It may have only served to protect him until he was satisfied with the shooting enough to take his own life. He may have intended to survive, but that is pretty rare in incidents such as these.

This is crazy. When the news came on they only said that it was another school shooting. I thought it was a student, but it being an elementary school is insane. I can't imagine rushing to see if my child was even alive.

I work for a K-8 school system. I expect this will trigger company-wide policy change. We already have lobby areas so people can't walk straight past the office and into a classroom, but I wouldn't be surprised if the executives come to the IT department looking for an additional protection method. My heart goes out to the families, I'm shaking just thinking about it. Also the House just passed a CCW law in Michigan that allows firearms in stadiums, schools, etc. This should get interesting.
