$800? I guess that's not bad, but I think I'll stick to upgrading my setup to triple-monitor korean panels for that price.
This is the kind of monitor I've been waiting for, now I'm hoping the color will actually be decent, no yellow whites or anything of the sort
In theory it will be a step up from their 1080p variants. I run the 24 inch one, and I'm satisfied, but it does have it's downsides. It's still a TN panel, so don't expect a miracle, and don't expect wide viewing angles. [editline]6th June 2014[/editline] 1440p or 4k 120+Hz IPS with 3D capacity would be the dream monitor for me right now, but the tech does not exist yet, and it would be well outside my price range.
That's not why 120hz has less/no tearing. otherwise running games at 30-40fps at 60hz wouldn't tear.
um wat, this is the exact reason why tearing happens also where did you ever get that games tear at 30 fps, it's impossible (unless the monitor is out of sync with the gpu, but that shouldn't happen by default) edit: i'm kind of waiting for an explanation why I am wrong
are there any 4k monitors with 60hz below 1 thousand bucks? I've been wanting to pick one up for a while now.
Call me when we have 1440p, 120hz and an IPS panel.
I can confirm this. I spent 5 minutes just moving Windows when I first got my 120hz screen.
It's like heroin though. After a while of moving things around at 120fps it starts to look jerky again and you need 144fps. Eventually you'll get used to that too, and you'll find yourself turning tricks to buy high speed cameras and shit
are there any 4k monitors with 60hz below 1 thousand bucks?
Jesus, that stand is revolting.
If only it were made by Corsair. Then we could change that ugly red ring to an ugly blue or white.
But I already have an Asus 1440p monitor (that I love)! Only at 60hz though.
I have an Asus VG248QE, got it for cheap and the 144hz is awesome, even for daily desktop use. Though it is TN so don't expect superb colors. Default color settings result in colors WAY too much washed out, I had to fiddle with settings and color profiles for two whole days to get it to feel right.
I agree with most things you said there except for the 144hz part. The 144hz is shit, the monitor performs far better with the lightboost hack in 120hz.
But is it a TN or an IPS panel? IPS 4 lyfe.
But is it a TN or an IPS panel? IPS 4 lyfe.
It's TN, it's very rare that you'd see an IPS gaming monitor, if ever. (At least for a low response time)
I don't get the whole IPS craze. I don't find the colors terribly noticeable, and all I do is look at the screen head on. I could survive with a tiny ass viewing angle.
When can we get OLED monitors?
it's not for gaming I just want more screen real estate than my current monitor (2560x1080) provides
If you just want more real estate, then this isn't for you, simply put.
Asus, Samsung, AOC and Dell have 28" 4K TN monitors for around £500 dell also do a 24" IPS 4k monitor for about £700 [editline]6th June 2014[/editline] tbh i dont think its really worth it at this time for gaming unless you already have or were planning to buy multiple gpu's, 90% of games dont have that good texture quality and its a bitch to run games even at 1440p never mind 2160p
I thought the dell one was also TN.
I don't get the whole IPS craze. I don't find the colors terribly noticeable, and all I do is look at the screen head on. The main advantage of TN is super low lag. LPS and IPS tend to have much better color and support better transitioning, which is rather important if you do art or need exact image quality to deliver something 1:1 to a client or employer.
I don't get the whole IPS craze. I don't find the colors terribly noticeable, and all I do is look at the screen head on. I could survive with a tiny ass viewing angle.
It all depends on your eyes. It varies from one person to another, and you can learn to notice the differences if someone walks you through them. The IPS panels are quite a lot better when it comes to colors and color accuracy. From what i've seen they've usually got more even backlighting as well.
This might be great for normal desktop usage.
It's TN, it's very rare that you'd see an IPS gaming monitor, if ever. (At least for a low response time)
Dell IPS Ultras in 27" 30" and 24" have 6ms, and have had them for years.
Yeah that awesome or whatever but dell has had these for a year minus gsync and so has Vizio and Eizo and BenQ, what the fuck is so special about the Asus version.
I didn't know about those first couple of monitors that you mentioned because they weren't sold here in Canada yet (at least not at Canada Computers). The main reason there's hype for this is probably because it's the successor to the ever so hot VG248QE, albeit at a much higher price. [editline]6th June 2014[/editline]
Dell IPS Ultras in 27" 30" and 24" have 6ms, and have had them for years.
6ms isn't a low response time.
I thought the dell one was also TN.
UP2414Q is IPS, P2815Q is TN
I don't get the whole IPS craze. I don't find the colors terribly noticeable, and all I do is look at the screen head on. I could survive with a tiny ass viewing angle.
If you're an autistic perfectionist like me the difference is massive. It's like moving from black and white to color, everything is just so vibrant and (provided it's calibrated correctly) accurate. In some cases you'll see subtle colors and gradients that won't even register on a TN screen. [editline]6th June 2014[/editline]
6ms isn't a low response time.
Below 8ms there might as well not be a difference. I've used 1ms monitors, I swear it's a placebo effect.
Can somebody elaborate the difference between 60hz and 120hz?
Especially with LightBoost(Nvidia only, sorry AMD guys) it's fantastic. Blur gets cut right down and everything is much smoother. I actually have a 144hz monitor, but i can't run many games at 144fps, so i go for 120. Luckily 120 with LightBoost is about as smooth as 144 without LightBoost.
I feel like my 1080p 60hz S-PVA "monitor" is already getting outdated.
Below 8ms there might as well not be a difference. I've used 1ms monitors, I swear it's a placebo effect.
That's because the 1-2ms response times on those monitors is for gray to white then back to gray. Real response time for most monitors with that bullshit marketing ploy is about 5-7ms.
If you just want more real estate, then this isn't for you, simply put.
how would a 4k monitor not provide more space to do stuff with?
how would a 4k monitor not provide more space to do stuff with?
With things like 24" 4K monitors they are often ran with the same real estate as a standard 1920x1200 display, just with a higher pixel density, like a retina display. Running 4K at 24" would be unpleasant to me, far to small for my tastes. I'd rather have a 4K display at around 36".
