UK's quality of life worse than those of Ex-Soviet Bloc countries.

It's funny because a lot of former party functionaries in the RSFSR are now the oligarchs and statesmen.
both post-socialist states demonize the socialism that existed before, so it's not propaganda. fondness for both the GDR and the USSR comes from mainly the fact that they were worker oriented and life had less worries, along with the culture that came with it.
but when a majority of people in these former socialist countries have a positive view of their past, and it's their former enemies that propagate a negative view, who really is espousing propaganda?
I dunno probably the regime that is famous for espousing propaganda.
(You're a fucking idiot)

Full rankings with details 'n shit. The only really bad rankings the UK gets are Cost of Living, Economy and Environment.
Lol how does the United States have a 92 for "Freedom?"

I couldn't care less of who is famous for what, as that is more or less tied into politics anyway (a notable example being how we're famous for being a beacon of freedom of democracy, when we hardly are). And do you honestly think we haven't espoused more then our share of propaganda? We were in a 60 year war of ideals, after all.
Lol how does the United States have a 92 for "Freedom?"
I would guess probably because of national security measures since 9/11 or opposing things such as gay marriage.

death to liberty and the freedom loving pig dog capitalists
that list is extremely outdated, I mean it looks like it was made 100 years ago only with Britain not being in the top 5. Where are South Korea and Japan? Is this only Europe? Oh wait USA is there.
Spiegal.de is staunchly anti-communist and anti-left and follows the same western dogma that existed during the cold war
that map was done by the government
I don't believe the former east germany is a grey depressed area, I'm saying that it has its own social problems largely stemming from re-integration that cause a majority of its people to look back on a system and a society that didn't have such problems.
If east germany was absolutely a poor depressed area then there would have been a revolution by now. Clearly that's not the case. Rather, the way capitalism works is causing east germans to compare socialism to it on a personal level. I would say it has more to do with adjusting to capitalism then east germany being poor and depressed, but that's not to say the latter does not exist or is a small problem.
You are right with this(except the revolution, that's a bit overdone)
I'm born in GDR, but I was just 3 years old when the wall fell so I don't have experiences with it.
There are still quite some problems with fitting the 50+ generation into the modern work-society.
Many problems we have right now, like the lack of industry and the high workless rates. However, these are not a direct consequence of the system changes itself but rather the abruptness of it.
YOu can't imagine the terrible confusion that happened right after 1990. Western industry bought us out like there was no tommorow because the state that owned most of the GDR industry didn't exist anymore.
And unlike Eastern Germany, the Western part was not stripped of everything after WW2. My Grandpa can tell you stories of the Russians deporting most of our train rails after WW2, just an example.
A further problem is the mentality. In GDR, you were guaranteed a job after school and A LOT of money was investd in schools in the GDR. Classes were not bigger than 15 persons and higher education was guaranteed for everyone who was willing to take it.
My mom got money from the state for going to the Gymnasium(the optional 11th and 12th grade in school that enable you to go to a University)
Today, statistics show that kids from poorer families are less likely to get a higher education. My Grandma was a teacher ad I can tell you, if you were smart enough, you got money from the state.
So that was quite a shock too.
Furthermore, the GDR industry was oriented to the Soviet block.
What this means is that certain countries in the Soviet block were the main producers of certain goods.
Specialsation itself is a pretty good concept, but only if you are guaranteed to have someone who buys your stuff. In a systemwide organization, that is no problem. But after the fall of the soviet block, this guarantee vanished as the government organization dissapeared.
GDR indistry was the chemistry. Traditionally inherited from the Industrialisation.
The big problem after that: We were not able to withstand the strong international competition of the capitalistic system.
I could go on and on and on but I think these few examples should give you a rough idea of why in the minds of many people here, the "old times " where better.
It's natural.
Fuck yeah were #7, where's your bandwagon now? Now let this end the fucking US hate bandwagon and pray a UK hate bandwagon doesn't start. (I personally do like the UK for a few reasons but its not much different to some cities in the US.)
they're not problems for me. they don't affect me, so they can remain shit for all i care.
Your area is shit. I hope a bunch of chavs come round the corner and throw bricks and eggs at your council house.
