I don't see why people are having negative attitudes towards this. As much as I want a Fallout MMO as the next guy, a TES MMO is still a fantastic idea so long as it doesn't rape lore or gameplay mechanics.
They can barely make a functional game with one player. How the hell are they going to pull this off?
Practice makes perfect. Every game has had it's fair share of major improvements/changes to the engines. Morrowind is nothing like Skyrim, but the new engine shows more promise now than Morrowinds engine did then. I'd like to think of it as Bethesda has been experimenting and learning more and more about their games with each one they develop. They try new things and if they like it they often keep it for the next game.
If it's F2P I will come loads. My problem with GW2 is the korean artstyle for the races, especially the humans. All the examples of men I've seen have doll faces. [editline]15th March 2012[/editline]
I honestly don't see the problem with it. As long as it looks, and plays like any other Elder Scrolls game i'd be excited about it. Not to mention that an MMO is probably as close as we'll get to being able to explore all of Tamriel in the same game. Well, okay maybe I am feeling a bit iffy about it.
You do know that PVP in MMOs is awfully unbalanced because they tend to have 2 factions instead of 3...
IIIIIIII hoooooooope it's goooooooooooooood
IIIIIIII hoooooooope it's goooooooooooooood
Honestly I can't see it topping GW2 with all the work Arena put in and the F2P status. I mean you could say but its TES but it's all fantasy to me.
Yes, I agree permanent fortify spells for all.
Yeah they'd totally leave the game as is and just add in other multiplayer, that's what I was saying.
The one reason why I'm not looking forward to this, is because knowing Beth, they are going to fucking ruin the standard Elder Scrolls series after this because they'll try and implement all their "game design" choices they did in the MMO in the single player front, and the next "true" ES game will somehow end up playing like a first person diablo 3 instead of the evolution of elderscrolls that we all want Calling it
Just so everyone knows, there is another MMO out there that is doing fairly well for the past couple years that plays a LOT like Elder Scrolls. It's called Mortal Online. It's basically a much more hardcore version of Skyrim's gameplay and it's what I imagined the Elder Scrolls MMO would be like. I highly enjoyed it when I did play, but I quit due to other players being total dicks because everything goes in that game. In short, First Person Action MMORPGs are totally possible.

Can't wait to pickpocket everyones clothes off!
As long as it's Within the Game Universe, and no world-ending plot, I'm for it Just make a populated sandbox Elder Scrolls world, and all the players are a part of it, instead of trying to make them the hero like we were in the previous games
I would never play A bethesda game out of reach of the modding community these days. Skyrim was a prime example of rushed, buggy game and I wouldn't be able to bear with a buggy MMO that comes from them since bugs in mmos are game breaking entirley.
A full millennium before seems like an interesting concept... Not exactly sure when the Dwemer disappeared, but maybe we can get to see them, and maybe the Snowelves. That, or perhaps we'll see the wars between the races on the other large continent
A coop mode for skyrim would be much better than some MMO, in my opinion. Especially if it still allows mods.
i imagine the awful net code bethesda will inevitably write combined with the bugs they always have will make it the final fantasy 14 of the franchise
except FFXIV is getting a huge overhaul that fixes most of its ass backwards problems. [editline]16th March 2012[/editline]
A full millennium ahead seems like an interesting concept
before actually.
If I can't storm a castle with an army then I wont be buying
I want new fallout instead
Am I really the only one who hates MMOs? This is horrible news..
Hmm, the second era ended with the unification of Tamriel under Tiber Septim, so if there's three factions I'm guessing one would be his fledgling empire, another the Aldmeric Dominion (which was formed during the second era) - not sure what the third faction would be, although some of the northern and west states rebelled, like Hammerfall, the Bretons and the Nords, so that could be the third faction. However, I don't think an Elder Scrolls MMO would work - at least not without sacrificing some of what makes the series good.
Great now where might see noobs sprout elder scrolls memes all the time in the servers. For the love of god don't make it F2P. That implies a cash shop and other junk. If it's a quality TES mmo I'm willing to pay $10 a month. I fucking hate F2P model because it forces games to be designed around grind and premium content. On the other hand if it's like GW with one time fee, the sure. But somehow I don't see that happening. [editline]16th March 2012[/editline]
Someone is making a skyrim online mod, so we'll see.
Someone was making an oblivion coop mod, it never got far
Someone was making an oblivion coop mod, it never got far
Oblivion really had a horrible engine and the modder was just trying to see if it's prove that it is possible to have some sort of multiplayer on Oblivion, so he never got any further than proving that it's ultimately possible.
I want new fallout instead
I am pretty sure that bethesda got another developer to work on the MMO, bethesda game studios is best at creating large single player RPGs, it wouldnt make sense to force them to work on something they dont have much experience on.
In my opinion adding online functionality would be cool. But it would only work with a restricted playerbase with people you know.
Am I really the only one who hates MMOs?
Nope. I prefer a strong single-player experience over an MMO where they milk you with the subscription fee and where you can not alter the experience with community-made modifications.
Wow, this hasn't been posted yet? There's a reason why there shouldn't be an Elder Scrolls MMO
You people are acting like this will be based off of Skyrim and it's engine and all of Skyrim's bugs will be in there.
Most probably using the same engine for SWTOR http://massively.joystiq.com/2007/11/26/zenimax-online-bulks-up-with-heroengine/
Please don't ruin yet another good game series with an MMO.
Bethesda is the only company that has to burden a rabid playerbase that will simultaneously trash their skills as developers and critique the shit out of their games while logging hundreds of fucking gameplay hours into any given title. Wow. Just wow.
