I'm assuming the sentiment is directed more at their downright toxic communities moreso than the actual games, though I can't say I'm a fan of the games themselves either. They involve too much metagaming for my tastes.
at least it's being externally developed and won't cost CDPR time or resources that would have gone to The Witcher 3 or Cyberpunk 2077 (dear god I can't wait for that game)

It isn't a phenomena unique to video games, every industry is filled with "me toos" who follow whatever the big thing happens to be. In the video game industry though it just appears far more apparent because the barrier of entry is low compared to other sectors.

My friend wants me to play LoL with him and I hate it.
I sat there with him showing me how to play and I didn't enjoy it at all, and he says "Yeah it's not too good like this but you could imagine it might be pretty fun playing competitively with friends"

Companies jump onto bandwagons because they're easy to milk money from. If the average consumer is interested by a certain bandwagon, they're going to need someone to milk their wallets.
It's funny how, despite how many ripoffs have been developed and released, nobody has yet to even touch DotA in gameplay depth and polish, except for Dota 2 of course but that hardly counts considering it's essentially the same game.
Thing is, Dota had years upon years upon years of revision, remaking, tweaking and polishing, I honestly doubt any other game within the genre is ever going to get near it in terms of mechanics and gameplay.

A lot of people in this thread say that all Mobas are terrible. I don't think that at all, some of the games are fucking great, it's the communities that are garbage. I stopped playing dota simply because 99% of them games you are paired with people who are complete assbags.
That being said there really, [b]really[/b] doesn't need to be another moba. This announcement really shows that originality in videogames is in a massive decline.
