Why is everyone so obsessed with the idea of taxing drugs? We shouldn't be begging the state to let us take drugs by promising them we'll pay.. we shouldn't be letting them enforce such a disgusting parental law in the first place.
I don't think you go to rehab for weed, more for harder drugs, could be wrong though.
Some people may get hooked on weed depending on their mental state, but not physically.
Branson has been coming out with some great points and ideas recently. Good guy.
I dunno. Maybe I'm dumb but at least here in Ontario as a comparison practically 50% of alcohols cost is taxes. Do I really want the price of my weed to double? No not really. Same idea with tobacco
erm you realise weed is expensive because it's illegal, large farms could sell ok weed for pennies per ounce [editline]25th January 2012[/editline]
lol its every dealer around here though, sure the weed is on par with the stuff you get in amsterdam but the weights are so fucking shit. You're lucky to get 1.6 for £20 around here and anything above 1.8 is considered to be a luxury
only cos you pay it, for some reason this has become acceptable to the younger generation. now i don't smoke but my younger friends get ripped off like you buying SUPR LEMON HAAZZEE FROM MANCHESTAAAHH but the older ones still pay £15 for 3.5-4g good quality bud. refuse to pay, that's the only solution.

A giant portion of their costs are taxes and if weed ends up being the same that'll be shitty.
I've been saying this for years. Not only will it have health benefits due to regulated drugs and not cheap shit, it will also minimise drug-related violence and keep our prison systems less full.
Tobacco is legal but look how damn expensive cigs are. A giant portion of their costs are taxes and if weed ends up being the same that'll be shitty.
I think the beauty of this is that you could legalize it and people could grow it in their own home, i think my dad once said "Why do you think a large amount of people get hydroponics or have a small hobby of it, it's certainly not for vegetables and the like."
Should be legal to the extent of alcohol, as can't do it outside
It would also mean that weed would be regulated, so you'd always be getting good stuff... or average stuff anyway, I'm not sure how they'd stand on stickyicky super skunk.
Should be legal to the extent of alcohol, as can't do it outside
Weed is best enjoyed outside. Medical patients can drive with no problem so it'd be a stupid law to not even be able to walk around while smoking.
The large price of marijuana derives from the costs of smuggling it and the inherent legal and physical danger associated with its distribution under prohibition. Should Marijuana be legalized it would prove cheaper than tobacco due to its multi-climate adaptability. Just about everyone but an Eskimo or a desert-dweller could grow it That is to say it is easier to grow because it is less picky about climate than tobacco is.

I heard about this on radio 4, apparently Branson said "Anyone who works for Virgin that's found doing drugs won't be fired automatically". I don't do drugs, but if I did, I know where I'd be working.
weed in england is already expensive as hell, people round here have started selling grams for £20 and i highly doubt the government will put the price that steep
You need a new dealer. I can get 3.5g for £20 on a good day, 2.5 as standard. Ussually lemon chicken but got sour diesel earlier this week
It makes me sad that we still have many, many years to come until the governments grow up enough to accept they are wrong in front of people and actually stop being cunts about the 'Hurr war on drugs they KILL BABIES'. I can't even begin to understand why and how they got so ridiculously anti and against them in the first place. Its stupid.
Long story short, paper companies flipped the fuck out because if they made hemp paper than it would be cheaper than regular paper so they made a big disinformation campaign and got it illegalized.
More like racism, the victory doctors had over chemists (no more going down to the shops to pick up a bottle of heroin and radon, need a prescription for that!), the temperance movement and some other factors [editline]29th January 2012[/editline]
I'll happily pay double for the convenience of being able to walk into a store and put weed on my debit card
It wouldn't be double considering how cheap industrial scale cannabis harvesting could potentially be.
It wouldn't be double considering how cheap industrial scale cannabis harvesting could potentially be.
It probably would be due to tax, and because people here in Australia are dumb enough to pay double.
It probably would be due to tax, and because people here in Australia are dumb enough to pay double.
What? how are you even working that out? Forget the current prices. Go down to a supermarket, and see how much a kilo of say, carrots or corn or whatever costs. Even at the very cheap price of $5 per gram, that's $5000 for a bloody kilo, as opposed to a couple of dollars. Even with cigarettes in Australia, where they are taxed more than pretty much everywhere, you're at the $1-2 mark for a gram of tobacco in factory rolled casings shipped from overseas.
Why are people complaining about the price going up? The reason it's expensive as it is now is that it's illegal, obviously. If it's legalised it would probably be cheaper than now, even with excessive taxing
weed in england is already expensive as hell, people round here have started selling grams for £20 and i highly doubt the government will put the price that steep
Jeeze lad you're getting ripped off propper.
I'm sure if it was legalized, taxed and sold in stores, you could still get it from dealers for less money.
Richard Branson is arrogant.
Richard Branson is arrogant.
arrogance vs cannabis legalisation
anyone paying more than 30-35$/19-22£ for 3.5 grams is being ripped off, just sayin
Richard Branson is arrogant.
and you're a shit poster

The government will tax it a ridiculous amount because they know people will pay it. They can sell for >$20 a gram because PEOPLE WILL PAY FOR IT.
You're not understanding. The government will tax it a ridiculous amount because they know people will pay it. What makes it hard for them to be able to tax it at that level is how easy it is to grow once you're not in prohibition.

You know growing tobacco is illegal in australia?
Knowing the government, they'll probably make growing weed illegal, in order to make sure they can charge ridiculous prices. Growing tobacco as far as I know is quite a hard practice.
