I hope that, if we do end up leaving, I get the chance to leave the country first.
Leaving the EU is one of very few things that would make me get out as quickly as possible.
The ECJ rules on European law, but European law supersedes British law.
That is the case, but in how many cases has EU law actually contradicted UK law (and therefore being supreme)? This is an honest question, apart from the recent plans to limit free movement I have not heard of any (serious) attempts to contradict (and therefore break the Treaty) EU regulations. I don't think its that much of an issue. If I am wrong about this (and I could well be, it could happen all the time but with no news), I welcome being corrected.
But anyway, most of the things that the EU passes are directives which are transposed into national law. The bodies of the EU which can pass regulations (which, are made up of elected officials) supposedly think very hard before forcing regulations upon citizens of the EU. The fact that you hear so much more about directives being passed instead of regulations to me speaks volumes about this.
I have to clarify on behalf of most Eurosceptics that no-one is against the economic benefits of the EU, numerous as they are, they are against the political integration of the EU. I personally don't hate the EU, it's a great trade block that does a lot of good for everyone involved but all I want is to keep my courts and my parliament the highest authority in my country. Why is that so unreasonable?
[sp]Pooling Sovereignty isn't an argument, it still gives another body more power than ours[/sp]
I don't see how they're any more 'your' courts than those in other parts of Europe. Surely you live in a city, or a borough, or some kind of other region that is not simply the UK, yet there are authorities above those that are not within your 'area'. How is a body in Brussels 'not yours' and yet a body in London (assuming you don't live in London) 'yours'? Is it just citizenship?
I think Europe would run better as a single government, and I think the world would run better as a single government.
That's what I think.
And I would kill myself before that happens.
You, and I, will probably both die before that happens.
and everyone will always feel separated and superior to others because of it. The world will never get any better as long as borders separate us.
For me its closer to paving the way for corruption and other ass hatery in scales we haven't seen before instead of the dancing in the field with flowers some here envision. It makes me sick and makes me hope my children and grandchildren etc don't have to see that day.
You don't think that's in any way an exaggeration?
You don't think that's in any way an exaggeration?
a total global superstate would be unprecidented - so "corruption and other ass hatery in scales we haven't seen before" seems likely
that being said, let's get back to the EU
the EU is amazing and i'm totally down with all the political integration that upsets mouse so much
