrong. There are a number of countries with strict gun control laws and far more armed crime and homicides than the US. Gun control works fantastically in certain countries, works terribly in others. Different countries, different cultures, different social situations = DIFFERENT RESULTS.
Gun appreciation day? America is one wacky country.

It totally depends on as you said, the country, culture and social situations. It's not just straight up "guns are great for all" or "guns are bad for all"
Usually when i think about the 1911 the terminator long slide version pops into mind. And the ATM hardballer from Hitman
This "state gun" is probably the best thing to happen to the state since...ever. All I ever hear about Utah is how fucking boring it is.
100 years and still in service in some parts of the world, just shows how much a revolutionary handgun it was.
Good for them! Hopefully they can make it so they can carry sidearms over there just like here in AZ
i think they sould let people carry semi-auto rifles.
Lets cerebrate something designed to kill people. Why not. Where's nuclear and biochemical WMDs appreciation day, tho? [editline]28th January 2011[/editline] Or IEDs, these need love too!
I live in Utah, I'm not mormon, none of my family is and I have no idea how the fuck we ended up in this shithole of a state :smith:
Sure they have that nice rustic look but I can guarantee you'd rather have something more modern than a great war service gun in a matter of life and death.
1911 isn't a terrible carry choice though. Sure it lacks fire power but it has a slim design that is nice for carry, is very reliable, very easy to find, and very accurate once you know how to shoot it. Some modern Glocks have more firepower and may actually be a better choice in many areas but I would most certainly trust my life to a 1911.
What about Cyclone B day? Or Anthrax day? Cyanide might get a whole week maybe.
What about Cyclone B day? Or Anthrax day? Cyanide might get a whole week maybe.
Drop it.
Drop it. [editline]28th January 2011[/editline] I think the 1911 actually has decent firepower, since it's chambered in .45.
I meant firepower in the context of the amount of rounds it can carry in its magazine. Sure the bullets pack a punch but you better damn hit with them because you only have about 7-10, compared to more modern guns in lower caliber that can hold 10-20.
I never really liked 1911's, my tiny hands prefer Sig Sauer's because I can't reach the slide lock otherwise :saddowns: I can't deny that it's a good handgun though.
California should have an Orange Day.
Orange kush day. Oh wait we already have that day in California, it's called ERR DAY.
i didn't mean that in a negative way it's just to a brit like me it's something totally far out, to us any kind of appreciation day is strange there's nothing wrong with being silly
Congress people vote on appreciation days all the time. I was just randomly browsing my Congressman's voting record one time and he wrote a bill for a National Transportation workers appreciation day. We pay these people to do this kind of stuff?
i bet most of you havent even fired a gun trust me, it is much louder than in media but the feeling of knowing that you just killed something and are going to eat it in several hours is exhiliarating
i think they sould let people carry semi-auto rifles.
In my state it is entirely within my legal right to walk down main street with a loaded AR-15 slung over my shoulder. I'm glad they picked a awesome gun to represent them.

Well it's certainly more exciting than a state flower...
