There is a setting to turn off the xbox off portion. Maybe not on the dev builds but with the final version.
I hope they also include a confirmation box.
then they disable just the voice commands
Knowing retail stores, they probably won't and won't care. I was muting the TV with my tablet and raising the volume while people were playing on the demostration units, I even turned it off.
Your mom is gonna be pretty happy with kinect. She doesn't even have to make you turn the xbox off.
They made the kinect optional if I remember correctly. I don't expect too many kids having their kinect hooked up after that many mothers turning it off.
Reminds me of my neighbor's smart tv. There's a thin wall between us, so I can just shout 'SMART TV. VOLUME MAXIMUM' and hear his speakers explode. Too bad he turned the reception volume down. Now it doesn't work any more. :(
That's ridiculously hilarious
That's really shitty on Microsoft. Somebody in a matchmaking lobby could just yell Xbox off and shut everyone down.
This is fucking gold. I'm fairly sure they'll add some confirmation thingy, but it would still interrupt someone while they are playing something, which still is hilarious as fuck.
Wait, this actually works?
I'm calling this right now. This is going to be used as game tester/QA hazing.
You mean besides just disabling the kinect?
but then the NSA can't spy on you for your safety...
but then the NSA can't spy on you for your safety...
But then Microsoft can't sell the NSA the ability to spy on you... For your safety*
You can actually turn the voice commands off.
Hang on, in a few years when everyone and their moms are playing CoD 24 on the Xbone, couldn't one of the players just yell "XBOX OFF" to empty the server? Did Microsoft think about this feature in the slightest?
It would turn your Xbox off before it got sent over the network.
if they do add a confirmation, I hope it's voice-controlled too.
if they do add a confirmation, I hope it's voice-controlled too.
then it would be redundant trying to stop people from turning it off to fuck with the player "XBOX OFF" "Are you sure" "YES HAHAHHAHA"
then it would be redundant trying to stop people from turning it off to fuck with the player "XBOX OFF" "Are you sure" "YES HAHAHHAHA"
Even with a prompt it's still going to be a problem, you're in a firefight and someone screams "XBOX OFF" just as you are about to shoot only to have you die because you now have a prompt blocking your screen and controls until you pick an option.
As far as the fear of people shouting "XBOX OFF" at the Kinect over multiplayer games, it wouldn't be that hard to perform filtering on the sound the Xbox itself is actually emitting (all game sound including voice chat) out of the Kinect's audio stream. In fact, I kind of expect it to already be doing that, since otherwise the game itself could mess with you if Kinect made a fuzzy guess on speech recognition in Halo 17 or whatever. Wait, it's a Microsoft product. What the fuck am I thinking? That's too sensible. Better wear headphones for online multiplayer if there's voice chat, there's gonna be a lot of this.
The easiest solution would be to simply need to press a button while speaking a voice command. Of course, it's not like the boys over at Microsoft have any brains to think that one through.
It would turn your Xbox off before it got sent over the network.
Use a wireless headset and yell it from another room.
Use a wireless headset and yell it from another room.
or turn off commands for your xbox
See an xbox one game being played though an open window? You know what to do
The You Know What To Do part got me. Of course this option is going to be optional and most people will turn it off. But there's always people who only know where the power button is and that lights turning on means it works
I did not even know Insomniac Games was making a Xbox One game, but sure enough they are. I wonder how it will turn out, I have always enjoyed Insomniac's games.
I'm honestly surprised so few people know that Insomniac is making an Xbone game, considering Sunset Overdrive was the only interesting game they demo'd at E3. I mean sure Dead Rising 3 is looking better now too, but back then everybody thought it was going to ditch its identity for a more serious approach to open-world zombie survival.
The people doing this need to understand that is is bothering the dev so much he can't sleep
