I'll answer this question with a question of my own.
I don't know, why the fuck is Twilight so popular?
Same reason as The Fault in our Stars- hormonal teenage girls who want to "totes n3rdy <3" by reading flavour-of-the-year literature

I thought the supposed audience for 50 Shades was largely middle aged women, as opposed to teenagers
I still can't believe a mediocre Twilight fanfiction with its names replaced became a best-selling book and movie.
It's ok it'll go away before long and the next fad'll be something even more idiotic.
The main reason why its terrible isn't because they freely show an bdsm relationship, its because it shows everything you don't do in one. The whole sexual relationship with bdsm is based around trust, which the dude breaks constantly. You also do aftercare which again he doesn't do. Its an extremely unhealthy relationship that is bad for teen girls to fantasize about.
Shit apparently one part of the book the dude plants an gps tracker on her purse or something to follow her.

They are obviously talking about all the wrong issues tho so their point in particular is wrong.
I'll take your word for it.
Actually, I'm not surprised, I bet loads of women have fantasies about being 'raped' by Edward Cullen.
Well, for a starters there's a lack of safewords. BDSM's primary concern point for all parties is safety. Pro-dominants absolutely obsess over the safety of all parties constantly, and it's one of the biggest aspects of the fetish when done in practice. It's used as a joke a lot in mainstream comedy nowadays, but it's honestly absolutely crucial.

In BDSM, the one being dominated has the most power. In this movie, well, I hope we're not gonna see deaths because someone tried to re-enact the scenes.

Is this basically the same as fighting against air?
I thought the supposed audience for 50 Shades was largely middle aged women, as opposed to teenagers
It's because that's the target audience that gets a lot more from "depraved sexuality" than a teenager figuring out what having sex is.
whenever someone mentions the 50 shades of gray movie to me:

I'm baffled as to why people are offended a character in a work of fiction doesn't play it safe and follow the rules for whatever you think a proper BDSM relationship is.
What a boring book to read if no characters were flawed.
Edit:
Because BDSM is shown as taboo, if you paint it as some fucking shitty obsessive, abusive, dangerous thing it will make it even more taboo (when its actually more common than you think).
Exactly why this is not a guide to healthy BDSM relationships and why this movie is not a documentary on the lifestyle. It is a work of fiction with characters who have flaws that create an interesting story. To miss that is to miss the point of literature and film entirely.
The article and this group are absurd, yes, but it is also absurd to expect safe, healthy characters in fiction.

Dunno, I thought the trailer was pretty hot when things started getting kinky. I never read the book.

The organisation is stupid but they actually have a good point this time (even if they're going after it for the wrong reasons)

What, demanding that nobody depicts dangerous behavior in media? Seems like they're encouraging pointless censorship to me.

PETA actually protests against inhumane things? I thought they only tried to link things to autism.

Some girls are happy just to finger blast when they're alone, but I can't get off without having an antique doorknob in my cod crater and a barbie doll up my shit winker. I can't wait to consume the love piss from his womb ferret. If I don't flick the bean to get my shrimp sap slobbering from my split peach, his pink tractor beam is going to leave my meaty hangers resembling a blind cobbler's thumb. By now, my cod canyon was sliming like a hungry pig at a trough. The mixture of footlong fudge bullet and penis pudding in my brown mile created the delicious porthole pudding that he was so fond of.
How gross
To be fair I read the plot summary and the book is dumb. Why do so many women love it?
Because middle aged housewives haven't heard of free porn fictions on the internet yet.

So no, this isn't trying to censor something because it's dangerous (Which BDSM isn't when done correctly), it's because they romanticise abusive relationships, which are fucking terrible

Yeah my aunties marriage counselor apparently said he didn't like it due to this since it could convince some women that some abusive behavior within relationships is the norm.

Because BDSM can be misunderstood as is. I don't think the common opinion of it is clear enough for a misrepresentation of it to be featured in such a popular film/novel.

What are you talking about? Who cares? Its a fictional book, its goal is to entertain and tell a story.
Do we need to start strictly censoring all of our literary works because god forbid someone interprets them as factual accounts of reality? That's a strawman argument that sets up a reader who can't distinguish fiction and reality. When in reality people just want to read an interesting story, not learn the ins and outs of a successful and safe BDSM relationship. That's bad writing to have zero conflict.
You know the depiction of BDSM in 50 Shades is actually disturbingly inaccurate and glaringly unsafe at times. Some of the things within it are borderline rape.
Most of the consent is established post-act (if at all), and no boundaries are ever agreed before hand.
It's basically not at all like how BDSM is practised amongst the actual community for it, and it is far more like abuse given a shiny coat of paint.
