Where would it ever be possible to get attacked in such a way anyway?
Most sites uses a restriction on amount of times a password attempt can be tried with stuff like captcha.
And other sites have other means of protection (like steam guard).

Only low quality sites if any sites would allow something to attempt to enter a password to a account 1000 times a second.

you'd have to run through a looooooong list of words

that list would be longer than the list of allowed characters in a password (unicode i think) which is why words would actually be more secure if you've got 4 or 5 of them
