EA filtering non-5 star ratings for Dungeon Keeper
80 replies, posted
If you try to pull shit like this in any market other than the gaming one, it's a scandal.
But instead, false advertisement is a thing for this market and customers can't trust anything they get to read on seemingly 'reliable' professional/official sources.
I am fed up with this.
I hope EA goes broke.
There we go. I just said it.
Imagine if they gave you gems for 5 star reviews.
Instant play store GOTY.
"I rate this game 1 star, additional stars can be purchased for $4.99 each"
more people hate it so it's automatically a 5 star but if you want to go lower you have to pay.

Shh, don't give them ideas! :v:
Well there are lots of pro-LGBT companies, there is LITERALLY no reason to think that the majority of homophobes would just vote EA without knowing about EA's business practices. it seems he used the fact that EA won the worst company in America poll (or were going to) to advertise that they were LGBT and some people voted for them because of that.
But no one is making that argument except you or the people that want to push a certain narrative that certainly isn't EA's view of things. No one thinks EA won Worst Company from some shitty website because a majority of the voters hate gay people. Not even EA.
What it boiled down to was:
"We're not going to take being voted worst company in America as a sign that our business decisions are terrible, we're going to justify our poor choices and turn it around to advertise our pro-LGBT stance"
"Advertising".
They mentioned it once in a single bulletpoint because the link got passed around a known website where people complained about EA pushing the "gay agenda". It comprised less than a tenth of the lines from Peter Moore's statement.
Then why did they even mention it?
Also just so that we are absolutely clear, I'm not in the business of defending EA and I don't particularly care about what Peter Moore had to say about SimCity or DRM or microtransactions or whatever. Whether or not he didn't sufficiently justify those business decisions doesn't matter to me. I'm posting purely because of the fact that a lot of people seem to be misunderstanding what Peter Moore actually said, something that isn't helped with headlines like
EA voted worst company in America – blames anti-gay campaigners
that are then followed by a statement from a spokesperson and the article itself actually outlining a variety of issues, anti-gay campaigners being just one of them. It's unfair.
From a user metacritic review:
The problem I find with games like these is the gullibility factor. It's almost like they think we're all stupid. Then you get those people that really ARE stupid. It's like abusing the elderly to steal their pension. When you charge for every single aspect of the game we know your target audience isn't successful adults but instead children or easily swayed adults. The people who you shouldn't be abusing at all. It's cruel and more than that, it's evil. [...]
I found this worth sharing because while perhaps looking tumblr-ish over the top, it is exactly what it all boils down to. A scam.
[editline]11th February 2014[/editline]
And the fact that they're doing what they can to have the highest score possible and be in the top is to attract exactly that gullible demographics who will download as they see 'free' and 5 stars without looking any further.
Then why did they even mention it?
Because it reveals that EA catches flak as the Worst Company purely for their stance on social equality and that they see it as illegitimate. If you actually read the shit you post here you will see that those bullet points are him countering criticism.
The bigger question is why you have such an issue with it. Is it really that hard to believe that some people don't like EA because they are outspoken over equality issues?
Basically: Why isn't EA allowed to say "Some people think we are a bad company because we are pro-LGBT. We disagree with those people".

I took like half an hour to get this working shortly before I heard the mobile Dungeon Keeper game was a thing. Needless to say I was greatly insulted.
(Incidentally, if you find Dungeon Keeper 1 in a Goodwill or something, fucking get it, it's brilliant)
Basically: Why isn't EA allowed to say "Some people think we are a bad company because we are pro-LGBT. We disagree with those people".
Because I see no information showing how large of a group fall into this category relative to the people that hate them because they are a shit company with even shittier cash grab business practices. That statement is nothing more than a convienient excuse that they can parade around to deflect the scorn they recieve.

Because it makes a hen out of a feather. Those that hate EA based on their pro-LGBT stance are an minority, and thus saying that as a part of a response towards being voted the most hated company in America is basically me saying: "Sure, many people hate me for being shady, but some hate me for being (insert minority) and thats terrible!" It makes the LGBT hate seem like the main problem when it is in fact not.

Calm down guys, its only February, what EA is doing can't be that bad.. Lets see what EA brings to the table in a months time.
Wh y does google not step in?

Because it's like being a chef at a bakery and when someone orders a cake, you bake a cake, frost it with chocolate frosting, then take a shit on top of it and when they come after you about it you go "what you don't like chocolate frosting ?!?!1"

But it's not used to deflect scorn. It's only used as a statement of fact. Did you read the Peter Moore post earlier?

But it doesn't do that at all. He listed several things then mentioned the LGBT thing last. There is no possible way you can read it as them making it out to be the main problem unless you are going out of your way to build a narrative.

RIP Titanfall
Wh y does google not step in?
I guess they can't really do anything. After all, the user is perfectly able to go to the store and vote it 1 star.
It's another thing if the user isn't bright enough to realize it.
Well, isn't what a person says last the most important though? As that essentially summarizes what has been said? Also saying
"That last one is particularly telling. If that’s what makes us the worst company, bring it on. Because we're not caving on that."
Is obviously trying to make it bigger than it is.
But it's not used to deflect scorn. It's only used as a statement of fact. Did you read the Peter Moore post earlier?
Without actual numbers that's all it ultimately amounts to, and lets stop pretending that he didn't try and attract a lot of attention to that point in interviews.
More to the point, you sure are parading it around right now.
has filtering bad results worked for anyone ever?
Well, isn't what a person says last the most important though?
Now this just comes across as contrived. It was listed last for any number of reasons and wasn't even the last point in the post and was overall a small part of a larger topic.
What?
EA is honestly the worst publisher out there.
[editline]11th February 2014[/editline]
Ok why are people talking about LGBT in a thread about a dragon game? Derailing at full force.
(Incidentally, if you find Dungeon Keeper 1 in a Goodwill or something, fucking get it, it's brilliant)
It's on GoG.com, just buy it there with Dungeon Keeper 2 for less then the price of the lowest pack of gems in the bullshit mobile game.
Someone should make a nice app that blocks any of EAs shart from the app store so you can't even see it.
What?
Really?
Because it reveals that EA catches flak as the Worst Company purely for their stance on social equality....
If you aren't intending to parade that around, your choice of wording is exceedingly poor.
Really?
There is a small group of people who dislike EA not because of their business practices but because they are pro-LGBT. Why is this very simple, observable fact so thoroughly impossible to grasp?

I wouldn't be surprised if these kinds of games were literally targeted at people with a gambling addiction.

Fair enough, but my point is that all of those points were entirely unnessessary as the voting was people clicking a button and not writing a single letter, meaning that no person that voted actually said any of those things(at least not at the time), yet they assumed that at least a mentionable amount of people voted because of that.
I hope this gets taken off of the app store.
