Let's just have private citizens with guns everywhere, watching over everyone. Mass shootings can happen anywhere, can't they?
I don't know what state you live in but assuming you live in a CC state whenever you leave your house you are probably walking past people with guns in holsters. Does that frighten you?
That literally would never happen. A kid isn't going to go and steal the security guard's gun, and the guard sure as hell isn't going to give it to them. There is no risk to the kids having armed security at a school, several in the US do it already. And what about when police visit schools? They have their guns on them, would you be stressed about an armed cop being in the school? Chances are no, so why then an armed security guard. They're trained in how and when to properly use their guns, and are in direct supervision of them at all times. It wouldn't be much different than having a cop patrolling the school, except in the case of private security it doesn't use police resources.
I'm sorry but this is wrong on so many levels. I bet you wouldn't mind giving your privacy away to be "safer". But back on the point, putting cops/private guards inside school won't solve a thing. It will probably make it even worse, because then the place known as school would be felt oppressive by the students.
I'm really sorry you live where people are that entrenched. Only one of my friends (A PMC) was of the opinion that the mass shooting would be used to take guns away, and he's a bit of a nutter.
Well, the city nearest to me has been described as the "anarchist capital of the United States" (so claims wikipedia anyway), so I don't really expect a whole lot more. I mean, it's a mixed bag around here. I run into some cool mother fuckers and then I run into some crazy-ass tweakers who believe that the illuminati is poisoning our food and water supply.
So yeah I end up rolling my eyes a lot.
Cool, so instead of accountable police officers we'll be kept safe by vigilantes. That sounds like an awesome idea that will definitely not ever cause any problems.
vigilantes actively pursue crime, there's a difference and I think your just being ignorant of it on purpose
The guy called Ryan Lanza getting shat on by everybody because of media outlets not fact checking their shit again is disgusting... the suspect's first name isn't even Ryan, it's Adam... welp
It must really suck to be that guy, getting his facebook page published everywhere as "the guy who killed the children!" and he's powerless to do anything about it
From what I understand, this is because Adam took Ryan's license and shot up the place.

wow
That is fucking disgusting
Sad to see how stupid a lot of people are now a days. Considering the guy is still posting on facebook while the real killer shot himself.
he missed

That is very correct.
I find it really sad that we've come to this point that this kind of thing is actually being even discussed.
Oh how I still remember the time when you could go to school and be happy when you got to play with your friends.
Now you're happy that you lived to see another day.
Sickens me.

I wouldn't be surprised if a kid would want to steal a gun to play with it or something
You could easily fall into a routine and get distracted and hell, maybe a kid can sneak up behind him and take the gun from the holster or something.
And by the way, how does private security fare when compared to the police? You hear "rent-a-cop" a lot.

No, I'm not being sarcastic. A state where we are kept safe not by sane regulation but by the ever looming threat of immediate violent reprisal upon anyone who would intend to do wrong is most definitely the society I want to live in. Why bother passing laws and taking action to keep guns out of the hands of the criminally insane when we can just make sure to shoot them before they shoot us?

No, that's silly. Rentacops aren't armed. These guys will be more like PMC Contractors; paid to keep us safe by being everywhere, ready to shoot the bad guys at a moments notice.
This is slightly off topic but I just checked the Mass Effect page on Facebook...they're under a total assault. Many people are claiming that Bioware are just as responsible for the murder of those children as the gun.
I hate people.
I think it's unfair that the Mass Effect series recieved a lot of flak. It's hardly vulgar in comparison to other games out there.

private security and security guards are often armed.

Oh yeah, instead of preventing such things from happening we simply improve the killcount? C'mon you can't be serious. I know these people are the worst kind of guys you ever want to face but I think you don't have to shoot people over and over again. That's just treating the symptoms but not the origin of the problem!

I want to see how a kid steals a gun from the security guards belt.
Also, kids shouldn't "fall into routine" in this type of situations. Kids should be able to live in an somewhat innocent enviroment. If you make guns and security something that they're used to see always around them, then we've done something terribly wrong.
We're talking about one step above toddler level type of kids here for fuck sake.
Cool, so instead of accountable police officers we'll be kept safe by vigilantes. That sounds like an awesome idea that will definitely not ever cause any problems.
It doesn't, every state except Illinois, and even Illinois will have laws about it next year, have laws allowing citizens to concealed-carry firearms. It doesn't lead to more mass shootings, it doesn't lead to shootouts over fender-benders and parking spaces like the Brady Campaign tries to propagate, and actually the vast majority of mass shootings happen in gun-free zones, where people cannot carry their guns. It's also not vigilantism, it's citizens concerned about their self defence. A vigilante tries to take law and order into their own hands, they go out and try to be cops, a concealed-carry permit holder is concerned about their safety. They don't go looking for crime, they just want to be protected if crime comes to them. They're also not some kind of redneck idiot, in every state except Alaska, Wyoming, Vermont, and Arizona if you want to concealed-carry a gun, you have to undergo a course in the appropriate use of force and a test of your accuracy with your handgun.
There is a huge amount of misconception about CCW in the US, and it's often propagated by people who know noting of the matter and have done absolutely on research into the requirements for such permits, or the arguments in favour of them. Instead, they grossly misinterpret the point of CCW and the arguments by people in favour of it, as well as make up some sort of fictitious scenario that has as of yet never happened between CCW holders about a violent altercation between 2 permit holders over something trivial.

That's not new. They must feast upon the tragedies that happens to other people to forget their pain.
Great, some one does this, the knife thing in china, and some asshole set a garbage can on fire in my school today, its is fucking fuck anything up in a school day or something.
So some kid's being misblamed due to an incorrect name handed to the media, Mass Effect and Bioware are being blamed by soccer moms because of this misblamed kid, Jack Thompson promptly went 'Blood is on YOUR hands' towards the gaming industry with a kneejerk reaction, and now a pastor is saying God could've prevented it but god is not welcome in schools so fuck them all.
For fuck's sake, and this is only the first couple of hours of backlash. Considering this claimed more lives than Columbine and Aurora combined (albeit not beating the injured counts of either individually, probably), there's probably going to be even more kneejerk and misinformed actions, people blaming video games and further out-of-place gun debates and all-around-stupidity before all the facts come straight.
And even then someone out there will probably ignore the facts and try to use this massacre to push their own personal agenda like a complete asshole.
private security and security guards are often armed.
Now we just need to put them everywhere so they can watch over us with their big guns so they can the private citizens with their guns can keep us safe from those other people with their guns.
If everyone has guns then whenever anyone starts shooting a gun in a school they can get shot with a gun and then all of the shooting will stop when everyone knows that the guy who shot his gun has been safely disposed of by having been shot with a gun.

Well it was only until like 10-20 minutes ago that it was confirmed to be Adam not Ryan. The police never officially announced that it was Ryan as the shooter but Adam was carrying his brothers ID during the shooting so everyone assumed it was him.

as opposed to your fantasy idea of having the entire country take mental health tests?

I can imagine a chain of homicide that would happen in the event of confusion meeting vengeance.
You're in the mall, as a licensed concealed weapon carrier, when someone starts shooting. Another person starts shooting in an attempt to suppress the shooter, and your kid gets hit in the crossfire. Do you shoot the original shooter or the one that just put a lead slug through your kid's lung?
