Pokemon X and Y lack 3D effect in overworld for better visuals - 3D will only be used during battle

pokemon is looking more like shit the more (actual) 3d they use
what happaned to pokemon ruby (and the likes), that art style beats the low resolution shit this looks like
I don't mind the 3D. I just find it annoying that if it is used it's used in every part of the game to the point of absurdity.
Ok and?
Nintendo has always been about the software and not the hardware.
They're going for the "theme of beauty" this time around and sacrificing 3D in favour of visuals. Having last-gen visuals really doesn't help their reasoning.

Low res as in texture, or screen res? I'm not seeing either.
If it's the latter, then of course a screenshot from a handheld game is going to look strange if you blow it up for PC screens.

yes texture, 2d it looks great, you know, Black and white moved to 3d graphics more so looks OK even with the lack of anti aliasing, we got smartphones that play games with such amazing graphics, when is nintendo updating the DS

Except you have textures horribly stretched across the screen
It's like a worse Doom
The textures look nice and crisp when they're at the right resolution from what I can tell. Only nagging thing is the obvious lack of anti-aliasing.
I don't know why people are acting like it's their first time using a computer or something. That's just what happens when you blow an image up three times what it's supposed to be.

Now, I gotta disagree there, since the best pokemon game (for virtue of not being basically the same as red/green and actually being innovative) is Coliseum.

Low resolution? What are you talking about?

I have no idea what you're talking about, but this is one of the best looking Pokemon games to date, at least for handhelds so far.
I really need to catch up on this series, I stopped playing after pokemon diamond, no reason, I just didn't get platinum, or anything following, and then I sold my DS lite.
The fourth generation was my favorite, the pokemon in generation 1 were kind of quantity over quality. There were a lot of great pokemon in the first generation still, but a lot of bad too.
Nintendo finally admitted that 3D is a flop when they released the 2DS, so this isn't surprising.
I find it funny that the whole 3D craze has now died twice.
Point of the 2DS
Zeke129
I hope some of you realize that what you see in screenshots vs what you'll actually be playing is going to look a lot different, mostly because you'll be holding the system like a feet or two away from you vs having one big screen in front of you.
Point of the 2DS
To get money from people who don't know that you can buy a used 3DS for the same price and turn off the 3D function?
To get money from people who don't know that you can buy a used 3DS for the same price and turn off the 3D function?
To be a cheaper and more durable handheld for children who could break the hinge if they drop it, or as a cheaper alternative to those who like the games and not the 3D?
(And it'll be brand new with a warranty, etc, where your used 3DS could be in worse shape.)
I don't know if you noticed at all, but the 3DS is a HUGE improvement from older handhelds such as the regular DS.

Really, you don't need high-end hardware to make a game look good or run good. The 3DS is fine.
That's fine and all but this is the competition for the same price of the XL

And Ocarina of Time 3D still looks better than these games.

When you play Vita games, you are impressed with how they look because they do look pretty sexy on that screen and run nicely.
When you play a 3DS you have fun.

Alright well you have tastes different than mine. I would rather enjoy a more mature library with AAA exclusives and AAA ports than *insert Mario rehash, latest generation of Pokemon games and Animal Crossing*

"I guess we have different tastes - hope you don't mind if I blatantly imply my tastes are superior".
Come on, now.

While OoT3D does have jaggies, the art style is still gorgeous, while the screenshots that were posted of Vita games look mediocre.

Both wipeout 2048 and killzone mercenary look fantastic when you're playing them. Smooth and with a good and consistent art style that is pleasing and well thought out.
I wouldn't have used it anyway; Really don't like the 3D on the 3DS. Irritates my eyes and drains my battery even faster. I don't see a point in using it.
I've seen the 3D used pretty well in games like Super Mario 3D Land where the 3D actually improved the experience, but for a game like this, I really doubt they could achieve that anyways.
And fuck the haters man, this is the Pokemon game I've been waiting to play since I had a copy of Red on Gameboy and Pokemon Stadium on the N64.
I still wish they would have used a higher res screen instead of a low res 3D screen. 400x240 is just too low for 3D games and in the age of full-hd phones.
sadly Nintendo thought the 3D scene at the time would take off (3DTV's at the time were "the future").
Also the 3DS came out during a transition period from semi-HD phones to full blown high pixel density monsters that make all monitors and TV's cry. Within a year the 3DS felt so technologically dated.
Why can't they produce a full 3D PC version in, say, the cry engine...
why don't they make VVVVVV in cryengine
why don't they make the next super mario in cryengine
why don't they make every game in cryengine
Because sometimes it's really not necessary to have it in the CryEngine, sometimes a game need an engine optimized specifically for the games needs.
