What about metro last light?
Metro and Stalker are very similar- both Metro 2033 and Stalker are based off Roadside Picnic, a book, and take place in post-nuclear worlds, with stalkers and mutants, but Metro takes place in an eery and clausterphobic depressing underground setting while Stalker is open-world in a mutated natural environment. 4A used to be part of GSC before splitting off before Stalker was created. The concepts and ideas are extremely similar, and a fan of Stalker would probably like Metro, but its a totally different gameplay experience.
Let us drink to him once more; he was a good studio [editline]9th December 2011[/editline]
;33643854']Metro and Stalker are very similar- both Metro 2033 and Stalker are based off Roadside Picnic, a book, and take place in post-nuclear worlds, with stalkers and mutants, but Metro takes place in an eery and clausterphobic depressing underground setting while Stalker is open-world in a mutated natural environment. 4A used to be part of GSC before splitting off before Stalker was created.
Metro 2033 is based off a book of the same name actually.
Rip S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
How unfortunate news. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was one of my favourite game series.
They sold 5 million how the fuck they could run into financial problems I refuse to believe this
I love the STALKER games. Today shall be a day of mourning.
This is one of those companies I think Piracy hurt a bit too much
STALKER is dead... we should all get STALKER avatars for memorial, no?
Much better goodbye song.
Haha, I get it. This is just all a big joke, a stupid trick to fool me and then laught at me, right? The game is really still being worked on, stop it already guys. This is all just a big joke, just a big stupid joke
Who'd have guessed the real world could be crueler than the zone itself...
Personally I remember GSC for Codename: Outbreak, I really liked this game.
I'm willing to bet this is some idiot with google translate fouling up with something completely unrelated, like the last time.
Stalkers don't die silly, they come back as zombies though In a way I'm glad the series ends here, as we all know most game series eventually get worse over releases, and if stalker ends here then so be it remembered as an awesome shooter and as a great story Thanks gsc, oh God the stalker thread must be dying
They made 3 games with 2 million that then profited them 5 million, this is just not happening. It is more than likely that the corrupt Ukrainan authorities trying to get their hands on the GSC's income, and control it's content. The CEO probably wanted to save stalker from such a fate.
I'm willing to be this is some idiot with google translate fouling up with something completely unrelated, like the last time.
The CEO officially confirmed it in a blog post.
The CEO officially confirmed it in a blog post.
Link please. My bro says the same, but I've not got him to cough up the link in question. Better yet, cough it up in SH so we can all see it.
Ive never played Stalker, I get scared of game dogs and similar creatures. In Skyrim I just zoom out into 3rd person, which I don't mind. Im not bothered by anything else though, whether it be big as fuck spiders or snakes. Ill have to man up and try it at Christmas.

Sell the rights (and existing content) of STALKER 2 to a competent Western game company, please? Do one last good thing before you go out, GSC. We'll miss you. :(
and then "we want the Call of Duty audience"
That's why I would prefer they choose a semi-indie company (a company like Frictional Games, though obviously it's not really their genre, since they do horror games) to do it. That way it won't become (or has less probability of becoming) a sell-out game, but will most likely be done (and done fairly well). The reason for the "Western company" is for the fact that Eastern European countries have a tendency to, well, flounder a bit. And sometimes suddenly disappear for no apparent reason. Like GSC just did.
Oh god why. I go outside for three hours to rake leaves off of the lawn and this happens. This is why I never go outside.

I remember playing it, somehow it was awesome, thanks for making me remember the name of the game.
I just got on the website which says nothing of it closing, and even Wikipedia hasn't been updated to say it closed yet (and it had the goddamn VT shooting up in about 2 hours!). Something smells fishy.

I was absolutely mortified when I heard about it on /v/ earlier today. Stalker was and will be one of my most favorite gaming series, alongside with Westwood. Seems like all my favorite companies have shut down. I have taken a sudden liking towards the COD games then!
What? Why must GSC of all companies close?
I never really played any of the STALKER games except for trying it out a bit, but this is horrible. Hope Grigorovich will come to his senses and open up the company again/that this is a lie.
